Hello to all friends of the Germany Thread. I waited for the songs to be released before commenting again. But I have always been present here reading you and observing a pleasant beer hall atmosphere: between laughter, tears, nervousness and seeing one or two best friends healing the wounds with their smile. The most successful Thread, precisely because of this condensation of emotions, is the German one.
Now I will give my opinions. I hope that no one will feel offended by my words. I'll be as direct as a wax strip.
Let me start by saying that I concentrated on listening to the German songs without any prejudice, without expectations and with the sole desire to leave room for first impressions, emotions and whether or not the sound/voice could be able to involve me.
The ranking starting from last place:
8. Ryk: his song even worse than "Katze". Not so much from a qualitative point of view and not even so much because of the voice but because it reminded me of Mailk Harris and that climate of candy-flavored nostalgia... If I think that "Rockstars" was a more decisive song than this one by Ryk I feel like crying. It lacks the fundamental element: emotional energy. Useful for falling asleep in the evening. It will no longer be necessary to count sheep but to listen to "Oh Boy".
7. Leona: American singer-songwriter with a cloud-like voice who expresses sweet, deep feelings. Not bad but not memorable. Precisely because of her non-memorability I included it under "Katze".
6. Galant: Disappointing. Although the sound tries to be engaging and the artists have carefully constructed it, it is dated... Galant's voice mixed with the sound creates a parody effect - a stereotype of bad German musical taste. It gives the idea, unfair and not true, to a foreigner of the type of music that only a German fan might like. I save Galant only because, even if the song is mediocre, it has a soul. Just one question, it's okay that it's a filler song from the NF but out of all the applications received, wasn't there anything better?
5. NinetyNine: Ed Sheeran vibes mix with sounds that I would see as a good filler for a Melodifestivalen. Overall, it is pleasant but doesn't have the strength to reach the top.
4. Isak: second song that I expect at the Melodifestivalen but contender, if not for the victory, for the top ranking. I'm starting to understand that Germany took a lot of inspiration from Sweden. Isak initially surprised me. The song starts off well, it's energetic but in the long run it's like a dog chasing its tail. Listening to it you have the sense of always eating the same chocolatey flavour. I don't understand the fuss over Isak but the world isn't just how Paco sees it. I've thought about it and maybe Isak could be one of the right contenders to get Germany out of the Bottom 5.
3. Bodine: On the podium I include Bodine, bronze medal. It's a typical song that I expect to be a contender to win the Melodifestivalen or as an ESC choice of Estonia, Latvia and Cyprus (who seem to really love this kind of songs and this way of singing). Qualitatively it's good but for me personally it doesn't manage to turn me on like most of the Swedish ESC songs. I don't deny that he could do well at ESC but we're always talking about Under 15s.
2. Max Mutzke: I don't know, at first listen the song seems to me to be close to that Bryan Adams type of music or that modern American country pop. Already tasted sauce. However, it is pleasant and Max manages to convey emotions well with a good voice. Is Germany taking advantage of the famous "Shulte Card"?
1. Naiv: welcome to the early 90s fair where the music of the Eighties blends with more disco sounds. Yet this passage is the most convincing. It's in the original language, Naiv has a beautiful voice and the rhythm is engaging. Qualitatively the best choice for Malmö.
These are my comments. May the best man win. Now it's all in the hands of the German fans.
