Do any of you Italians have any rumours or info?

No news. There are not even rumors about Sanremo's next contestants.

I have a feeling the ESC selection wont be at San Remo,,or we will get a returning artist that will give the game away.Last years big 14 was the highest quality iv ever seen. Can they top it this year?
So many superb artists to choose from for Italy.
The only problem for ESC for Italy is their artists and songs tend to be very classy, but don't quite contain enough cliché hooks to get enough votes to win.

That's why Italy need to send their most contemporary artist with a superb song. One who can connect with televoters everywhere and juries.

Plenty to choose from that's for sure.

Italy is bound to win in the next 10 years, at least once.

Might happen if they send something that feels a tad 'fresher' than their previous 21st century entries. These were far from bad but I guess slightly too conservative for Europe. I wish they would go with folk or electro one year; the problem is that San Remo Festival allows only a meagre scope of musical genres.

It's been working for them though. Top ten every single year. It just need to be a bit better.

Nina an Marco had the most classy songs but they weren't staged right. Not far wrong but they missed out on selling the songs better.

I agree San Remo isn't ideal for selecting. Its the best quality festival in Europe but maybe not for selecting ESC songs.

That's why I think maybe this year they might not select from San Remo.Italy in my opinion have the best artists in Europe at the moment ,so with the right song could easily win ESC again.

There is no rush to win. Building up the tv ratings is the top priority. And, since Sanremo is the most viewed show on italian tv every year, I doubt that severing the link with Eurovision would do the latter any good.
When the Eurovision will have big ratings, making a melodifestivalen-type contest could be the ideal to pick the best entry, but right now I doubt that RAI would invest any time and money on that.

Yes I can see your point Franco.RAI want to build the ratings up so they want to show the ESC entry at San Remo as it has such a huge audience.

I would think as well they will want a popular singer, someone who has high charting albums and singles in Italy.

Perhaps we could see the selection not being a San Remo entry this year but they might announce the artist and song at San Remo and perform it there?.Always an option.

From an outsider I just think some of the best Italian artists for ESC were at last years San Remo (Annalisa/Malika Ayane) and it would be crazy to exclude them because they probably wont be at San Remo as entries.

Now I see your point. But the fact is that it's usually artists' choice not to go to Sanremo 2 years in a row; it's not the organizers that want to exlcude them.
And they don't want to go because they don't have a new album every year. Thus, for the same reason they don't go to Sanremo, they won't go to Eurovision either, even if RAI would pick them outside Sanremo.

See Malika Ayane's albums release: 2008, 2010, 2012.

It's likely that her next album will come on late 2014.

Annalisa Scarrone, on the other hand, releases new albums every year:

Maybe she will go to Sanremo (and hopefully to Copenhagen), after all. xthink

Yes its highly unlikely an Italian star would enter San Remo or indeed ESC without a new album. The record company would want an album to promote.

I thought Malika Ayane was amazing this year at Battiti Live-Trani,,but like you said with no new album before ESC its unlikely shed be chosen/be put forward.

Annalisa however is working on a new album, and with the OGAE selection and also the nomination for best female artist at the world music awards it could be perfect timing for her.I doubt her record company would turn it down,if you like you say they could time her new album.

Does anyone have any details on her new album and timing of a possible release?

Latest news: on 18th of December we will know the list of Sanremo's next contestants. Still 2 months of waiting. xwait

Its terrible waiting Franco isn't it.Thankyou for keeping us English speakers updated. If we get a returning artist it would be a massive sign it could be the ESC entry.
Irene Fornaciari
Being British a favourite San Remo performance was when Brian May of Queen fame and Kerry Ellis performed with the wonderful Irene Fornaciari.
