Please keep discussion in this thread specific to Eden Golan and her song, Israel's (potential) participation in Eurovision 2024 and discussions or remarks from other countries and organisations about Israel's participation.

Any further discussion of a political or humanitarian nature not relating to specifically Israel in Eurovision 2024 needs to go into the politics sub-forum. Thank you!

Dear Fluke, we can't be absolutely sure about potential risks for the participants safety, but btw is France, which is going to host the next Olympic Games with Israeli athletes in, sure it will all develop well? Are they sure they will not have some cracks in their security in that timespan? The answer is no, because nobody can assure that. But the world simply can't stop turning just because we live in dark days.

In conclusion, if Israel respects the rules, there is absolutely no reason to esclude it. And actually it won't be the first time Israel and Palestine were in the midst of a war during a Eurovision edition. I think EBU already find itself in that situation before... a lot of times actually.

The broadcaster didn't breach the rules.
Israel got the same chances like Belarus 2021, Georgia 2009, Armenia 2015 to change the song/the lyrics/song title.

I like to level criticism at the EBU as well and it's fair to criticise them for letting countries facing wars or being involved in wars to participate but judging by the rules, there are no double standards on the Israeli participation so far.

This was kinda expected seeing Israel had 3 tries to send a song.

I've seen people say drama is over, but this was barely the beginning of the shitstorm. Hopefully Malmö is prepared, but personally, I think EBU will regret not being more firm.

This. If anything, this is were the Drama will truly start, and it's going to make the all around atmosphere around this contest even more toxic than it is anyway. I'm not looking forward to that.

Are there delulus who think the drama is over? 💀 there won't be a single drama-free day from now on, let's be real. Malmö better reinforce that security system (esp because I don't want to die before graduating pleek)

Not much that they can do, they werent even able to stop a random man from invading Jamala's performance and show his peach to the camera 😂 I dont think theres really gonna be an attack on her, but with the habit fans have the latest years to throw things to artists on stage, you never know. Maybe a palestinian flag, maybe objects, even a cellphone. Maybe a live on tape performance is indeed a good idea if she goes

Don't think a suicide bomber would get through security at the gate in the first place, don't know if I would really worry about a hardcore situation like that. If you look "muslim" you should worry, if they will let you in, there will be racial profiling going on.

I expect there to be stage invasions, booing, maybe stuff thrown. This is the possibly worst year to have the stage directly in the middle of the audience and have them surround the artist 💀

It doesn't even need anything crass like that to seriously impair the other artists eurovision experience tho. For starters, some twitter 'fans' have started tagging the participating artists (like Nemo, Kaleen, Slimane, Bambie - basically everyone with Twitter) to help protest. As if the artists could really do anything - they're just getting pestered with no way to do anything about it. I hate this :(

Edit: apparently Saba already said in a Podcast that she feels unsafe bcs of the whole situation. This won't make it better...

Lol the Israelis aren't as happy about it as she is
Many Israelis are divided on the issue of Eurovision during a war, even in Israel, not everyone is enthusiastic about Israel taking care of Eurovision when there is a war and there are hostages, things that contradict participation in a musical event, no matter how big, some in Israel still perceive it as a musical show that is a waste of effort to send. But the desire to show Israel to the world even during such a crisis, to give an atmosphere of strength and steadfastness, is the other side which is the majority in this case

It's really not just the Israeli delegation. When it comes to safety, everyone in the arena can potentially indirectly end up in a dangerous situation. It only takes one crazy person...
But Eurovision knew such things in the past even without connection to Israel. There are a number of British contestants who will testify to a frightening incident while performing a final performance.

It was Israel as the host, when the arena at the time was both hot with threats and dramas in danger of cancellation, made sure to maintain a routine and made sure that the Eurovision event was safe for all participants.
Any matter of security, it depends on the seriousness of the host country, if it is serious, there should not be a problem.

Live on tape is definitely a back-up plan not only for her but for every other contestant in case things turn out unsafe
