Blind Channel and Måneskin were better quality, more serious rock bands. And Blind Channel had that nordic goth vibe.

I loved Blind Channel and I think their song was better than Blood & Glitter.
I didn’t love Maneskin‘s song but I loved their performance.
Lord of the Lost has better songs in their portfolio than Blood & Glitter, yet B & G is an awesome song!

Yet the whole package is perfect! This is suited for Eurovision. I don’t think we‘re getting better than 15th tbh but if this comes last I don’t know. It’s catchy, it has glitter, it has high energy performance. There was such a small stage tonight, it will look better on a bigger stage.

I am happy it’s not Ikke, and LotL had one of the best performances tonight. That doesn’t say much however. We all watched the show, nearly all of them fell apart. Was it the performers fault? I hope not, and I also think it wasn’t. The Sound mixing and everything was severely lacking for at least the second year in a row and if that wasn’t a sign to FINALLY Change the Production Company, I don’t know what is. Also, we Need to get back to the arenas to have this show. And wtf was that public vote? The Jury vote was actually understandable to a degree (for a NF) even though I wouldn’t say it was 100% fair, but like c‘mon, you could see that it was basically just a Fan vote (of mostly the Top 2 acts), probably because of the Time of the broadcast, and while it had a happy ending, I want to go back to a time where also casual viewers Watch and vote. The result might not always be pleasing but I want people to be interested and to take Part in the selection.

Yeah, the contestants always sound so bad in our national final, it's definitely partially the sound. But I think it's also the fact we had quite a few newcomers recently, struggling with nerves and sometimes have never really performed anywhere. So probably a mix of it all, and then a routined band like LOTL can really show off (even though Chris Harms can certainly sound better too).

but my god those jury votes (minus Finland) were a massive scam

you could tell NDR were trying to push some of those artists

I'm happy for all the Ikke fearing Germans that you avoided a disaster. I was confused by all the worry at first but after the performances tonight, his staging stood out, not to mention those rabid fans in the hall were alarming. But it all turned out ok in the end. Special mention to @Mainshow who introduced me to Lord of the Lost a couple of years ago at WorldVision. I'm especially delighted for you.

Having said all that though. I'm not super excited right now. This rocks too softly for me. I can certainly enjoy cheesy poppy metal tracks like this one, and I don't mind it at all, but right now I'm just a bit nonchalant with it which is not how I want to be feeling with a metal track . I think in time it might grow on me if I give it a chance, and the band are a perfect fit for Eurovision, so to speak. Their kind of camp has the potential to go down well enough I imagine, at least with the public.

For now I'll go :6: points.

Thank you for reaching out to me! Lord Of The Lost have better song in their discography if you ask me but I still love "Blood & Glitter". Maybe it will grow on you (but I wish it was a bit heavier as well).

A pity ESCunited didn´t appreciate it that much at WorldVision back in the day :D

Seriously, I would have loved ALL entrants to be above René and Will! - I can´t believe the juries voted for the most generic and bland songs again (Will´s voice is phenomenal and absolutely amazing but he needs to come back with a less cheesy and generic ballad .. and René sounded horribly live (in the verses)).

It’s crazy. In a year where I am - so far - not too enthusiastic about most songs and didn’t like all of the potential winners Germany finally sends a good song I can root for and just be happy it takes part no matter the outcome. It lights up the GF for me since I have no big fave to win (except for my own country though it won’t happen of course).

AWS was not melodic enough plus didn't have such a remarkable chorus.

After ALEKSEEV hand´t qualified for the final, AWS were my favourite and I voted for them like crazy - I loved the heaviness of the song as well as his screams but it´s kinda strang to compare AWS and Lord Of The Lost - I know that there´s a band member playing the guitar - but rock has as many layers and different genres as pop music.

"Blood & Glitter" is basically synth-pop with metal elements (and a few grunts/screams).

I'm not sure if I read that or imagined it lol but I think the jury votes were based on a rehearsal? Maybe René had a better performance yesterday because if they really had him this high with today's performance, it would be quite embarassing - as juryfriendly as it is (and as I much I enjoyed it myself).

Oh oh, my sister is not amused LOTL have won. She didn’t like them at all. My brother didn’t write tonight in our WhatsApp group, maybe he was working, I‘m wondering what he will think.

