Hmmm I think that it should be mostly in Italian, maybe 1 refrain & verse in English :D

Re: ITALY 2012 - Nina Zilli - Per sempre

It's official, indeed.

ESC Daily said:
Italy: Nina Zilli confirms she will sing ‘Per Sempre’ in Baku!

OGAE Italy attended a showcase with Italian representative Nina Zilli on March 1st in Florence after she participated in several showcases in Italian FNAC stores around the nation.

Nina Zilli stated during the showcase, that ‘Per Sempre’ will be the entry to represent Italy in Eurovision, with most likely a bilingual version, or even possibly a full English version, to be performed in Baku. Preparations of several versions of ‘Per Sempre’ are already underway with different arrangements and lyrics in order to find the best version to perform in Eurovision. The final version of the entry will be recorded within the coming days.

Not another English-language song. Stick to Italian language, please.

I love this quote about this issue (aswell as the overall English sell-outs in ESC these days), it sums it up pretty well:

"I hope they keep it all in Italian, or only small parts in English. Singing in English in the Eurovision has become the equivalent of eating a BigMac when you go to a restaurant. I wish more countries sung in their own languages."

Really happy with Italy's choice again this year. At first I was a bit disappointed that one of the new artists didnt get chosen from San Remo, but I love this song. 12 points from me!

I'll be very angry if she sings in English this wonderful song in this amazing language Italian, that I'll remove it from my top 10 and wish it bad luck!

I only compromise with a bilingual version, but still this will not be as good as the Italian version of the song! SOMEBODY STOP THEM! MAKE DEMONSTRATIONS ALL OVER ITALY!!!

I like the arrangement but Im not really impressed by the singer. The song needs more power and stronger vocals in my opinion.

I don't see it that way. Singing is a form of art, but also one of communication. If you are addressing to a pan-european audience, it's just courtesy not to exclude them from lyrics' comprehension. Thus, a mixed italian-english song could be a good choice to save both the art and the message. Another viable solution could be singing in italian while showing as subtitles the english translation, but it should be arranged with the broadcaster.

Re: ITALY 2012 - Nina Zilli - Per sempre

^Eh???? Why to show subtitles? Have anyone show subtitles of Molitva in 2007? And yet, it won... If all the songs will be performed in English, then no thanks, I don't wanna follow this contest anymore (now I sound like A-Lister  ). I accept anybody singing in English, except Italy, Spain and France. These two NO! Other countries sent songs in Italian, and Italy itself will sing in English? I just don't get it!

Last night I couldn't sleep (no, I'm not joking, it's true)! And this is what I was thinking: I will send a message to Roberto Casalino in facebook (I have a mutual "friend" with him, a Cypriot artist that worked with him in some songs) and I'll tell him about the situation, that it will be a suicide if they choose to sing in English. I might tell him that I represent people of a forum that are all upset because of this situation...

Re: ITALY 2012 - Nina Zilli - Per sempre

I did my duty! I sent this message to Roberto Casalino (the composer of the song). Among others, I told him:

Hello Roberto. How are you? I am a girl from Cyprus that follows your work, and I really like many songs you composed. I was thrilled to know that you composed this beautiful song "Per Sempre" that will participate in Eurovision this year. This song is amazing, it touches my soul. I was concerned, though, because I read in some websites that the song will be performed either half or fully in English. Is this true? Me, along with many people from a forum of discussions about Eurovision, we are worrying that this will not be a good idea. Everybody is expecting the Italian song for this year (and every year) to be in Italian, a wonderful language that has big fans all over Europe. If "Per Sempre" will be performed in English, then it will lose all this feeling that the Italian version gives us. I don't know if I can influence what will happen, but I really hope that Nina will sing in Italian in Eurovision! Other countries sent songs in Italian in the past, but what about Italy? I'll be very sad if Italy sings in English. Last night I couldn't sleep because of this reason, and my only way out is to send you this message here, so I can be relief! Keep up your amazing work, and I'm looking forward to hear more masterpieces written from you! Lots of love from Cyprus!!!!!

Well now you certainly did NOT sound like me! I smell the biasism against non-Latin languages, why is it okay for other countries to send in English but not these ones? Are these languages superior than German, Estonian, Greek, Russian or whatever European language? Well, it's subjective what languages one may find beautiful, but atleast I'm consistent in my agenda, either you support use of native languages in general, or not.

I hope you'll keep this in italian. Such a beautiful language.

And the song is very good... in the begining i didn't like very much, but now has been growing on me. Classy beautiful song with an pretty and talented singer.

You could just 'modernize' the instrumental or something. I find it a bit antiquated.

This is a very lovely song. I like it better than last years entry. :)

I'd prefer it in Italian even without hearing an English or bilingual version, for sure!

I doubt he can do anything at this stage. Probably everything is in the hands of RAI broadcaster and/or Universal music label, by now. However, keep us updated if and when he replies.

BTW: Nina will be in a tv show, tonight, 21:10 CET. Aim your satellite dishes towards Hotbird and search for "Canale 5" if you want to watch her performance live.

It's not because they are superior or something like that, BUT these languages are international, other countries sometimes send songs in these languages while they are not their official languages. Romania used Italian several times, and other countries too... If even them start singing in English, then what to expect?

By the way, Roberto Casalino answered me back in facebook:
(I think he's not familiar with the situation anyway)

...I think Nina is going to sing in English 'cause Italy usually sings in English at Eurofestival. But I still don't have news about it...I even don't know if she's gonna sing PER SEMPRE or the next single....
