Ok, I will give it another try now - listening to the full song for the very first time (I mean, @ESC94 learnt to love it, too)

I must say I'm still pretty happy with the selection since all the rumored acts got included except you-know-who. Notably the diversity is lower than the year before, but on the plus side we don't get the same unnerving controversy as with Lord of the Lost and Ikke. The overall quality of the songs is at least on par with the last years. And we still have to wait for the selection of the wildcard entry.
I'm not going to rank the entries beforehand as my personal experience from last year was that some of them underachieved and some exceeded the expectations when they were live on stage. So here are my first thoughts, and since the negatives have already been discussed at length, I will focus on the positives. In alphabetic order:

Bodine Monet – Tears Like Rain: Powerful, expressive and interesting voice with a good range. She dances in the video and seems to enjoy the song to it's full extent, which can be contagious. The song itself is quite catchy.
GALANT – Katze: Brings some diversity into the selection with an electronic and minimalistic style. Could be mesmerising to watch, just as it could be a unique performance on stage and has the potential to stand out from the competition. The first of only two songs written in German for this competition so far.
ISAAK - Always On The Run: In my eyes the vocal powerhouse in the preselection. His pop song thrives on this energy. Expect some true emotions on stage!
Leona – Undream You: A voice as delicate as a frozen rose and a song about love and longing. What else could you wish for? Contrasts the other loud songs pretty good and therefore stands out, especially with a suitable staging.
Max Mutzke – Forever Strong: Max Mutzke returns to the contest after 20 years, bringing with him all the experience and talent it takes. The song gives him enough room to play with his voice and to express his feelings. The title of the song says it all.
Marie Reim – Naiv: Time to put German Schlager on the eurovision stage. Unique in the preselection and a decent representative of the genre. "Naiv" carries a lot of energy and has a driving rhythm. The second entry in German.
NinetyNine – Love On A Budget: Casual and modern love song. Strong rythm, a nice flow and some catchy parts. Shows great vocal skills without overdoing it.
Ryk – Oh Boy: Returns to the preselection after five years, not without good reason, to say the least. The siren-like sound effects are cool and Ryk's voice with the high notes gives a nice contrast to them. It's an epic, emotional and yet mysterious song which he sings from his heart.

@Looren stop being so positive and enthusiastic about ALL entries Oo

Someone has to stay positive here, there are enough doomers already. :ROFLMAO:
But liking ALL songs and calling them "our little heroes".

My mission is to find out who owns this throw-away account to mess up with the overall atmosphere of doom in the German thread before this NF season ends.

Looren is simply like that, sometimes it´s a bit over the top for me as well but overall I like him. xshrug

Ok, I gave Ryk another try and I was happy when the song finally ends.

Honestly, it gives me the same feeling like Sheldon Riley's entry - it bores me to death whilst some parts freak me out - big time.
On paper, this is a quality entry and clearly very jury-friendly but it's annoying me so, so, so much.

The beginning of the song is eerie and kinda hauntingly beautiful, I have to admit, that I completely lose it after the first 30 seconds. I think I just hate his singing voice when he reaches his upper register/vocal range. Ryk's vocal gymnastics destroy the whole song for me. I immediately want to turn off when the "ooooh ooooh OOOHS" arrive and his production is way too muddy for me to enjoy.

It really bothers me that the huge favourite of the German fans is my last place in this NF - I don't think it has ever happened to me before (I don't count the 2017 NF because both songs were utterly tasteless and horrendous - no matter who sang it).
So overall, it's still a :0: from me.

Michael Schulte wasn't last on my ranking in the German NF, though and I think that Ivy was a huge favourite (thinking of the hardcore Eurovision fans) - at least, that's what I thought after attending some Eurovision events/Stammtische at that time.

To be fair, 2018 wasn't a strong NF either and I didn't watch it.

I rather think that Max or Marie will make it in February. Their fanbase is quite huge.
the biggest fanbase in whole germany still have the cats - then dogs - then tiktokmovements like a dance (maybe ) - so we will get a battle with many catowners involved - wetten das?

Yeah not unlikely, it's quite the open field. We need to remember this year there is a 50% jury vote and no online voting. So a fanbase will only benefit you, if they are actually watching. But people that casually enjoy your music and follow you on social media won't automatically change their plans for a friday night to watch a poorly produced national final till midnight to vote for you.

I really have no clue who is going to take it. I actually now hope it's Ryk because he will get a good jury score. Even if he gets 0 televotes the jury will not ignore his song, they gave "Eaea", "Boys do cry", "Not the same" a good amount of points and I can't imagine that they wouldn't treat "Oh Boy" the same. Ryk is the key to leave the bottom 5, the jury will carry him.
I would enjoy the Schadenfreude if NDR flops yet again but at the same time we need to break the last place curse or less and less decent artist will apply to represent us. It will turn into a self-fullfilling prophecy.

I wouldn't count a lot of them out from taking it tbh. While Marie and Max are the biggest names that didn't mean much in past national finals. Unheilig and Santiano lost against Elaiza. And Max has a terrible song, I doubt that even his fans will feel that passionate about it. And I don't see Marie getting a lot of jury support.

Who I would say is definitely NOT going to represent us is NinetyNine, Galant and Leona. Bodine Monet is also not that likely.
