I've been in mourning since the German National Final (Ryk would be my #1 of the entire contest) but I have to say Isaak did an amazing job yesterday, he elevated his song and his vocals were on point. I hope he finishes far far away from last place.
Same here. Still suffering inside that Ryk didn't make it. AOTR isn't for me at all. Isaak did the best he could, but when looking at other performances, I have to admit that I am jealous. Will we ever have a competitive song the upcoming years? I am a huge ESC Fan and can cheer for other countries just as much, but it would be nice once in a while to be able to stand behind our song.

Ryk would be it :(
But at the same time... a few German entries in the last decade deserved a much much better result than what they got. Ann-Sophie, Malik and Lord of the Lost come to mind :(

If he can perform with the same voice on Saturday, this might end up in the middle of the table with the juries. Combined with a bit 0 from televote, I hope this can reach top 20 somehow.

I stopped hoping for that a long time ago when I realized that we do have one or two competitive songs in every NF that always get ignored by the German public. They will always go for the underdog, the down-to-earth approach. Any kind of interesting performance is appalling to them.

I guess we can only hope the Stefan Raab Comeback rumors are true, or that something similar happens. We need a NF german artists want to compete in, more voters than the "ARD at night" watchers, and more competent people involved with the pre-selections.

That's why I want to see rather an internal selection. Yes, we had Jendrik, but there was also Ben Dolic , at least the most modern attempt we had so far. I simply don't trust the German public anymore to choose something different than radio-pop-songs.

That would be too good to be true, but honestly doubt that it will happen next year. Unless ... we get the last place again. Imagine we make it to the 21st or 22nd place. NDR would say: Improvement! *irony off*

Fair enough but tbh Ben had zero stage presence ...

Oh - 'Ghost'. So robbed. But it's another one of those clever mid-tempo pop songs that always seem to be in danger of being overlooked (especially if the live vocal performance isn't perfect). I can see Poland suffering from the same phenomenon this year.
I only just found this post and feel seen. Ghost is my favourite last place Eurovision entry.

:uk: now also overtook us in the odds for last place. Imagine us coming in on 24th ... that would be like Christmas and Easter on one day. :ROFLMAO:

This has to be a very sad Christmas though. :ROFLMAO:

LotL weren´t last in the odds last year either btw.

Starting position 3, before us Sweden and Ukraine, after us Luxembourg and Netherlands.
A few years ago I would have said this is an absolute death spot, but by now it probably doesn't matter any more.

It really doesn't matter where we are placed. The only thing we can hope for are some pity Jury points, but I even doubt that by now. An impressive voice doesn't mean we get points when the song itself and the staging are weak. Might be possible to take the last place again, but actually I don't care. We really need a fresh new start. Hope Raab comes back or Böhmermann takes over or whoever who REALLY wants to do the job.

Super voice superbly sung, but the 'homeless barrel fire messed up' -look will probably not endear the Eurovision party goers.

I've rated this song above average in a season that has been very disappointing. It's a song in the same category as Denmark's - slightly more boring, but better performed, so that evens it out, more or less.

I want midtempo songs to be able to do well at Eurovision. The mix of freaky songs on the one had and dull ballads on the other is becoming a nightmare.

One of my favourite music channels did an analysis of the song. If anyone's interested in a more theory-based approach, can only recommend (in German tho).
