Ah yes, your list made me rewatch Leander Kills, my pre-show #1. I don't understand why this performance was thrown out in the first round already, despite a great 9 from the voters. The juries were mostly positive too, they were saying something along the lines that the lyrics could be better without saying anything concretely that they don't like about it. :?
I think Leander will be back, maybe going back to his original metal style. Ádám Szabó of yesyes however said he won't apply anymore.

The harping on the lyrics by the A Dal jury on songs in HUNGARIAN has always puzzled me like. Who the fuck CARES. Nobody outside of Hungary understands a lick of your language, do not fucking take that shit into account when deciding Eurovision entries you dolts!!

I actually really hated all of Leander Kills's metal entries so I hope he doesn't revert back at all

Ah yes it's especially Miki who is overanalyzing the lyrics as if we were at a Hungarian language class... There's a special prize for 'Best Lyrics', take these things into account there but to throw away perfectly fine performances just because they personally don't like some of the images used in the lyrics, is so stupid indeed. :?

Well this was my fave entry of Leander Kills too, but the 2018 song is what's his usual style is and it's not like he got encouraged by this year's result to continue with this style.

Yeah Miklos has a weird lyrics fetish, but for some godforsaken reason he's STILL a better juror than Misi and Lilla who are woeful in both taste AND voting ugh eff off!!!

Ferö can stay though. xheart Loyal soldier in the army of petruska xheart

Must have been a couple of details, like not having Tilla as the violinist on stage, too simple staging and Leander oversinging the last chorus? There's always a chance for them to improve something if they make it into the semis, goddammit.

Ahh these lyrical fetishits, hate them too; Gergő's ones were criticized as well somewhat?

I personally think we'll have a year off Leander, perhaps? A new album is coming (otherwise why release so many lyric videos one day after another... unless you're doing a Rihanna who did the same and none of those singles even madr it into the ANTi ), so I am guessing that they'll tour it out for 6 months and forget to submit something lol. In a Wiwibloggs interview Barnabas Mike asked him if Leander would like to enter his other band, Amigod, to a future edition, and I might as well see this instead of Leander Kills for the next year? Perhaps?

But I would not mind, AND I would love Gergő Szekér to come back, but I really doubt it :( (what do you think balizeg?)

Yes that first performance from Leander was not perfect, but he would have deserved chance to perform again to make changes, improvements.
Like Joci too, his heat performance was not that great either compared to his great semi final performance with the new arrangement, slightly differently singing etc.

Yes for Gergő Miki picked out one line "kinek léte az élet" saying it's something that sounds good but doesn't make sense. He advised Gergő and others to make friends in the artist community, to have constructive and creative communication between them, to show his lyrics he wrote to someone with more experience in it to have it checked out.
He is right about this, it's a good way to learn, improve, etc but I don't agree that one line doesn't make sense. :) Lét and élet both mean "life" so the line means "Someone for whom life is their life" meaning someone who loves life, in my read. :geek:
I see Gergő coming back if not next year then later, after all his career has just started. After an early exit from X faktor last year, this was his debut single, written by himself, and it was a success.

Never was a fan of Origo, but this one right here... amazing. I believe it's my favourite so far. Can someone give context to the lyrics? Just read the translation, is it about his biological father or does it have another, probably religious connotation?
Either way, 10 points from me.

While I absolutely liked "Origo" for being so different and authentic, I find this song to be very bland and uninspiring :( It's not a bad song at all, it just doesn't do anything for me. After many years of having :hu: in my top 10, this year the tradition is broken :(

Same for me. The most tragic thing for me is that for me Hungary had so many exciting songs this year and they choose a rather boring one. Don't understand it. My biggest disappointment. They could have tried it with Leander Kills or DENIZ (loved his performance). Loved Konyha,, yesyes (but live they weren't that good, I have to admit)and many more. For me it feels like a step back, after I had Hungary also in my top 10 almost every year. xcry1

I've mulled over it, but i have a sneaking suspicion Joci could do even better in Tel Aviv than he did in Kyiv. The song is definitely not on "Origo"'s level in terms of originality, staging and production, but how many times has a returning artist won an NF with a worse entry and did better with it anyway? Quite often, when you think about it. "Euphoria" is the most basic of Loreen's three entries but she won with it, failing to make AC with the other two. "Terminal 3" is way better than "Why Me" but it's the latter that won. Christabelle's "Taboo" was worse than her "Rush", but the former won MESC.

Of course the paradigm doesn't always apply (THYWAS was NOT better than Fairytale and thank Yohanna didn't do as well.), but I think dismissing a song's chances because we think it's worse than the performer's previous work is a bit premature.

The biggest hurdle that Joci faced last time was the jury vote, because of rampant musical snobism among the international juries, who are phobic towards anything which doesn't conform to the painfully narrow standards they project onto the current music scene. "Az én apám" doesn't have that such problems. It's a straight-up emotional ballad that is well-sung and in content lies close to Joci's own heart. Not saying juries will lap it up, but they should be significantly more receptive towards it than they were to Origo. All Joci really needs is a simple act that allows his song to break through the language barrier and he'll be set to do really well.

Basically. I guess they put Joci through early just so they could pick him asap and then whine later (even if Joci was decent on the heat, he was a bit sick, mind you). And Leander? Oh no siree, can't have that, let's not allow them to improve so nothing is in our way

Bashing the lyrics for one line... kinda strange really. That just reminds me of when I was writing poems when I was little and my mom told me to fix things here and there so they'd make cohesive sense. Of course it's a good improving curve, but like I said, strange, heh.

I see Gergő coming back if not next year then later, after all his career has just started. After an early exit from X faktor last year, this was his debut single, written by himself, and it was a success.

That's good enough, I hope people don't expect him to out-nail "Madár, repülj!" though, because a possibly better song than that would probably be ruined even more by the juries in an even weaker year of lineup. That and the "second song pressure" I guess.

And this is possibly his first single under MistralMusic if his earlier singles are anything to indicate (or were they even singles??), considering he apparently was through another label at the beginning?? That's what Google results showed me, anyway. Doesn't help no one really knows that label anyway, as its music channel only has a few videos and 2 subscribers.

+ what do you think, will we be having Stolen Beat on A Dal in the future?

Euphoria has THAT CHORUS that the other entries of her lacked (and for the matter most of her other music) and THAT SHOW to accompany.

Az én apám is not bad, it is pleasant & quite sensitive but it does not build up to anything.

He said he wrote it as a "thank you" to his biological father. He is religious (on the official channel's "first reaction" video he says in Israel he plans to visit religious places), but as far as I know the lyrics don't have religious connotation, he didn't imply it in interviews.

Well he wasn't really bashing Gergő for it, he just meant it as an advice for his future career. (And after all, he gave the most points to him in the final :))

I haven't heard those early songs of him, wow, he was really young then! I know he is also a (dubbing) actor, but he came to the public eye only thanks to X Faktor last autumn. And though he was out there quite soon (Hungarian X faktor became tragic in the last few editions, with hardly any live shows) he said this gave him the confidence to enter A Dal which he didn't do previously, eventhough he was already writing songs.

Yeah I guess so that Stolen Beat will enter, maybe in the next edition.

'My heart is refusing me' is one of the best songs every written. Not even in Eurovision context. It's legit one of the best songs of the 2010s. Euphoria is so basic in comparison. I actually like 'Statements' more as well :)
