For sure things can change in the next three weeks and there is always one or two surprises in the end but as for now I really don’t see how Germany could gather the points necessary to make it out of the bottom six. At least for now I don’t see any evidence that points towards a „is doing much better than expected“-scenario.

Thing is some people in here who like the song (which is fair enough, no shade) seem a little delusional at times.
O trust, I read an article that talked about them potentially winning or being Top 5. That's just full on delusion.
Personally I mostly see predictions with a range between 15 - 22, which is including a bottom 6 finish.

But there are reeeally weak songs this year, thanks to the imbalance of the semis, some really weak ones from Semi 2 will make their way into the GF, that's why I can see that LOTL have a better chance to not end up dead last.

I never said that, it was just a simple diagnosis that your projections failed really hard.

lol, it can happen.
I was the one last year who said Austria will fail and NQ because to me, Halo seemed like a trainwreck from the beginning.
I also said Denmark would be a good opener in Semi 2 before the running order was released and it happened.
I could name various predictions of mine which happend.
We all make predictions that don’t happen in the end. It’s all speculation, that’s why we‘re here. I don’t see anything wrong in it. I predict stuff like anyone else here. Some come true, others don‘t.

But I don't think you can call a 0-pointer a "perfect Eurovision song" though

Well, obviously I can and I did. :ROFLMAO:
What’s wrong with you guys trying to tell me I CAN‘T this or that? After all it‘s MY personal opinion and it’s subjective. And even if every single European inhabitant gave it zero points I could still think it’s a perfect Eurovision song. And for me it’s a perfect Eurovision song, that’s why I call it perfect Eurovision song.

The person who penned that article must have never watched Eurovision before then.

This is a rather weak year, I agree but I still cannot see a scenario in which Germany finishing any better than 22nd. I do agree that they will not finish dead last. The whole thing is not meh enough for that but I still fail to see where the big points are supposed to come from.

Since when is thinking a song could end up between 10 and 20 delusional? I haven‘t read anyone here thinking LOTL will come top 10, except for me jokingly saying „maybe top 10 televote?“ with a smiley after.
For German entries anything other than a bottom 6 placement seems utopian especially if, as I pointed out, all the indicators point towards another bad result.

It can go either way (at least in the televote - I don’t think anyone here expects a great jury result). But then again, this could be said about (almost) any song.
The only song which will almost 100% do well in both is Sweden, imho.

There´s no single valid indication that they will finish Bottom 5... because of the Betting Odds?
Germany is at #20 right now - the highest country with "<1% chance of winning" ALL countries outside the Top 10 (even Italy which is #11 right now) have "1 or <1% chance of winning".
Outside the Top 5, the betting odds are meaningless at this point and no one in this thread was "delusional" to think of :de: reaching Top 5. We really need to be really, really lucky to finish lower Top 10 (like :md: last year but I don´t believe that Lord Of The Lost will reach so many points in the televoting).

Who cares about charts? Dark Rock/that kind of metal is a niche genre - they don´t appear on streaming/radio charts.
However, the parent album "Blood & Glitter" debuted and peaked at #1 on the German album chart. Show me a German entrant who reached this with their latest release which parent the current German entry before.
Saying that there´s "no demand" or "interest" in Germany for Lord Of The Lost is simply false/wrong.

Personally, I think that from #11 to #26 is all possible - I hope for a mid-table result but it´s Eurovision and you´ll never know but Germany is not "doomed" at all and clearly, coming up with meaningless betting odds and "chart success/views" doesn´t validate your opinion/predicition either.

"Rockstars" was a massive radio hit here in Germany (which was forced) and yet, Germany finished last in Eurovision.

Did anyone really expect WDR, 1Live to suddenly play "Blood & Glitter"? - I´m even surprised that they even played it a few times and invited Chris Harms to talk about the band, ESC, etc.

Get ready for some drama...
Ikke is basically accusing the German broadcaster of manipulating the national final, along other accusations.

This is the statement by "Ikke" (in German): https://www.facebook.com/1000444648...Uaex4tXZENqANomxRY8PuTfpmUUCHeXTNyBl/?app=fbl

I don't know, I think a lot of what's written there super interesting and worth pointing out, and it's great that a bigger voice than just the usual fanbase speaks out about NDR's incompetence. Even regarding the toxic fanbase, which is also what I noticed here on the forum. Tolerance for me, but not for thee.
Shockingly low media presence, considering this is a preselection to one of the biggest events of the year; one act getting into the final due to "muh connections"; 2 million budget for such a non-event with abysmal sound while the acts themselves get paid close to nothing... of course hard to prove when those "insiders" want to stay anonymous, but they'd probably lose their jobs for speaking out.

