Last year it was Danny de Vito if I remember correctly.

bloody hell. state institutions can't do anything right in this country.

Just checked the 5 songs and this is how I mostly felt about them:

Hopefully the live versions are better...

I'm getting a nasty feeling that Can-Linn will lose tonight.

I'm rooting for Can-linn & Kasey Smith. "Hearbeat" is the most interesting song of the bunch, without a shadow of doubt.

The Movie Song is the typical Irish song for eurovision: pleasant-ish, mainstream-ish, radio friendly-ish and totally uninteresting.
My favourite is definitely Be Mine.

My whole night will be tossed in the trash if "Heartbeat" doesn't win.

I've always had a soft spot for Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest. I find almost all of their entries good to very good (with some exceptions of course). I just love Eurovision old style. ;-) The quality of the songs in their final this year is good, nothing exceptional or extraordinary, but just good. I like all the songs but "Heartbeat" by Cann-linn feat. Kasey Smith is my big favorite. I hope it wins tonight. "Be mine" by Andrew Mann has the least interesting song of the five and is my least favorite song.

I hope Ireland will do much better in the final this year because “Only love survives” by Ryan Dolan was a very good song and Ryan and his entry didn’t deserve to finish last in the final.

Good luck Ireland!

I might watch it tonight.
Considering what has been said about the quality of RTÉ's studio, should I listen to the songs beforehand in order to have the best impression of them?

I could happily listen to all 5 of them.. I assume it will be WagWan or Can Linn who will win though. but it is anyone's game tonight, I it being a very open final..

If Can Linn wins tonight though I can see Ireland being one of the favourites to win in May

I'd rather pluck my testes one hair at a time than watch this NF but good luck to our neighbours, if you don't choose Heartbeat you probably need it.
