The songs are geoblocked for me
The Francetv link doesn't work for you ? Others seem to be able to access it so it's not reserved for France only
Okay now that I listened to the 12 of them a few times I can share my ranking and comments. But first of all, here is my general impression of this NF.
I love the diversity they brought us. It's a celebration of multicultural France, I'm proud of this selection. There are a lot of songs with summer & positive vibes. I don't know how to feel about that, as the instrumental parts seem a little simple to me. There are many repetitions in lyrics too, with the famous "La La La" and its siblings that can all go to hell.
I had a hard time making my ranking, especially the top 4 as their places kept switching.
1. Andriamad - Alléluia
Her backing vocals in the second part with him singing on top really bring out some flavour. It's maybe a little too repetitive, but I love the general mood here, I can totally see it on the ESC stage (I wouldn't expect a high result though).
2. Pony X - Amour Fou
I like the electro sounds, it's a secret to no one, so of course I like this one. Yes, we hear this type of music on radio and all, but it's the first time France is proposing us something like this. After all, we produce a lot of DJ's, it would only be fitting to have a song that gets inspiration from this type of music as our representative.
3. LMK - Magique
Female bop incoming, it makes me want to move. The girl has an attitude and is giving us a modern proposition.
4. Philippine - Bah non
I definitely like it more than her previous hit posted here. Like all the songs in this nf it's maybe a little too "linear" but she really brings out her personality, she seems assertive, she catches our attention.
5. 21 Juin Le Duo
I love the percussions here. Classic summer vibes, they used to do the first part of Trois Cafés Gourmands and it shows, their style is pretty close. It doesn't bring much novelty but it works well.
6. Barbara Pravi - Voilà
I won't lie, I immediately thought of Edith Piaf. Don't get fooled, no one can be on par with this legend but the style of her song and her general attitude are all the same. Her vocals are quite varied. However I would be disappointed if she wins, I'd like for France to bring something else than a ballad, it's time to showcase more styles.
7. Céphaz - On a mangé le soleil
Like I said before, it's fresh and full of hope.
8. Casanova - Tutti
Typical poster boy with an even more typical poster pop song but what can I say, the more I listen to it the more I like it, it gets in your head, and doesn't want to leave it.
9. ALI - Paris me dit (Yalla ya helo !)
Aside from the fact he gets negative points for singing an ode to Paris (IT'S A JOKE GUYS CALM DOWN), I think this song has good potential, it was written by Hyphen Hyphen which I like but right now it's not enough, too tame.
10. Amui - Maeva
I wish they had gone farther into the musical folklore, more percussions wouldn't have hurt. I think it's too weak for ESC at this stage.
11. Juliette Moraine
Her song is in the same vein as Barbara Pravi... who performed it better. Less interesting voice, less variety, less passion.
12. Terence James
Talk about title repetition, try to be more innovative in the lyrics next time, will you. Cornemuse was a good idea but should have been more prominent to give the song a modern folk coloration, which Solovey did perfectly last year. As it is now it's just an average song.
