So, is there's actually any "truth" to the Samantha Mumba rumors or just wishful thinking? xshrug

I'd really like that!

A dream would be a The Corrs re-union (or Andrea Corr as solo) or Cranberries (or Dolores O'Riordan as solo)... but I guess that would never happen

That is true, even though it still wouldn't be anything special.

It's actually in my top. 10 of last year, but then again the year was rather weak in general... but I still think it's a quite nice song in its genre, totally underrated in the final.

About the other discussion we were having, on the Swiss thread (I think?), "Only love survives" is an example of the quirks the voting system has. 23rd in the juries average, 14th in the televoters average, and 26th overall with 5 points. WTF? xcrazy

Oh yeah, that's really effed up

I wonder how that's even mathematically possible??? xshrug (it probably is... I've yet to look into how it really works)...

That's part of the reasons why I don't want this system anymore... but EBU are obviously not listening to fans because I can't really recall anyone who are satisfied with this system (other than EBU themselves because the system gives juries even more power) xshrug

And how is that even possible??? I mean c'mon... it's like they fix the results or something

Spain 2(Italy) + 6(Albania)=8 points
Ireland 1(UK) + 2(Sweden) + 2(Cyprus)=5 points

They had that stupid average rank last year instead of the points from the previous to make the rankings so that probably messed everything up xdoh

I have a feeling Jonas Gladnikoff's team will represent Ireland this year, as songwriters!

It's not fixed, the average system simply results more often in those strange cases.
I do think the previous system was better. It's more easy to corrupt the juries votes with the current one, despite the diaspora voting being more killed with it.

I can't wait for EBU to release the full thing after this years contest to proper analyze it :D

Yes, it's obviously introduced to give the juries more powers, but it's a dangerous path to go because they can manipulate their rankings in such ways that it truly undermines legitimacy of the whole contest. Well they could before aswell, but not as much as they can now.

We'll see if they'll release it, they'll probably change their mind about "transparency" in the last second

Last year they (EBU) argued about the supposed "reasons" for not releasing all the split results in a similar fashion as dictators argue on why they keep facts hidden from the people  (newspeak: "It's better for you the dumb people to not know because it can be harmful for you" / translation: "We won't give you the results because it'll expose the corruption and flaws in the jury system")

Or both?

Btw, weren't telephone-lines bought somehow? xshrug So probably not the people, but a manipulation of the voting by the telephone company

Didn't Azerbaijan sell them a large amount of telephone cards and basically pay people in Malta to vote for them or something like that xthink I can't remember the exact accusation

It's not solely the juries, people are bought to vote enmass aswell, like in Malta, Lithuania, Switzerland etc. The juries can be less corrupt if the number is increased.

Wasn't that another country?

I'm pretty sure the Maltese juries are bribed aswell though... it's just unnatural how an unrelated country without any particular diaspora from the other would give 12's each and every year like that xshrug

Yes, but it's obviously harder to "buy" millions of voters than a group of 5 people

Well they targeted smaller populated Countries. Considering how many view, and the fraction that vote. It's not millions. It's not like theyre buying votes in the UK. It's too populated to corrupt. Malta, Cyprus etc are smaller more manageable countries.

Yes of course, but even in small countries there might be some 1000 voters and it's obviously easier to bribe juries then.

Considering the juries got more than half the power (on paper they got equal powers - but considering the voting system they even have theoretically more), a country can get far just by catering to these people.

It doesn't matter what the averages are, what matters is whether countries ranked you highly as well as low. For example, Ireland may well have an average of 14th place, but if every country ranked Ireland 14th in their televote they would come last as they'd recieve no points. Same reasoning with the jury.

If a country has a lower average but at least a few countries placed them in the televoting or jury top 10 then they would recieve more points than one with this higher average.
