Honestly, being Irish if PIL get selected then we may as well pull out forever. Johnny Rotten is a homophobic, foul mouthed has been, who openly hates eurovision and is simply entering for attention. Though I do acknowledge the sweet theme of the song.

I think "too good for your love" would probably qualify if the vocals are good.

But I agree, "Midnight Summer Night" is by far the strongest if given a little clean up in the revamp, it's a demo as you said so it's definitely getting revamped, possibly twice (before national selection and competition if selected).

It has a celtic vibe with a but of Enya and Lana Del Rey. There's nothing similar up for entering this year so far, so it would stand out with some good staging. A lot you can do with it on stage.

If Midnight Summer Night is chosen and the revamp is half good it should qualify and possibly do quite well. It's just a very calming song to listen to, but also very current and modern.

It would be the first Irish entry in a decade I'd actually be happy with. The only irish entry I feel that deserved to do well this past decade was playing with numbers, still hurts me didn't make it to the final. Was brilliant.

I don't get the appeal of having a British band in an Irish selection... unless they had the best song, of course ;)
Mr. Lydon's comments do seem odd, when one considers the competition he's involving himself in but hey, bad publicity is better than none. Anyway, he's free to have his thoughts and opinions regarding the contest (some of which are perfectly valid, to be fair).

I'm not too fond of EDM, and Too Good For Your Love doesn't sit too well with me, tbh.

Yeah, I think it's the only song that is recognizably Irish (from a non-native perspective), and I like the ethereal feeling it radiates.

I'd agree with you on Playing With Numbers. Great entry :)

Even that wouldn't save them from the blood bath of SF1

They really got shafted by that allocation draw. Payback for the 0 in JESC. xqueenbitch

I'm still very positive about midnight summer night. She's made clear we've only heard the demo yet and plans a revamp for Friday night and if selected another revamp before may.

just listened to midnight summer night. i like it but it's a huge "ripoff" of coldplays "clocks"
for me it's either this one or we are one (which blatantly rips off u2...)

Adgy singing in Irish is kind of conflicting to me, as it isn't one of my favourite songs but the idea of us singing in Irish again at Eurovision would be pretty exciting. (just hope it wouldn't come across stuffed into the song just for the sake of it)

Then again, the song probably still wouldn't qualify so I'd rather not give RTE the chance to make the incorrect assumption of "Irish Language = non qualification".

It isn't going to win anyway. Wild Youth will win this comfortably as much as I'd like too see Connolly win.

Given Adgy is from the Gaeltacht the irish inclusion shouldnt be seen as a gimmick however the fact that it is only 20 seconds and its inclusion was contingent on him getting 100 retweets for it is a bit of a worry

The late late Show: Eurovision Special

I have to say that none of the songs really gets me --- and I think no matter which song will be chosen, Ireland will hardly make it to the final in May unless there is a fantastic staging that can elevate whatever song will be chosen. But even Connelly won't save it, I guess. Ireland, I hope you will come back stronger next year. The past years were terrible.

I think Ireland has a chance with Adgy if he has a good staging and performance. The song is generic but the production is good. Better than what they've send in the last few years.

Most of the songs here are pretty nice but I don't get any "wow" effects there

I think ADGY and Wild Youth could be growers live tho

Please just avoid Hawaii

I hope that RTE's live player thing has a "restart program from beginning" button on it, because I'll be late to it, and I really want to see one of the presenters to ask Rotten, "So, why are you here?".

Every year, more or less about 40 countries participate in Eurovision and here we are... facing another collection of generic to decent (pop) songs and there are people thinking that "[they] could win"?!

Honestly, IF :ie: gets lucky they might be sneaking into the final this year and get a rank which is higher than #26.

Right! You'd get a better opinion from Tubbs from the League of Gentlemen:

And possibly a better song than any of these too. If there's one thing that frustrates me it's hearing people describe a country as having taken "a step in the right direction." It just means that they aren't as dire as the previous year.

A few more steps like this and they might be able to scrape bottom 5 before the decade is out, but it is possible to go from zero to hero overnight if the attitude is right. Sadly, Ireland's attitude is not.
