Re: IRELAND 2012

Mine:

1. Jedward - It's very un-Jedward like actually, but I like it! :D It reminds me a bit of Busted's old songs. I think they can go all the way not just in the National Final but also in Eurovision, everyone wrote them off last year and look what they did. Everyone's writing them off again now, but you'll see... Go Jedward! xsalute
2. Donna McCaul - Love it, I wasnt keen on her (or him) last time she was at Eurovision, but this is a great and modern-sounding song. It'd do very well at Eurovision - maybe even Top10 judging by the rest of the crap that other countries are selecting!
3. Andrew Mann - I like this, it's a nice song that I think could do reasonably well at Eurovision. I would be worried that it could just miss out on qualification though.
4. Maria McCool - The Irish sound is nice but it goes on a bit, I have the feeling it could be terrible live. We'll see I guess - Eurovision success would depend on whether the rest of Europe is feeling in the mood for some Celtic sounds!
5. David Shannon & Una Gibney - It's just boring really, I dont like it much.

All-in-all, none are terrible, but I would be surprised if anyone even comes close to stealing this from Jedward - there isnt any song that the Jury will get all horny about like they did last year for 'Falling', and the public will of course throw all their weight behind Jedward. I expect to see Ireland's 2012 Eurovision entry as being Jedward. If Ireland by chance dont select Jedward, it will be a huge mistake.

Really? I don't think the ESC voters will be as gullible in regards to Jedward. As was said on the Irish radio broadcast, the novelty has worn off. But more importantly, I think Donna's song would finish higher at ESC. It has all the ingredients. But I agree that Jedward will no doubt get the vote. I also agree that it has a massive "Busted" vibe about it, although I'm not sure I would have that as a good thing.

Did people really write off Jedward last year? I seem to recall most thinking Jedward had a legit shot at winning the whole thing, so if anything 8th was a massive failure for one of the favourites.

The comment about Maria McCool is spot on though, I have a feeling it could bomb live.

07/10 Jedward - Waterline === I expected something more Lipstick-ey... Not bad
05/10 Andrew Mann - Here I am === Kinda boring but with some nice moments
05/10 Donna McCaul - Mercy === Not Duffy...
04/10 Una Gilbey & David Shannon - Language of love === Boring, but suits ESC for some reason.
03/10 Maria McCool and Celtic Whisper - Mistaken === Not my style at all

Re: IRELAND 2012

Jedward were polarizing but most people didn't write them off. But as I pointed out before, while I didn't like 'Lipstick' I am the first to admit it suited them and it worked in their favor. Waterline is a washed down boyband song and I also think the novelty is wearing off and just because they did well last year does not guarantee them success in 2012.

In the end all we can do is wait and see but I honestly think it is the weakest song in that bunch and if it wasn't for the brand attached to it, none of us would be paying much attention.

Lipstick was quite a catchy song. But the boys can't sing, which is a shame. :)

...but they could sing Lipstick and that's all that counted in Dusseldorf.

Waterline requires more vocal ability, which could prove a problem in Baku. It also provides less scope for their childish antics. It's a more generic boyband song. Jedward aren't a generic boyband. They're not suited to the heartthrob role. I can't imagine them having relationships with girls that go any further than pulling pigtails and kiss chase.

Just gave Waterline a listen, agreeing with the Busted vibe comments. Unsure how this one will be live though :s

Re: IRELAND 2012

Whilst hardly earth shattering in its composition or performance Lipstick played to Jedward's strengths (such as they are) and was ultimately one of the catchiest tunes of Eurovision 2011. I think in trying to show that Jedward are not a one trick pony this song will end up showing that they are precisely that.

Re: IRELAND 2012

No bad songs here imho (I even think the Jedward track is decent , fear it will fall apart live though), but the only stand out is Maria McCool! 'Mistaken' has such a beautiful melody and her fantastic voice fits perfectly for this type of song. Give her the ticket to Baku already!

Re: IRELAND 2012

Matt, there is no chance for anyone else but for Jedward. Imo the Irish NF is the most predictable this year
