This is The Late Late Show we're talking about - the viewership are the Johnny Rotten/Sex Pistols era...
The Late Late Show, much like anything in ireland that comes from our national broadcaster is shocking bad. However, since Brooke was selected last year over a few cutie boys with guitars etc, the older people watching seem to get outvoted by the young people and LGBTQ people that tune in for one night only to see the songs.

It's a shocking situation that our national selection takes place on a talk show which usually would be discussing such fun and uplifting topics as dying from heart disease, the latest national tragedy in the news and an interview with your granny's favourite singer from the 1950s.

I kid you not .. thats a typical line up on the Late Late show haha.

But the young do seem to tune in just to vote as seen last year. Brooke was the best option.

I'm hoping for Connolly with Midnight Summer Night. The song has a nice indie vibe, is a little lana del rey or Enya (irish singer), but also has a slight celtic influence I feel. Since the final song isn't released and it's still a demo she could do a lot with it.

He's been a loose canon for decades, are we even surprised :ROFLMAO:
It shows how tone deaf RTE are when out of all the hundreds of songs submitted they let this nutjob get selected when his appeal is to people over 65 and he's openly a supporter of the far right in the US and UK, is anti LGBTQ people and referred to the eurovision as "disgusting". Part of me feels he was chosen to add some drama to the selection on the night. Something akin to Linda Martin getting angry at an audience member a decade ago. Boost the ratings.

Was it this one?

What exactly did happen? It looks like a sketch, was it staged or real?
Yup. No its not staged. Basically the guy in the audience is a former band member of Aslan, he was mentoring one of the acts that had performed that night, hoping they'd be selected. Louis Walsh (the grey haired man next to Linda) is well known in Ireland and Britain for bands such as westlife and boyzone as well as Jedward, which he managed.

Billy, the man in the audience called out Louis Walsh being there claiming he was not a trustworthy or neutral judge. Basically thought Louis was capable of being paid off or choosing who RTE wanted. Linda immediately jumped to Louis defense but she then got attacked also as she had been previously working with Louis in the industry. Basically the entire thing was being called out as corrupt. RTE putting people on the panel they'd know would vote for who they want.

Linda wasn't one to sit back and smile lol. So it made for great viewing hahaha

Chances are he was right.. I mean look at last years selection! The RTE panel chose acts as their favourites that the public and international jury didn't. If the RTE panel had majority control last year as it had other years we'd have sent another boy with a guitar squeaking about love.

Trashy comments and honestly, it bothers me that he got chosen to be part of this NF.
What a mess to react that way..saying that Eurovision was "disgusting" and he would never watch it.... why are you competing!?! Apparently, he wants to "shake it up and bring some punk".... seriously, it's just a bitter man talking who has not a single clue what Eurovision is and how it has evolved over the years. Iceland 2019, Hungary 2018, Czech Republic 2007, Italy 2021 and a few Finnish entries (2022, 2021, 2008) brought much more "punk" to Euroviaion than "Hawaii" would do.
He's probably one of those people who hates every other output or genre which he hasn't recorded/played to... it's ignorant and he's wrong.
A pity he got into this NF based on his name alone whilst a band such as Cruachan got robbed. They would "shake it up" even mode and seems to have a better spirit.

The Irish broadcaster should pull the trigger and disqualify Public Image Ltd... what's the point of submitting someone to Eurovision who "hates" it? He will not be able to cope all the things around it and will put the whole Irish delegation and participation to shame.

It's not too late. Ireland can still disqualify them and let another artist take their spot.

I mean I really like the message behind his song (since I also care about my mom for 5 years now) and can relate to the past beautiful moments, but when reading these statements, I wonder why on earth he participates at all if he doesn't like ESC. It simply makes no sense. That way I can't support him even though I feel with him about his wife.

Why is anyone surpised that Johnny Rotten has once again wet himself for attention he does this all the time he is constantly desperate for relevance when the last thing he did of relevance in his own country was a series of butter adverts from 15 years ago

Unpopular opinion: we don't have to judge people for their public statements about the competition, because people usually changes their mind about everything. We should focus on songs and performances.

And well, in this case, the song...is a pile of smelly s**t. Sorry, maybe next year John. I'm really sad for your wife condition, but let's be honest this is not the best way to honour her, let's just say so to be more polite...

Yeah but this isn't a comment he made in the past. It was this week

I think it's a better selection overall than last year, at least it feels like there's more than one option.

My ranking:

01. Midnight Summer Night
02. Wild

- gap -

03. Too Good For Your Love
04. We Are One
05. Down in the Rain
06. Hawaii

I feel like my top two have the most potential but I could maybe see my 3rd or 4th pick possibly doing ok too. I think Down in the Rain and Hawaii would be definite NQs.

Knowing the windbag that is Johnny Rotten even if he does win he'll throw a wobbler and refuse to do the contest anyway. So I wouldn't worry too much about him getting anywhere too far.

What is it with people who only take part in Eurovision only to despise it publicly? This arrogant snobish behavior is so annoying. Mr Rotton, no one needs you at Liverpool with your „I’m gonna show these trash-people what real music is“- attitude! You had your time, thankfully it‘s over!

Nothing special, average songs. My favourite was Leila Jane's Wild, but it too wasn't excellent.

An alright selection from Ireland, but wish they would try something more risky next time..!

Best option here:
Connolly - Midnight Summer Night
I'd would like to have a revamp, since it's just a demo version, but it's got great promise :)

Although, I do also like Public Image's track.

Honestly, being Irish if PIL get selected then we may as well pull out forever. Johnny Rotten is a homophobic, foul mouthed has been, who openly hates eurovision and is simply entering for attention. Though I do acknowledge the sweet theme of the song.

I think "too good for your love" would probably qualify if the vocals are good.

But I agree, "Midnight Summer Night" is by far the strongest if given a little clean up in the revamp, it's a demo as you said so it's definitely getting revamped, possibly twice (before national selection and competition if selected).

It has a celtic vibe with a but of Enya and Lana Del Rey. There's nothing similar up for entering this year so far, so it would stand out with some good staging. A lot you can do with it on stage.

If Midnight Summer Night is chosen and the revamp is half good it should qualify and possibly do quite well. It's just a very calming song to listen to, but also very current and modern.

It would be the first Irish entry in a decade I'd actually be happy with. The only irish entry I feel that deserved to do well this past decade was playing with numbers, still hurts me didn't make it to the final. Was brilliant.
