My first impression: 6 shades of beige and/ or bad songs + Ryk as the only serious choice. His song is quite strong though.

Ryk is the only reason we haven't dropped like a rock in the betting odds. But I have no idea why the bookmakers are confident that he will even be our representative? (Last time he tried he was dead last in the televote) Or they just go with the most promising act and are now cautiously placing us around 10th and wait what happens?

"You and I" was a song which is hard to get, while "Oh boy" catches you at the first moment! So I think, this year he has way better chances to win the German preselection.

But Marie and Max have more people who support them. My only hope is that the Juries place Ryk very high, so that he can win our NF. The televoters will most likely vote more for Marie and Max in case their Fans are still awake around midnight that day. The Juriess will probably support most Ryk and Bodine and partly Max. That's my guess.

I would assume the jury will support Isaak over Bodine. Top 2 of the jury are likely Ryk and Isaac with Max maybe sneaking in at 3rd but the song is so bland, I don't know if the jury will like it despite his vocals. They won't be biased because of who he is.

Genuine question

If acts like Grossstadtgeflüster and Electric Callboy were to represent another German speaking country like Austria or Switzerland per say, and they were to win the televote or even the entire thing, would your broadcaster then realise that they are trash?

I am not sure if you forgot: But Großstadtgeflüster didn't want to apply. xcookie

No. They are not into flags in general. Even i they participated for another country, they wouldn't want any flags around them. It is their political attitude in general.
Okay but answer my question; would your broadcaster realise they're trash if my scenario happened or would they carry on as if nothing's happened

I dont see a path for Ryk at all. He probably wins the jury vote but I expect Mutzke to be 2nd or 3rd there and then he will easily get more televotes unless everyone except the German ESC bubble has gone to bed.

Wasn't a german speaking country but Finland had Cha Cha Cha, a song that was literally inspired by Electric Callboy. And as you can see with our current selection, no, they haven't realized anything 🥲
There were applications that were more experimental, like we could've had a V-Tuber with a Hatsune Miku kind of performance. But once again, NDR played it completely safe, cause that has worked sooo well for us. They probably already had a stroke that they had to send Lord of the Lost (but Blood and Glitter wasn't even really that out there or daring for the genre... and there was 0 blood).

I think they will carry on. But Reim is also complete trash in my eyes. The only quality song is Ryk. So I have no idea why NDR sends 7 more or less dumb songs next to a quality song. They should have chosen Ryk internally instead making such an NF.

So I gave Ryk a second listening.
It's still not my cup of tea, but I admit, it's a song in which a lot of work and thoughts were put in (musically). It's complex in the harmonies and transitions, it's not the easy "let's make a three-chord-song.
I doubt this will grow on me, but I don't find it awful either. But I definitely wouldn't listen to it outside Eurovision.

Still one question arose for me, that I can't really resolve. The lyrics are - as I understand it - a call for the love of a boy. I would have nevertheless assumed that he's referring to someone of his age. Then why did they choose a little child as a pic in the lyric video? It's contradicting the meaning of the song as far as I understood it and raises associations that surely were never intended by Ryk. Or where did I go wrong in understanding the lyrics?

I don't know myself why Ryk is taking this image of a boy. All I know is that it's a song about unrequited love. In the song "Oh Boy" Ryk asks himself the question of where deep friendship ends and love begins. He talks about the shadows in his heart and the uncertainty of his own feelings.

Hopefully he will soon tell us the meaning of this in his interviews. I am curious to know the answer.

He also writes btw:

"My fascination for the competition is unbroken. My passion for big, epic moments is actually made for the ESC. I strive to write that one song and create that one production that captivates millions of people in front of the screen."

Can't wait to see how he will bring his song to life in the NF.

Huh they say that in the article but it's not a quote. Did they make that up or is that really from him?
Then I also wonder why the image of the boy. I assumed it was a picture of him and the song is about self-acceptance and self-love. And the boy he's referring to being his inner child that isn't satisfied with what he came to be (someone that can't love himself), so he's desperate to gain "his" love, which would mean he would finally love and accept himself again.

So that's not it...?!

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the picture. He is from 29.12. till 28.01. on tour with the "Festival der Turnkunst" and I don't think he has an own management for music. So I wouldn't be shocked if the picture is from his son and it was the only picture he had handy when he submitted the song to recordJet.

You mean the head of the broadcaster? I think he doesn't care.
If You mean the delegation under the head, then I wouldn't be shocked if they know allready...

The temptation I had to ask our Düsseldorf office at work to vote for Marie Reim in our zoom call this morning was there :ROFLMAO:

Write it into their contracts!
