(Edit: I don't want 'Anglovision' either, but I'm not at all dogmatic about the language aspect in ESC.)

I would not come across so dogmatic either if some broadcasters weren't dogmatic themselves (in the opposite way, means in favour of English and against national languages). E.g. the French entry for 2008 sounded absolutely French to me in spite of the fact that it was in English, same with Germany's entry in 2003 (although this was rather weak). Nevertheless the last entry sent by the NDR that was largely in German dates back to 2007, ironically in a 100% American genre. And if we go back further we'll end up in 2001, that's twelve years ago.
Something has dramatically got out of hand there. xshrug

I have no problem with sending english songs, I mean they are a big part of our music scene. But not always. The last time we sent a German song was back in 2007 next year that's 7 years ago. So I think it's really time now for an entry in german.

But I'd be very afraid that an entry in German would sound like Tim Bendzko Style - and I'm pretty sure that that is what's going to happen in this case.

That's exactly the problem. The ARD audience would certainly vote for someone like him than someone like Betty Dittrich.

One must not mix up two things: The percentage of English-language music that is in the charts/media and the proportion of German musicians that write or sing their songs in English. If we are looking for representativeness of German music only the latter is to be taken into account and that is indeed very small. So the exception should be sending an entry in English and not the other way around.
I understand Kicker's concern though as Bendzko's type of music would not be my first choice either; partly because I share his doubts whether this could well translate into points in ESC. But then again it is not too different from this year's Hungarian entry which did very well even in Hungarian language. Moreover Germany failed so often with (pseudo) anglo stuff in the past that I would not see the harm if it failed another time in a more sincere way.

Yes, because sixties schlager is "out" at the moment. I do not view this as a problem.

It's definitely more interesting than some bland Bendzko pop song. It would have been special in a grand final with so many ballads. Anyway, Betty was just an example. I don't listen to sixties music either, but I enjoyed her performance and cuteness.

We have a really good musician scene in Germany. F.e. Glasperlenspiel could represent Germany in German language. I can´t see this as disadvantage. If the song is perfect, it doesn´t matter if it´s sung in German or in English. It was great in 2007, that Roger Cicero sang his song in German, allthough I don´t liked his song. If Lena had sung in German, she still had won, I´m sure about that.
It was great this year to hear different languages.

3 were in German, 8 in English. And of course the 'jury' ranked every single English song higher than the rest.

Interesting fact btw: Next year, the ESC-final takes place on the same day the German soccer-cup-final takes place.
Both are usually watched by lots of viewers.
The problem is, that ARD has the rights to broadcast both programms.
I wonder, how ARD will handle this.

Spain had the same problem this or last year and they postponed the cup final.

To be honest the only worthy one out of the three was Betty Dittrich.

I think that ARD and ZDF are always alternating with showing the cup final. This year it's ARDs turn so it would be ZDFs next year... Still interesting though how they would manage it, since it will be difficult to find another date for the cup final

They were until ZDF got the rights for broadcasting the Champions League.
So since this season, only ARD broadcasts the matches of the DFB-Pokal. Ok, they could sell it to ZDF, but I don´t think, they will, because that would mean that ESC will be watched by less viewers.
