Oh. Well.
His work is what I call background music, something nice to listen to while driving in the spring, but that's it. I know he didn't wrote the song, but if they chose him it means it's close to what he usually does. For once I wanted my country to take some risk, experiment a little even if the result isn't there. We're PQ anyway, we should take advantage of it.
But who knows, I might be surprised by the song. Actually I hope it will be the case, I wouldn't be more happy to be wrong.

To be honest, I was worried that FTV would choose both the song and the artist, but I'm glad that they decided to focus on the entry rather than the singer itself.

He’s hot and I love his voice, but his music does absolutely nothing for me. I agree that it is dull and I usually love this kind of music, so it is not a good sign and a shame really.

But with a surprising song this could still end up being very high on my list.

It looks like the entry was chosen (prior to Tom Leeb, which is first and foremost reassuring!!!) among hundreds of songs according to several statements from the French HoD during a press conference. Moreover, our entry is reportedly impactful and experimental.

EDIT: here is the link

Did they really say "experimental"? Because via the link you posted, the journalist says it has a universal feel meant to reach international audiences (so it's commercial-sounding), but nothing more.

Universality, emotion and providing listeners with an experience was their goal apparently, but does the song they chose tick all these boxes? We'll see.

I'm really curious to see how much english he'll be able to squeeze into the song. Having seen the fierce reaction (I even remember that this was an issue in french parliament or am I mistaken?) on "Devine" I think he'll have to make compromises and sing at least parts in french. The question is - how much?

I think the chances are that France potentially could do very well this year, as this is the kind of music people like.

The chances meanwhile of doing anywhere near to well with my body are at catastrophic levels of low for France, which I'm sure has them quaking with sickness and dread, with all kinds of dark thoughts twirling around the brain on how to avoid me taking a massive dump here in a month or two from now. I promise I'll be swift, and then you can enjoy the potential top 10, cause the jury will devour a commercial singer-songwriter like this whole, wipe down the crumbs with a lil' bib and then demand seconds.

Willing to eat my shade though and be converted of course. I think Tom Leeb is a wise choice for a good result. It's just sometimes you really do have a solid idea when something is not going to be for you.

I have figured out why I don’t like his songs. I just miss a beginning and an end. They all start the same and end the same. The lyrics are going nowhere and everywhere at the same time. There is no climax whatsoever. Maybe a French song would actually be helpful.

I hope none. I don't like it when we mix language, it really feels unnatural. You either go one way or another, and in this context I want it to go the French way.

They said controversies about english in their songs were in the past and they always assumed their choice. I'm calling it now, our song will be 100% with english lyrics. 😭

Some more interesting informations :
"A hundred songs were proposed, said at a press conference on Tuesday Alexandra Redde-Amiel, director of entertainment and variety of France Televisions who takes the lead of the delegation. The song is "in work in progress" and will be released "later", she said. Besides, it doesn't have a title yet. It will in any case be a "universal" song:

"We had a crush on a song, it was obvious, something happens when we listen to it," said Alexandra Redde-Amiel.

She also praised the "unique, charismatic and authentic grain of voice" of the 30-year-old actor, son of humorist Michel Leeb. Tom Leeb succeeds Bilal Hassani, who arrived last year in 16th place in the ranking. The young YouTuber and singer wished him good luck on social networks.

The competition will take place this year in Rotterdam (Netherlands). One thing is certain: "We want France to organize Eurovision," said Alexandra Redde-Amiel. "We are going to go to the end of the dream so that we have no regrets. We are ambitious.""
