I'd voted 10 times as promised, sad it had no effect in our televote, and really sad for the band, they all are truly wonderful people.
As for the reasons, this year was really skewn televote-wise. Only 7 countries got more than 100 from the televote, the big faves just sucked most of the available points from the pool and everyone else found themselves fighting over the few remaining scraps. This was not about Europe hating :de: (:uk: and :es: could think the same, but last year proved otherwise), this was about Europe really loving the top faves, and Finland being one of those.
Also, in general, I think the target metal audience might not always be thrilled with the borderline drag styling, perhaps dressing everyone in Marco's hot pants could have helped... But of course, that's just my perception of the average metalhead that might be completely wrong.

All in all, retirement is in order - for the responsible heads from your broadcaster - and it was in order a long time ago. This is not about LotL, the group could have easily made the left hand side of the scoreboard in a different year and is the best damn thing you have sent in a long time. It's about the overall trend of recent years where you otherwise select inoffensive songs few people can be bothered to vote for.

Personally I hope that next year they would limit the preselection to songs completely sung in German. Maybe even a typical Schlager song and I am saying it as someone who usually don't listen to them. At least then the song will stand out a bit more and when it likely still gets last, at least it will represent Germany better. The last time Germany sent a song not in English was in 2007 which is just ridiculous. Also if it is not some English stuff again, maybe it will have at least better success in Germany itself. A lot of the songs in recent years were not even truly popular in Germany. Whoever represents Germany deserves at least huge success at home.

I still don't understand how this song got 3 points from juries and Australia 130. :cautious:
Australia is far more accessible, at least for me. I never quite connected with Blood & Glitter and it has sit the whole pre-ESC season around 24th ish so for me it's not a very surprising result.

Australia is mainstream hard rock, which can also please softened juries for whom LOTL is too hard.

If we had nominated Electric Callboy last year, the Finn wouldn't have had a chance in 2023, but you can tell from the Finns what a sh.. the NDR has done there, unforgivable.

Well, I'm not a fan of either song. Although, I was watching both performances again today and I ended up singing blood and glitter the whole day while cleaning. Can't get it out of my head.
But it doesn't matter, because we're not talking about televoters, but about jury.
I don't think there's a good reason for such a big difference in points quality wise if we are watching them together as some sort of similar genre (in Eurovision sense where you don't get those very often).
I would get a smaller difference in points, but 130 and 3?!

Oh yeah, the jury fucked up there, as in many other cases.

Australia

a) won the semi so juries felt it was a safe bet to please fans
(They definitely know the results, that’s why Sweden and Finland were almost the only countries whose juries didn’t give Australia a single point. They suspected it would be their biggest "opponent" since they won Semi 2. Juries are so predictable, it’s ridiculous!)

b) it was unknown if Australia was to return next year so of course they gathered some points only for that.

I do wonder if they are going to continue with the national final format or go back to internal selection. Even though I'm a fan of national finals, maybe it would be better to go for an internal selection for a while. I would love to see someone like Iveta. I want our country to send a bop for once. We never had something like what Israel had this year.

I get that point. But LOTL has fans all over the world, it’s a bit suspicious we did SO bad in the televote. I expected zero points from the juries; surprised we got some at all. But low televote wasn’t expected. Metal bands all over the world did promo for LOTL. I saw hundreds of messages from all over the world in different Metal communities I’m in where people promised to vote. They arranged like they did with Lordi back then and it worked back then. Gal Gadot promo'd Israel and they did well in the televote. I never expected Germsny to win, even top 10 was a bold move to expect. But higher than 20th? Definitely! most experts in reaction videos, on wiwi on ESC United, press polls etc. also said so.

Just a reminder that Iveta already tried to represent Germany in a year we had an internal selection and the NDR in the end chose JENDRIK