I'd say it's more valid to look at the numbers we actually have than to just say "We're gonna finish somewhere in the middle" because I feel that way. xshrug
Fact is: There is zero hype for our entry.

That´s not what I wrote.

Songs which got 1% of winning chances don´t have a bigger "hype" than our entry because of getting that 0.X% on betting odds.

You can´t compare a dark rock/metal song to pop songs when it comes to single charts/streaming/airplay.

What did you expect? The general public suddenly raving over a metal song because it won our NF? Radio stations playing "Blood & Glitter" which make us suffer listening to Ed Sheeran and Nico Santos once per hour?

We´ve got 37 songs in the competition and apart form a few fan favourites, most entries don´t get any "hype", either - that´s why apart from the betting odd´s Top 10, all other 27 songs have "1 or <1% chance of winning". I refer back to "more valid numbers we actually have" but they are meaningless outside the current Top 5.

Right now, "Solo" :pl: is INSIDE the Top 5 of most streamed Eurovision 2023 entries.. Do you really believe that there´s some "hype" when it comes to :pl: this year and that we can take this as some sort of "indication" that the song will perform well?

Streaming numbers, bettings odds are cute to look at ... they give a better picture on what´s popular now (among fans and bookies - maybe a few local streams).

I think an album at #1 and RE ENTERING the charts at #1 speaks for itself. Their albums before were also top 10 iirc. There is a certain hype for B & G! Of course it’s the metal bubble in first place but the overall reactions on social media are quite positive. It’s not overhyped, for sure. But many people, especially from Germany, are hyped because it’s something WE wanted to represent us. It’s a dark horse, for sure. Not for winning or top 10 but maybe for doing much better than the odds or some forum members let it look like.

Views, streams, chart performance, odds, fan rankings ... it's undeniable that these numbers ALTOGETHER are at least indicators for a certain "hype". While there are examples for countries that came completely out of left field, it is way more likely that the songs with good numbers are actually the ones doing well in the contest itself. You can deny that all you want but that doesn't change the fact that the majority is not giving a damn about the German entry.

I have really no idea why people now discuss if some of us have too high expectations. Did anyone of us say that we expect a top 10 or top 15? Good heavens! Are we not allowed to be happy for once that we have an entry we root for? Or are people trying to make us sour? It is JUST ESC and yes - I LOVE LOTL and keep all my fingers crossed for these really cool guys. May they rock the stage in May, no matter how it ends! xheart

You know me, I´m not really into that kind of music but I´m happy you can support an entry with all your passion. :)

They show what´s popular right now in a certain field (e.g. bookies, fans, Spotify listeners in certain countries) - that´s true.

They still don´t picture a valid prediction, e.g. back in 2018, :bg: was #2 in the betting odds; :sm: 2021 was massively hyped amongst fans and press alike.
I´m not saying that songs which perform well on Spotify, YouTube, Fan rankings will perform badly next month - I just think that not being hyped by fans and bookies alike means that a song has to finish bottom 5! - There´s a lot in between (#8-#21) and honestly, there´s not much of a difference at the betting odds... we all know what most fan rankings look like... just look at OGAE polls... most countries have the same Top 4 every time and talking about streams.... a pop song winning a Nordic NF (in which most people follow the NF over weeks) will get more streams than a NDR-produced show most people didn´t care about.
Honestly, "Blood & Glitter" has performed well for a metal song so far (Top 40 Spotify Charts, #2 Viral Chart, #5 German Trend Chart, #5 Download Chart,).

Right now, it#s #16 on the streaming chart of "all 37 Eurovision entries" - that´s not "that bad".

What you say about streams is not "wrong", etc. but it´s wrong to say that this is an "indication" that :de: will finish Bottom 5 - since the numbers are not as bad as you present them.

We don´t need some hype, we don´t need the general public and the hardcore gay Eurovision fanbase or British bookies to like our entry.
We need some metalheads and casual viewers of ESC next month to pick up their phones. It can definitely end like :fi: 2008 but I think that "Blood & Glitter" is more accessible and their looks/staging will be more memorable (they are basically a bit camp as well).
So who knows... #16 (as the streaming numbers suggests) or #20 (as the betting odds "predict" even though they say that all songs outside the Top 10 have 1% winning chances or less and thus, :de: is basically #11 and #37 in the betting odds simultaneously right now) is possible - and everything above or below as well.. but who cares... finally we got a song which is not a surefire (second to) last ranked entry.
