What's the reason for the sudden jump in odds for this? Did he do a good rehearsal? The song is a banal bore and I see this as a major flop among televoters, even a potential bottom in the final based on televotes alone, so not sure where those odds comes from tbh? It would be a shame if this song would fair better than actual good French entries that were overlooked in the past (in particular last year) xshrug

he probably exceeded expectations (France is not really known for good staging, plus his vocals used to be questionable) while others didn't live up to expectations would be my guess :)

I am glad it's climbing the odds. I knew it, there is just something about this entry that spoke to me. It's not because I am gay or anything so I can relate to the song. There is this appeal about this song. And France did the right thing to have a staging that elevates the song, which alot of the favourites this year fail to do that. So I am very happy that France (and Azerbaijan) came out of nowhere and is ready to pounce on the winning title, although I know both won't likely to win. But giving the competition an extra excitement is fun!

Why are y'all saying that it's Ireland 2018? Can't see the point here. :?

Anyway, the staging is amazing. The whole rehearsal is convincing.

I guess it has to do with that some of the songs the fans loved on forehand has drifted in the odds and therefore, they start to look for every possible thing that talks against those who threatens their favorites.

And probably because :ie: got from 15-16th up to 3rd in the odds after the running order was revealed for the final last year.

But It´s better to climb the odds during the rehearsals than lying in the background after both semis and then all of a sudden becoming a odds favorite because of the running order, it was pretty obvious that :ie: were never going to be in the top last year.

So it seems that the "Fuegos" of this years ESC is :se:, :fr: and :az: climbing after every rehearsal

And who is the Rybak of this year?

There were many strange reasons why Rybak was so high in the odds last year but it´s no point explaining them since no one will listen anyway

France winning would be a killer blow for what's left of the contest's credibility. Strip away the gimmickry and you have a painfully average song, poorly performed.

Oh, ffs, can people just finally let go of this bullshit? What "credibility" are you talking about? The ESC by nature is a reality competition program where the best gimmicks win, because that's how you win a popularity contest in a TV show. That's all there is to it and France is doing everything right in order to win the contest while almost everybody else is flopping with the staging and the camera work.

I will listen :)

Former winner, won with a simple song in 2009, had charisma, and since joke songs has been quite successfull in the competition before, I guess that is what made the oddsmakers place him that high during the rehearsals

I don't think you can call Sweden the "Fuego" of this year. Sweden was consistently in the top 5-10 in the betting odds this year.
I would say it's Azerbaijan and France co-sharing the title as of now. Wait till semi-finals are over, we may see another shifts in the odds.

Not bad. "Former Winner" "tons of charisma" and "fun song" were indeed the most used phrased on esctips when explaning why he could potentially win the televoting. A hype was build up and people were joining this hype train.
