Honestly, if Germany wanted to attract jury votes and send a capable singer, sending Isaak is inferior to Max's choice. Even if "Forever Strong" was agony, Max's voice and experience and the effect of his return to the Eurovisual stage would have garnered a little more points from the jury and the public. Germany also managed to follow the wrong path in the "safe choice".
What made all the German fans depressed for me is the lack of courage. Isaak is worse than Newman. Where the second, in its lack of flavor, did not suggest a collapse, Isaak seems the living representation of a condemnation already announced. However, I advise German fans not to abandon Isaak. He does not deserve to be taken to execution on Mount Golgotha. He is your representative and even if it is the most disappointing choice you must support him because he will fight for you and is putting his career on the line.
The bold choices for the ESC were Ryk or Bodine. Choices always from the right side of the scoreboard but which would have given a glimpse of a Germany that was not musically surrendered. With Ryk we could work more on the emotional side while with Bodine a little more on the sound.
In my opinion, Germany has taken a step back from the path taken with Malik Harris and LOTL. They weren't great competitors but there was a hint of quality.
From next season Germany must follow the path of France and choose an internal singer. You could fish out Lena (exploiting a "Loreen effect") and give her a good song to perform; or Ben Dolic was brought back, who had given a glimpse of something good with "Violent Thing". Who else? You could aim for a big name but it's difficult for German stars to take risks at the moment. France, maintaining the comparison, before focusing on Slimane, comes from an average positive trail with "Voilà", "Fulenn" and "Evidemment" (the last two songs, even if they collected little, were products with their own originality).
I don't know what else to think. I don't understand how a rich nation, with one of the strongest music markets and with solid foundations, leaving aside classical music, in Rock can offer such a desolate panorama. In these years, before Europe rediscovered its comic streak with the Moldovans, Käärijää, Joost Klein and Baby Fettuccine, why didn't Germany try? It was the right genre to launch very young artists. Well, even the joking genre could be one of the choices that can be adopted but now I fear that Europe risks falling into habit and after this edition we will at least have to wait two or three editions to recharge the surprise effect for the joking entries.
A warm greeting to the German fans. For me among the warmest fans in Europe when it comes to Eurovision Song Contest. You deserve more.
