They looked so sad even before their televote was read out, and worse after.

I really thought this would do well with televote. Not sure what went wrong.

Here are my thoughts:

- rock music was just not popular this year
- lyrics with "blood" and "we so happy we could die" in times of a cruel war in Europe were maybe seen as inappropriate
- coming directly after the dynamic performance of  didn´t help either

But these are just theories, we´ll never know.

The current streak with the Michael Schulte exception is really unprecedented in terms of how awful it is. I remember we struggled in the late 00s, but Miss Kiss Kiss Bang results would be a dream right now.

Underperforming with the televote is one thing - happens to a lot of countries. The televote No. 10 is just 40 points away from Germany. But it's striking how bad we do with the juries each year. Now LOTL was obviously not the right act for juries, but I really think it's the easiest(?), only(?) way to get a 'decent' middle of the road placement. Now not saying this is what one should aim for, of course you need crossover appeal to win and all, but when I look at something like Estonia this year or Cyprus. We can send something like that too right?? Maybe we should get a competent singer and buy ourselves some random foreign pop again. :ROFLMAO:

@mauve

i've never expected last place again but the ESC-votingsystem is often very harsh - this act was germany best since lovely lena and for me personally also elaiza - i don't care about the result - the lords have delievered and got spanked - so what, lives goes on.
xcheers

p.s. @german language people - see you hopefully in next weeks at the best ever SCC (second chance contest) from esc-kompakt blog.
Well, how am I doing? After sleeping hours ... I am okay, I guess? But honestly it was a shock. Not the Juries' result (I expected that), but I hoped for more televotes. Actually I am really okay, but for me personally it was the best entry Germany send the past years, but I am really, REALLY sad for LOTL. They invested so much, were so happy to be a part (you could see it with them doing all the cover songs, ect), for Chris and for Pi it was a childhood dream. And for them finishing last must be emotionally devestating and heartbreaking. I am crying FOR THEM, not for me. Knowing that Sisters, Jendrik and Malik being last is one thing, but LOTL also finishing last makes my heart weep.
I wish that LOTL knows that we appreciate them very much and that we support them all the way. I hope they know that they are loved!
For me personally, I am really happy that I got to know LOTL. A band I will follow from now on! xheart

Their faces in the green room broke my heart. They had put so much into it and in my opinion were great positive ambassadors for Germany at Eurovision. I can't watch the performance or voting sequence again, it's too sad.

For now I can't watch it either, but with time I will watch the performance again because I know that there are many LOTL-Fans who support and feel with them. That helps!

Yes I hope that they can take something positive from the experience and have gained new fans.

Their social media post was quite "positive" - they were grateful for the experience and loved being part of Eurovision and are looking forward to being on tour again/very soon.

I think finishing last/not advancing the final hurts newcomers way more.

Lord Of The Lost can close that chapter, take the memorable experiences and funny moments from it and go back to their very successful career(s).

Levina, Jamie-Lee or Ann-Sophie had "nothing to go back to" (in terms of career, projects) and they had been struggling for some time or even years to cope with the whole situation, e.g. Ann-Sophie didn´t even have the strength to be on stage again for years.

Thing is … there was zero energy on stage.
It was not zero but it wasn’t a 100 neither. It’s Dietmann again with his boring concepts. Different composition of lights and camera angles would have helped. Austria, Armenia, Georgia were also praised and then looked static. Armenia 2022 was a staging fiasco and went on to became a global hit.

Switzerland on the other hand got an exciting staging for a safe song and got more points ultimately.

This was a huge surprise for me coming dead last! Honestly, whilst their music isn't my thing, I thought this would be top 10 at least really, it gave me that vibe-excellent staging, a popular band, spot on vocals. What the actual hell can Germany do now? They've sent something decent and it still ended up bottom.

That's it. I think it is time for us to leave for now. Eurovision Song Contest is basically a wonderful competition but it seems like the European aversion against Germany goes beyond musical aspects and I don't know why is that. Don't know what we are doing wrong tbh. Maybe it is just not a competition we fit in.
Anyway, if we stay (which we will anyway) we should stick to genres in which Germans have been a long and good tradition, even if we keep flopping. I felt very comfortable with us being represented by a hard rock band. It felt German and it was genuine compared to the nonsense we rightly flopped with in the years before (thinking of Jendrik or Jamie Lee, lol)

No-don't withdraw! Maybe give another broadcaster a go at Eurovision and see what they can do? It's how I feel about Ireland too.

Man, I didn't even like this song and I'm still disappointed. LOTL seem like such great guys, and I really thought that their sound and style would stand out and get Germany out of the bottom 5. I really worry what this will mean for the future of German songs, will it be another 5 years of blandery? I fear NDR will use this as 'proof' that going outside the box doesn't succeed. What does Germany need to do well? What was it that Michael Schulte had that broke the curse for that one year?
