I'm gonna let go of the armor
Let off the power that I've been lighting
Not afraid of the monsters, of the nightmares
That I've been fighting

Easy to run, harder to stay
Finding colors in the grey
You thought I was done
But I've gotta go on
I fell twice, now I'm twice as strong

I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home
I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home

I had to take all of the wrong ways
All of the wrong ways
As I couldn't see
All the signs, all the mistakes
Pointing one way to get back to me

Easy to run, harder to stay
Finding colors in the grey
You thought I was done
But I've gotta go on
I fell twice, now I'm twice as strong

I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home
I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home

My soul is a map, my heart is a compass
I am the road
There's only one way to go
This is the way back home
My soul is a map, my heart is a compass
I am the road
There's only one way to go
This is the way back home

I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces
Only one way to go
This is the way back home
I've been searching all the wrong places
I've been trying too many faces (I've been trying)
Only one way to go
This is the way back home

Tumblr, mostly.
Yeah, my worry here is that all the SOML fans will like it a little less, whilst all the others will like it more, putting it firmly in that NQ middle ground.
There aren't enough SOML fans in the world to even have an impact. Ireland were looking at dead last in 2020's semifinal, with about as many votes, numerically, as Sarah McWhatserface.

I can think of one who's not very far away!

Finally some good effing food from Ireland (been a while, hasn't it?). Honestly sounds like something that would be a fan favourite at Melfest (being sung by someone like Mariette), as well as the aforementioned Katy and Avril, super slick and polished and also kind of anthemic but it feels closer to who Lesley is as an artist than Story of My Life did IMO.

If it doesn't make the final it's definitely not because the song's not good enough.

Story Of My Life was my very clear last place of 2020. It was the one song I strongly disliked. Maps is a different direction (thank god) and an improvement, but I'm unfortunately not feeling it at all. It sounds like pretty much everything I currently greatly dislike about Melodifestivalen. Those more adult radio friendly pop songs with the tiniest smidge of indie that are then polished ferociously until nothing is left, and it's all one big blur of nothing. That beat delivers a sense of urgency to what is a very bland composition, and so that fast pacing just comes off as irritating. Where exactly are we galloping to here? What's the reward? Certainly not the cookie cutter chorus which is the worst part of the song. This feels so nondescript and indistinguishable from other songs batting on the same team.

I can only give :3: points. I can admire the effort but the end result is not for me.

It’s sweet, upbeat and crucially not a total car crash! Will trouble my personal top ten, I’d really hope to see this qualify.

I understand the melfest comparisons and I won't deny these elements are there.
But for me, Maps does have a soul that I often miss in melfest entries (though even melfest songs do have that sometimes, not to be completely unfair) - it might be my Avril Lavigne bias, my bias towards :ie:, or it could simply be caused by Lesley's charisma.

Anyways, I find this to be radiofriendly on the surface while still having more to offer underneath.

Yes this is great! I love it, probably the best Irish entry since 2015. I love Lesley, I am however worried for her live, last year her live was quite bad. Love it tho, I think this is my number 3 after Czechia and Cyprus. Then Ireland, France, Lithuania and Croatia. Israel is 7th, Spain 8th, Norway 9th - if the staging changed I would be probably my 7th or even 6th but I kinda think he wants to keep it, Finland 10th - still a great song but just not my style of music, Germany - 11th can't stand it, it's awful. Didn't rank Albania and Ukraine due to the upcoming revamp.

Nice entry from Ireland. I feel like SOML was more catchy and memorable, but Maps has more quality, although it is not kind of song that you memorize after the first listening.

However, I believe it might qualify and it would be absolutely deserved (at least when it comes to the song itself). Good job, Ireland.

This is quite a positive surprise! I didn't expect to like it that much, based on last year's entry. :7: points for no from me. It might be a borderline NQF but :ie: can be proud of this decent entry anyway.

In the swimming pool, always stayin' cool
What a big glow-up for Ireland !

Was not really hyped at first (Story of my Life was a bit annoying tbh), but for Maps it took me just a few listens to have goosebumps. The chorus is really great, the production also, it's a warm song, and Lesley sings her heart out.
Did not expect that : second in my ranking right now. Congrats Lesley !

Will this be enough is qualify ? I don't know, the first SF already looks like a bloodbath. But i REALLY wanna see her qualify.

Woah, ok, this is a massive improvement, a much more mature, polished tune, with a MF production feeling but still miles ahead of anything Melodifestivalen has to offer this year.

Finally a great entry entry from Ireland. xheat the first one in literal decades.

I think Maps is a more solid and musically stronger track than SOML. But, SOML had the emotional impact for me which Maps doesn't. Still a pretty good song, and I could see the juries go for it, if not the opposition is too strong. But I like it, would maybe perhaps end top 20 when songs are out. :)
