Greece: Special deadline extension
Greece have been granted a special deadline extension for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest, according to Executive Supervisor Jon Ola Sand. Following ERT’s closure earlier this year, the interim broadcaster are not yet members of the European Broadcasting Union – and therefore are not eligible to take part in next May’s competition. However, due to these extreme circumstances the EBU have decided to offer an extension as Jon Ola Sand explains:
“We are in close contact and we would really like to have the Greeks take part. I hope that we will find a solution, but this is not in place as yet. We have given them an extended deadline beyond the 22nd of November, which is the sign-up deadline”
Jon Ola Sand also affirmed the EBU’s commitment to having as many countries as possible in Copenhagen next year, but added that participation fees cannot be reduced as it would means those of other countries’ would have to be increased.
