Italy really do send quality every year. I think "Soldi" is a bit like "Non mi avete fatto niente" in that it didn't grab me right away but after a few listens, it's shooting right to my top. Reminds me a lot of Stromae which certainly isn't a bad thing. I don't know if Italy will ever send a bad entry again :D

Question for all you Italians:

Within Italy itself, was Mahmood considered an outsider to win Sanremo? Did anyone expect it, even coming up to the final night? I'm just wondering because the odds (even though they usually mean nothing) had him at 50/1 (so a big outsider) even up to the final night itself.

I'm in love with everything about this song. I liked it from the first listen, and I've been listening to it some 20 times a day since then. :D When I'm not listening to it, I'm singing it. Mostly in giberish, but singing it. :D I have yet to learn all the lyrics. :D

I think the song will do great in Eurovision. It's my favourite song so far and it will be hard to take it off that throne. I really enjoy songs of this type. I am so happy for Mahmood, as if he was representing my country. I've never been this genuinely happy about someone's win. It's significant for so many reasons. Ultimo's song was good, but boring-ish. Not memorable enough. I'm struggling to remember the chorus at this very moment. Every time he came on stage and started singing the chorus, I was thinking: "oh right, that's what that song sounds like." Besides that, he bashed the reporters and the jury after the final, that was very unprofessional and childish. If you don't know how to lose, you don't deserve to win.

Mahmood has great lyrics, great production and arrangement, and he delivers the song with great confidence. I love the moves and the sharp look he gives to the camera. And you just can't help but remember at least that "soldiiii, soldiiii" part. And the fact that he was so modest, humble after they announced his victory makes him a winner in every sense of that word.

P.S. The reason for low public vote, I believe, is current Italian political climate. It's has nothing to do with the song itself. Large majority of the negative comments are attacking the artist and what he is, which is really sad. And that is also the reason for that great difference in the jury and the public vote.

I can understand if the italian public isn't very satisfied with the results. The televoters only gave Mahmood 14%. That is ridiculously low for an entry that ended up as Italy's representative in TLV. But the juries were really clear; no doubt about who they wanted as a winner.
Luckily I agree with the juries in this case.

Italy is never among my favorites and won't be now either. It might grow on me somewhat, and the live performance is a lot better than the studio version, but it's just another Italian song i simply don't get, and not just because of the lyrics. Smart choice though - they got the mideast and the elderly vote at once, though there will surely be competitors....

Best song so far by far. Juries got it right this time and I am quite surprised he got such a low score from the televote. This will be much better in Tel Aviv, orchestra doesn't suit this song well - studio version is much better and will work in its favour.

I actually think you might be right! This might sound better without orchestra actually. I agree that the studioversion is definitely better than his live performanes.

We got the first true favorite on the esc of 2019

Strong, original, authentic, powerful in every aspect !!!

Top 5 placements, quite sure, and one of the main competitors for the victory

The song is excellent when it is first heard. That's exactly what's expected.

Italy did not make sure, they have secured the top of the table and a potential win.

I think no one actually considered him a possible winner even when he was in the top 3 (I was so SHOCKED when it happened). So yeah, the most surprising result EVER.

Anyway. My fave since day 1. And my fave Italian entry ever (sorry Gabbani, I love you anyway xheart). Proud of you MAHMOOD.

with the televote, it won't! viewers will get to listen to it only once before voting for :it: or another country. only the juries can save it from ending up very low.

Re: ITALY 2019

Well, thanks to the juries for rewarding this song as it should haven been by the televote. Seriously, I don't know what the Italian people were thinking. It is so good - and it is even better in the studio version. I love the bridge with the arabic lyrics.
Easily the best entry so far - and it will surely remain on top once all the songs are revealed. Possibly my favourite Italian entry since their return. Well done, Italy ! 12 points.