Lord of the Lost seem great, a clear stand out tonight. The singer's covers of all the other competing songs give me a very good impression of him, he seems to be a respectful man who takes the contest with the right kind of attitude - not as a joke, but still having fun. This is also the most German sounding song from Germany since I don't remember when! They'll definitely be off the bottom of the scoreboard in May.

Having said all that, though... I think I'm going to give this a :4:. Glam metal isn't my favourite genre, but I like it when it's done well, and... this isn't really done that well. It feels quite unambitious for a band who are clearly talented. And things like the laser sounds in the chorus just feel amateurish and messy. Not to my taste at all. But I really do wish them the best and I'm so glad to see Germany finally sending something out of the box.

It´s juries hand-picked by NDR - a broadcaster who didn´t let Lord Of The Lost or Electric Callboy to enter the national final last year for "not being radio-friendly".

Will is a great vocalist and I wouldn´t mind to see him represent us in the near future because his voice is really angelic and amazing but honestly, also jury members should be able to listen to songs like "Hold On" and understand that it would finish bottom 5 in televoting again (he would have performed alright overall in May, though, due to some jury support)

The only thing I am grateful for the Juries are to place Ikke at the bottom. But I am also furious that they voted heavily for such bland songs. It is NOT enough to have a great voice when they know that in May it would finish in the bottom again. This time actually our audience saved LOTL. THANK GOD, at least once they did well.
Well, will go to bed now as I need my beauty sleep.

I don't think the second part of your post is what the jury is there for though. I don't think it's their task to pick a song that is going to do well in Eurovision's televote for example, or factor in these kind of things. The fan panel jury vote thing we had a couple of times was supposed to vote/think like that. The jury is just doing what they would do in May and I have zero doubts that this is also a jury result LOTL is looking at and what the system is supposed to simulate.

I agree with this. Blind Channel had a great song (but I also liked their cool style on stage), with Måneskin it was the performance (wouldn't listen much to the song by itself).

The most important thing for me is to get Germany away from the bottom. I have a feeling jury/public votes combined this will end up somewhere in the middle (I hope for more, of course). But that'll give the Germans... new blood. And in a few years they may get the glitter :)

:12: from me - Such a relief!

As an avid German fan, I´m used to feel utterly annoyed, depressed, embarrased, ashamed and mortified when it comes to our entries because they all sounded "alright"-ish but non-competitive...but this time, I feel like we´re in for a good result!
I don´t see Lord Of The Lost finishing Top 5 or Top 10 - but a placing between #11 to #16 is definitely possible (in my opinion) since it´s very memorable, catchy, energetic and Lord Of The Lost are a well-established band with many years of live/concert experience.

I´m happy that a band whose recent album peaked and debuted at #1 in Germany, represents my country!
We´ve had enough wannabes, wildcards, newcomers, talent shows has beens in recent years - don´t get me wrong - they can still come up with decent to good entries but we are one of the biggest and largest music markets of the world and we are a nation who likes many different genres (apart from "radio-friendly pop in English") and it feels amazing to finally submit a different tune to Eurovision!!
It´s a turning-point (or should be a turning-point) for our broadcaster and the music scene in general: There´s a demand and good will by the public to see well-established acts of different genres represent them in Eurovision!
At least, we won´t face any "No one knows that artist representing our country" headlines in Germany this year!
Hopefully, they will not flop in May so that more artists like them will be inspired to follow their path and get interested in Eurovision (and NDR won´t be shutting down their doors again!")

I´m also deliriously happy because Lord Of The Lost have been one of my favourite German artists for years now (together with Beyond The Black, Faun and Powerwolf)!

Never had I imagined to see this day again! Being happy about a German entry!!!

I don´t know whether I will place :de: on top of my list (I´m overwhelmed, overjoyed and euphoric right now) - but it will definitely be the first time since 2016 that I will place my home country in my personal Top 10 and that feels amazing (to support my Germany again!)

Thank you, German televoting!

Yeah, that's pretty much how it always goes when an artist you like eventually makes it to Eurovision or comes back even. I have it with Voyager this year and most of my 2020 faves returning with weaker songs in 2021 for example. When these artists we are familiar with get the special ticket to Eurovision it's usually with not one of their best. On the one hand we are fans and so have expectations the average person won't have.

I think your entry could grow on me and even if not it still looks to be pretty much a shoe-in for my top 10 at this point (it's already sitting there) as I don't expect much better to come now. Blood & Glitter is fine, could be heavier, yes.. but eh. You get to enjoy an entry from your own country for the first time in years xmetal
