According to various news websites these are some of the names who didn't make the cut:

Michele Bravi
Arisa
Marcella Bella
Al Bano
Patty Pravo
Zero Assoluto
Ermal Meta
Jalisse
Francesco Gabbani
Alexia
Malika Ayane
Bresh
Fabrizio Moro

Jalisse like every year, so the conspiracy theory is going on. Who knows what happened with RAI in 1997 and if it's true that RAI backstabbed them at Eurovision.

Russell Crowe confirmed as guest, will sing.
No kidding
To this day I still don't understand the need for these Sanremo-unrelated people to be on stage, with 15 to 30 songs to be performed by artists that attract viewers just with their names... These celebrities might have been needed in 2004 when you looked at the line-up in a boycott year but now...

That is a mystery indeed. Every now and then there are rumours about the winning song being preselected, well it was certainly not the case in 1997, given how much hostility Jalisse got from the broadcaster, displeased with their win over big names such as Patty Pravo or (then) rising stars such as Nek. I can imagine how terrified Rai had to be when Fiumi di parole was faring so well in ESC that year, prompting them to withdraw the following year to avoid the ESC menace altogether.

I think the songs they submit to Sanremo are just really bad. There was a lot of speculation about Amadeus calling them back this year for "finally closing the circle", but in the end they didn't make the cut.

In fact, Musica (E il resto scompare) by Lamborghini was a difficult opponent to overcome in 2020. I believe that the two singers are disliked by RAI because they have repeatedly shouted about a conspiracy.

I don't think there is a conspiracy against Jalisse. Rai's policy changes often, the directors too. Amadeus is very professional and I think his choices are done exclusively based on his own taste and idea. Maybe Jalisse's music is simply outdated

Elettra would always have been in Sanremo in 2020, because she had great numbers the year prior... Her choice was a no brainer at that time.

It's looking good for Alessandra Amoroso in these days. She is the most talked about singer of the competition, she's gone viral on TikTok with her 2016 song "Stupendo fino a qui" and people are now looking at her with praise and positivity. There are also lots of memes comparing Alessandra's comeback with Taylor Swift's Reputation Era. I think she should take advice from this and, if she hasn't chosen yet, select a song from Reputation for the cover evening: Swifties would go mad and give her lots of votes.

She's the frontrunner in odds, now

This year the voting system has changed a bit so I won't be that sure about Alessandra winning. With the elimination of the demoscopic jury 66% of the votes are on the hands of that big amount of journalists, experts or radio/tv/web operators. Alessandra lacks a bit of contemporary, she is an excellent artist but her music is somehow old-stylish. I'm not sure the composed expert juries will vote for her. On the other hand she has the favor of the public. Her tours in the Italian arenas have been always sold out. Ultimo"s example last year showed to us that the public vote, he has a huge fanbase, can push you into top 5 but isn't enough for a win.
I have the feeling she will get an Elisa result.
Obviously all these considerations are done without listening the songs.

A. Amoroso's songs (I only know a few though) lack of freshness and are as @nudiecrudi said a bit old-fashioned and not contemporary enough. But I am really looking forward to get to know new Italian musicians again as every year watching Sanremo. ❤️

Without knowing the songs it is difficult to understand what will happen in February. We await the opinion of the journalists who will listen to the songs around mid-January. However, many of them comment incorrectly or do not reveal much about the song, as if our ears and theirs had heard two different things.

I don't know who could win but for the Top10 I would more or less easily see: Geolier, Alessandra Amoroso, Annalisa, Mahmood, Irama, Il Volo, Ghali, Emma, The Kolors, Fiorella Mannoia/Diodato/Angelina/Negramaro.
Of course there could be surprises with the lesser-known names.

Juries could push a lot Fiorella Mannoia, Diodato or Negramaro if they manage to reach top 5.
With this year's voting system, who's kinda the same as the last three editions, Press and Radio will not have any significative power (because they judge with numeral votes instead of "tokens", resulting in very narrow percentage difference between all the songs), basically giving the televoting all the power to decide the five songs to send into top 5.
In top 5, however, Press and Radio will vote with tokens, and they might actually decide a sole winner if they are willing to.
I think this year the singers with the most televoting will be Il Volo, Geolier and Alessandra Amoroso. I think, if they have good songs liked by the audience, they might be lock-outs in the top 5. Il Volo, however, are really disliked by the Press

I think it will be a very open edition, I can't see a clear favourite out of these artists, it's almost unpredictable. Hoping the songs will be high quality as are the names in it. 2024 has the possibility to dethrone Sanremo 1997 from the best Sanremo ever (at least imho... And yes 1997 was the year both Sanremo and Eurovision peaked. If you didn't listen to those songs, I recommend you to give them a listen, even from the newcomers of that particular year: to give some hints the total gems were "Secolo Crudele" by DocRock, "Padre Nostro" by O.R.O., "E dimmi che non vuoi morire" by Patty Pravo, "Sei tu" by Syria, "Nel respiro piú grande" by Tosca, "Confusa e Felice" by Carmen Consoli, "Cambiare" by Alex Baroni, the hits were "Laura non c'è" by Nek, "Capelli" by Niccolò Fabi, "Papa Nero" by Pitura Freska, "Amici come Prima" by Paola e Chiara, "A casa di Luca" by Silvia Salemi. All those songs were remarkable and still remembered today). The analogies are there: that year we had 29 singers in the Big category, this year we will have 30, so a large number, and an almost even mix of newcomers and all-stars. Let's hope the songs have the same quality.

Bernadette, Sanremo Giovani starts tomorrow, then all the artists will reveal the titles of their songs and by the meddle of January the press will listen once all the songs. The day later will have all the reviews and votes given by the critics and journalists. So after that we'll have an idea who are the real favourites.

Finally managed to listen to the Sanremo Giovani songs - many wonderful newcomers as always! My favorite songs are:

SANTI FRANCESI – Occhi tristi
Nausica – Favole
Fellow – Alieno

Grenbaud – Mama

I especially hope that the first two will make it to Sanremo! Especially "Occhi tristi" wold make it on to the top of my list!
Since I will watch FiK tonight, I will rewatch SG later tomorrow. But I wish all the newcomers best of luck!

For people to listen to this beautiful song:
