Honestly, being Irish if PIL get selected then we may as well pull out forever. Johnny Rotten is a homophobic, foul mouthed has been, who openly hates eurovision and is simply entering for attention. Though I do acknowledge the sweet theme of the song.
I think "too good for your love" would probably qualify if the vocals are good.
But I agree, "Midnight Summer Night" is by far the strongest if given a little clean up in the revamp, it's a demo as you said so it's definitely getting revamped, possibly twice (before national selection and competition if selected).
It has a celtic vibe with a but of Enya and Lana Del Rey. There's nothing similar up for entering this year so far, so it would stand out with some good staging. A lot you can do with it on stage.
If Midnight Summer Night is chosen and the revamp is half good it should qualify and possibly do quite well. It's just a very calming song to listen to, but also very current and modern.
It would be the first Irish entry in a decade I'd actually be happy with. The only irish entry I feel that deserved to do well this past decade was playing with numbers, still hurts me didn't make it to the final. Was brilliant.
Even that wouldn't save them from the blood bath of SF1

And only 8 & 6 in ESC last year. Do better, Ireland. They really got shafted by that allocation draw. Payback for the 0 in JESC.
I'm still very positive about midnight summer night. She's made clear we've only heard the demo yet and plans a revamp for Friday night and if selected another revamp before may.Even that wouldn't save them from the blood bath of SF1
It isn't going to win anyway. Wild Youth will win this comfortably as much as I'd like too see Connolly win.Adgy singing in Irish is kind of conflicting to me, as it isn't one of my favourite songs but the idea of us singing in Irish again at Eurovision would be pretty exciting. (just hope it wouldn't come across stuffed into the song just for the sake of it)
Then again, the song probably still wouldn't qualify so I'd rather not give RTE the chance to make the incorrect assumption of "Irish Language = non qualification".
Thanks for the optimism Mauve.Today!
The late late Show: Eurovision Special
I have to say that none of the songs really gets me --- and I think no matter which song will be chosen, Ireland will hardly make it to the final in May unless there is a fantastic staging that can elevate whatever song will be chosen. But even Connelly won't save it, I guess. Ireland, I hope you will come back stronger next year. The past years were terrible.
Anyway Tubridy has decided to run his mouth and say could would Eurovision this year.
Right! You'd get a better opinion from Tubbs from the League of Gentlemen:
And possibly a better song than any of these too. If there's one thing that frustrates me it's hearing people describe a country as having taken "a step in the right direction." It just means that they aren't as dire as the previous year.
A few more steps like this and they might be able to scrape bottom 5 before the decade is out, but it is possible to go from zero to hero overnight if the attitude is right. Sadly, Ireland's attitude is not.
