alright so i listened to all of them aswell...

Max Mutzke: his voice is great but this song is very very veeery dull and boring, if germany selects this (and i'm afraid they could based on his name and history), it's a contender for last place for sure. (2/10)

Marie Reim: not my style, in this selection though it's at least kind of catchy (for what it is). i personally cannot do with her voice it makes me really uncomfortable. still this is the 2nd song that i think has a chance to get votes from the german public. she's a star in the schlager scene and germans like their schlager, right? :/ (7/10)

NinetyNine: i actually kind of like this, it's cute and the chorus is quite catchy but this is not made for eurovision, i don't think it would make a huge impact and i don't think it has a huge chance of getting selected (5/10)

Galant: ok i generally like this style a lot, the cold electronics with german lyrics - but this doesn't go anywhere and the cat sounds are rather stupid. overall this is not working for me, it wants to be cool but it ends up a little cringe... (3/10)

Isaak: not bad, the raspy voice reminds me of lewis capaldi and the ending is quite energetic but still for me there is something missing. i wouldn't rule this out but i don't find it very convincing either. (6/10)

Bodine Monet: all a bit meh. nothing to really dislike but nothing to really enjoy either. (4/10)

Leona: it's lovely, she has a cute voice, melody is nice-ish but that's where it ends. not very special and not convincing unfortunately (5/10)

Ryk: i think this is the song i connect to the most, i kind of like ryks dramatic way of singing and it's interesting, the melody is haunting, the structure is a bit complicated and i think if they did that differently the song could be much more impactful. personally this would be my favourite in this selection but honestly i don't expect the german public to enjoy it / understand it / vote for it. "you and i" was "catchy" in comparison and it did really bad in the voting if i remember correctly. but yea if i had to make a choice this would be it (8,5/10)

i'm curious about the wildcard act, generally the wildcard acts do great in germany it seems so why not this time

Hello to all friends of the Germany Thread. I waited for the songs to be released before commenting again. But I have always been present here reading you and observing a pleasant beer hall atmosphere: between laughter, tears, nervousness and seeing one or two best friends healing the wounds with their smile. The most successful Thread, precisely because of this condensation of emotions, is the German one.

Now I will give my opinions. I hope that no one will feel offended by my words. I'll be as direct as a wax strip.

Let me start by saying that I concentrated on listening to the German songs without any prejudice, without expectations and with the sole desire to leave room for first impressions, emotions and whether or not the sound/voice could be able to involve me.

The ranking starting from last place:

8. Ryk: his song even worse than "Katze". Not so much from a qualitative point of view and not even so much because of the voice but because it reminded me of Mailk Harris and that climate of candy-flavored nostalgia... If I think that "Rockstars" was a more decisive song than this one by Ryk I feel like crying. It lacks the fundamental element: emotional energy. Useful for falling asleep in the evening. It will no longer be necessary to count sheep but to listen to "Oh Boy".

7. Leona: American singer-songwriter with a cloud-like voice who expresses sweet, deep feelings. Not bad but not memorable. Precisely because of her non-memorability I included it under "Katze".

6. Galant: Disappointing. Although the sound tries to be engaging and the artists have carefully constructed it, it is dated... Galant's voice mixed with the sound creates a parody effect - a stereotype of bad German musical taste. It gives the idea, unfair and not true, to a foreigner of the type of music that only a German fan might like. I save Galant only because, even if the song is mediocre, it has a soul. Just one question, it's okay that it's a filler song from the NF but out of all the applications received, wasn't there anything better?

5. NinetyNine: Ed Sheeran vibes mix with sounds that I would see as a good filler for a Melodifestivalen. Overall, it is pleasant but doesn't have the strength to reach the top.

4. Isak: second song that I expect at the Melodifestivalen but contender, if not for the victory, for the top ranking. I'm starting to understand that Germany took a lot of inspiration from Sweden. Isak initially surprised me. The song starts off well, it's energetic but in the long run it's like a dog chasing its tail. Listening to it you have the sense of always eating the same chocolatey flavour. I don't understand the fuss over Isak but the world isn't just how Paco sees it. I've thought about it and maybe Isak could be one of the right contenders to get Germany out of the Bottom 5.

3. Bodine: On the podium I include Bodine, bronze medal. It's a typical song that I expect to be a contender to win the Melodifestivalen or as an ESC choice of Estonia, Latvia and Cyprus (who seem to really love this kind of songs and this way of singing). Qualitatively it's good but for me personally it doesn't manage to turn me on like most of the Swedish ESC songs. I don't deny that he could do well at ESC but we're always talking about Under 15s.

2. Max Mutzke: I don't know, at first listen the song seems to me to be close to that Bryan Adams type of music or that modern American country pop. Already tasted sauce. However, it is pleasant and Max manages to convey emotions well with a good voice. Is Germany taking advantage of the famous "Shulte Card"?

1. Naiv: welcome to the early 90s fair where the music of the Eighties blends with more disco sounds. Yet this passage is the most convincing. It's in the original language, Naiv has a beautiful voice and the rhythm is engaging. Qualitatively the best choice for Malmö.

These are my comments. May the best man win. Now it's all in the hands of the German fans.

Ryk - Oh Boy 7.3/10
Marie Reim - Naiv 6.7/10
Bodine Monet - Tears like rain 3.6/10
NinetyNine - Love on a Budget 2.8/10
Leona - Undream You 2.5/10
Max Mutzke - Forever strong 2.3/10
Isaak - Always on the run 1.6/10
Galant - Katze 1.3/10

Short Reviews:

Ryk: Surprisingly powerful instant Melody. Couldnt forget it after 1st Listen. Wont do too well in the TV probably.
Marie Reim: Not a big Schlagerfan, but thats really good. Would finally be something that really represents our Country.
Bodine Monet: Typical harmless Radiosong without any Impact and Potential at Eurovision. But not too bad.
NinetyNine: Is it me or is the Mix horrible? Anyway..pretty meh...
Leona: No instant Appeal, no immediate Impact, no memorable Chorus... Elsie Bay is a One-Hit-Wonder. Her Momentum is over.
Max Mutzke: Already forgot about it.
Isaak: The Song is generic and exchangable as it can get. Couldnt finish.
Galant: One of the worst Songs of the whole Season. Couldnt finish it.

Have you just listened to the snippets or the whole songs?
Taking inspiration from your video, I only listened to snippets. Don't underestimate the power of the first few seconds of a song. Just as a literary novel must be able to fascinate from the first pages to stimulate continued reading, the same goes for music. Or, to understand if a boy has talent you don't need to make him sing a 4 minute song, a skilled music academy selector understands it from the first intonation. It is not always necessary to listen to everything from beginning to end. It is true that music is emotion but it is also a science of production. The beginning, in this Spotify era, must capture and give expectations that lead you to the refrain, to wanting to continue enjoying the apple. I recommend you follow the documentary "Chic". They explain their method and enlighten you on how music is an intimate expression but must also be constructed to captivate the public.

Still at ESC most of the people who will vote will listen to the whole song, so it's not done with a snippet. But now I understand your weird ranking. xcookie
