Re: GERMANY 2019

Bad result is one of the reasons i believe! That happened in Greece! There was a time in the past that everyone was excited about Eurovision and now most people be like ''Do you still watch that sh@t?'' Other reason can be the lack of big names too or good shows!

https://esc-kompakt.de/ is basically the new Prinz blog. As far as I remember the Prinz blog also had to be closed because the publishing company decided to shut this down (this could be wrong, but it was at least stated in the comments by some Prinz blog people).
For me it seems as if it has the same content (despite missing live-blogs).

Its totally unübersichtlich, the community is small and here wont be exclusive Content.
Its no adequate Replacement for Prinz, but at least something.

I'm already so excited to hear the songs, I hope they will release little snippets before the national selection, so we get an idea how they sound like (:

Especially curious for Linus' song. Recently listened to some of his work, as I've only known him from The Voice, but if his ESC song sounds anything like "Pink Glasses", I'm sold

Re: GERMANY 2019

I dont know where the missing interest comes from, I think its also maybe due to our bad national finals in recent years. Really was no fan of the past 5 years. Like, last year was UBER cringey, especially bad voting, 2017, we dont have to talk about it, and 2016 was just done as fast as possible. We need A REAL GOOD SHOW and some good old names back I believe.

The UK has all of this and way more and yet there are probably more British Eurovision fans than from any other country

Re: GERMANY 2019

It's interesting you say that, as I'm sure Germans make up one of the largest nationalities on the forum. I know in WV Germans and Brits equally make up the largest numbers, with Croatians and Russians not far behind. It's just one of them things really. xshrug I guess it's just how things have evolved in Germany. I don't think it's an incompetent broadcaster though, because if it was the case there would be none here, also Spain OGAE is the largest (I think, not 100% sure) and Spain is all sorts of bless when it comes to esc.

No, EC Germany is the largest OGAE section at the moment (https://www.ecgermany.de/club/ueber) and the other Club, OGAE Germany (the club I am member of) is also one of the largest OGAEs afaik.

For me, the problem in Germany is not the amount of die-hard-fans - when you are visiting Eurovision in the host city, you meet a lots of German fans - but the acceptance of Eurovision among the public. Especially in my generation (born 1994) doesn´t have a good reputation and is barely watched/discussed in the internet.

Tbh, bad reputation is the biggest problem in every country, even Sweden (or at least I understood it like that). Eg. if Bosnia came back, not a single person in Bosnia would care.

Re: GERMANY 2019

I always thought ESC has a big cult following here in Germany. It's really something established among certain demographic groups but also in mainstream audience as a guilty pleasure. It's not a niche event as it was until the mid 90s. Of course its not as hyped as it was during the Raab-era and I think the big problem was/is? the bad performance by NDR and their incompetence in managing good material. Despite we got lucky with a 4th place last year it could've easily gone totally wrong if one of the other five songs would've won.

I don't know if PrinzBlog closed based on the bad performances of Germany in recent years - it seemed more like some personal decision of "having done that for a while and no move on to other things"-kind of case?
Last year one of the biggest forums closed (the ECGermany) and I am glad it did as it was basically a display of every bad clichée germans stand for and gave room for cynic, bitchy, humorless attitudes and conspiracy theories. A very bad job in biased administarion helped that the situation there has always been very unpleasant.

Re: GERMANY 2019

The last time ESC was in Israel TOP 5 was:

1. Sweden
2. Iceland
3. Germany
4. Croatia
5. Israel

It is interesting how chaos was in German NF that year when Corina May was disqualified and Surpriz got a chance.they were 3rd at ESC..

Maybe smth similar happens in Germany again.. :D

A mess in the NF after the winner is announced? Thats totally unheard off...not

Actually Israel is quite a lucky charm for Germany - 4th place in 1979 and 3rd place in 1999. If its now going to be a 2nd place I am officially betting on the winner for 2039.

http://www.eurovision-austria.com/linus-bruhn-der-song-our-city-ist-eine-up-tempo-nummer/

Interview from Linus with ESC-AT.

It will be an Uptempo-Song and he will move on stage. I expected a Guitar-Ballad tbh.

I hope Germany is sending an uptempo song this time around. I was so afraid that now that Michael got a 4th place result with his emotional ballad, everyone is going to go in that direction. But as it seems many of the artists went the other way (BB Thomaz, Aly, Linus and Sisters all said that their songs are more uptempo than anything else). Only Makeda and probably Gregor are going to have a ballad of some sorts :D

Re: GERMANY 2019

An uptempo song would be nice this time, but in case it should be a GOOD ballad, I am all in. I just hope that just like last year, I can identify myself with the song/artist as well. I am really curious. Well, a few weeks to go and we will know! :D

Oh yeah, if a ballad - again - is the best package of the night - let's go for it. I think Makeda is going with the big diva moment (maybe similar to Wiktoria from Sweden) and Gregor is probably going to go all acoustic and intimite - they are both going to be totally different to what Michael showed us last year. Crossing fingers, it's the first time in years where I'm just excited for the night xD
