Please keep discussion in this thread specific to Eden Golan and her song, Israel's (potential) participation in Eurovision 2024 and discussions or remarks from other countries and organisations about Israel's participation.

Any further discussion of a political or humanitarian nature not relating to specifically Israel in Eurovision 2024 needs to go into the politics sub-forum. Thank you!

Here's my opinion: the problems were made by countries and delegations when it was already too late.

At the beginning there wasn’t actually so much controversy. In fact, despite knowing Israel would participate. countries decided to participate too instead of withdrawing. And by that point, trouble started.

Especially when some countries selected their entry and all of a sudden, the specific participant suddenly started to criticize Israel‘s participation. But that is the artist‘s own agenda! Any other artist of the country would maybe not criticize Israel‘s participation.

Let’s bring up two different examples: Ireland and Iceland.

Ireland chose Bambie Thug and Bambie made trouble immediately after they were chosen. Their participation was used to turn it into a political agenda by Bambie. If Ireland did choose any other artist, the outcome would possibly be very different. Another participant wouldn’t have cared about politics and just participated because it‘s music they care about and not which country takes part.

Iceland even wanted a Palestine to participate! After it was announced Iceland went straight up to No. 1 in the betting odds. So you tell me this isn’t political? If he won he would have gone to Malmö with a political message. And also stirred the pot.

So why do these artists want to go there in first place? Why weren’t there louder voices in the beginning that country x did not want Israel to participate?

They were all fine with the EBU‘s decision. Maybe they weren’t happy about it but yet they participated.

It all started when somebody called out Israel, wrote an open letter against Israel‘s participation and asked other artists to join and sign. (Bambie). So why did the artist do that? It wasn’t necessary. If they wanted a statement, they would have withdrawn. But going and pressuring everybody to anti-Israel statements is a choice!
Iceland went to number one in the betting odds? When?

And when Israel selected “October Rain” as their entry then threatened to quit when asked to change their obviously political lyrics? That is somehow evidence that Israel was just there for the music and not to make a political point?

Eden was completely happy to go along with October Rain as the entry, btw

The thing is… Israel at least changed it as much as it took to satisfy EBU.

In contrary to other artists who constantly tried to sneak in symbols, hidden messages, accusations and their pro-Palestine anti-Israel propaganda.
They tried to fool the EBU and ruined it for everyone and made an already stressful contest more stressful for everyone else. Not Israel is the reason why this contest is a strain but all the other artists and delegations who forced the EBU / SVT to produce such a stressful show. If they didn’t attack Israel / Eden, most of the concerns wouldn’t exist.

Eden always sticked to the rules and never did anything else nor showed anything else but her song!

Germany‘s biggest accredited ESC site with a team of them sitting in the pressroom observed many of the situations live and tried to report about everything in the most neutral unbiased (typical serious German ;)) way. They are a very reliable source that can be trusted. And they had nothing but nice things to say about Eden! I‘m happy finally some press people are so courageous and stand up for Israel! Kudos & love to them!

Also Isaak did a short live on his way home today and he said he LOVES the Israelian song and that Eden is an insanely good vocalist! xheart

I can deal with it. I knew it would happen. Again, positive votes. If Russia was allowed to participate and Ukraine wasn't, you know what? Russia would receive 300+ televote points. See how this works? Would Europe be pro invasion then?

Israel got to try their propaganda with 300+ TV points. Israel was booed whenever it went on stage. That's life. And again, freedom of speech.
"Artwashing", the same way oppressive theocracies like countries from the Arab world participate in global sports such as football to make themselves appear in a positive light.

To think some want a televote only in the Grand Finale... They clearly don't see this.
This person clearly doesn't know how voting in the uk works. It look to me like they used their uk and Australia cards on the rotw votes and therefore wasted around €40 as those votes were not counted. A uk simcard is needed to vote from the uk, a uk credit card is not necessary.

I don't support Israel BUT I thought Marina's behaviour at press conf was extremely immature.
I am not boycotting Israel or have any interest in any of this politic shit going on there, but I think Marina's protest was the most harmless thing one could do (if they want to protest, that is).
