Well, I think this has chances to win, it's an ok in overall to me,though.

Ofc we wouldn't expect Eurovision fans to hate/dislike performance/voice/song related to acceptance and tolerance... If it was related to any other message, the staging would be a mess for everyone...

The French delegation was very clever, but I will be quite unhappy if this wins. It is quite disgusting & sad to see how people are easily influenced and how people change their minds... This is just my opinion...

But yes, Bilal can win... I also think he will reach the 1st place in the betting odds before the Grand Final, but let's see how juries will react to this

Uhhhhghhhh it’s performances like these that give Eurovision such a bad reputation. All this saccharine crap. If this wins I’m done.

It was a genius move to add Lizzy Howell to this live performance, it's a game changer for this year's contest.

Ok, I got it, Bilal has climbed the odds in the same way as Eleni last year. A rise a la Cyprus.

From what I can see with the TV clip released some hours ago, the camera works are beyond amazing and the staging is brilliant. That's pretty nice actually that we got rid of Edoardo Grassi, who thought that he got right every staging or idea he came up with regarding the staging of French acts since 2016.

Congratulations :fr: and the new HoD (Steven sth?), you made me cheer on Bilal. xheart

I wouldn`t get my hopes up too high if I were French

As for me, I don't to be honest. You didn't either, when Michael performed with an amazing staging last year, did you? xshrug

Nowadays all these "let's show some acceptance to minorities and repressed ones" seem not intimately good intended (aka fake and strategical) to me. A drag Muslim with Moroccan origin performing his song with a fat dancer. I mean, there is nothing wrong with that unless it is used as a weapon to get attention. Which is why I was uncomfortable with Lithuanian performance in 2015. That gay kiss moment seemed too forced to me. What is actually bad is that you can't really tell if this is being done for a good intention of sending a message, or for strategical reasons.

As a side note, though, the song has grown on me a lot since the first time I heard it.

I never liked Michael`s song tbh and even after the rehearsals I was sure that he wouldn`t make it past the 15th place. xshrug

After watching the full rehearsal, the staging feels kinda cheesy but that's okay because it feels very emotional and powerful
I'd be pleased if this comes top 10 :D

I don't think it should win there are more daring entries that I'd love to see winning (hello Iceland) but it's the best package this eurovision has. The song is not winner-worthy imho but France 2 did the best they could with that song and that's how you play this game. For now I don't think it's a winner though so not really hoping for anything.

I'm not really complaining as a french, I would love to see my country win eurovision but we all know this contest is a tv show, you have to be the most memorable with a song that can support that and it seems that "Roi" is memorable. If I have to be honest (the winners from) 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 weren't the best songs but the overall package was. If the 2010's told us something is that having the best song isn't enough to win (fortunately or unfortunately depending on your mood).

On a positive note:
My boyfriend really liked the song when I showed him all the entries this year (He gave it 10 points, I think) ...so maybe there is a broader appeal to it that I just don`t get. We shall see.

In what way? We finished dead last in 2014 and we nearly did the same in 2015. That's not what I call a good "overall package"... xshrug

I dont get why this is going so wild in the odds. The backdrop is nice with the door thing or whatever but that is where it ends. There is nothing about it that is highly emotive or stand out apart from a blatant use of an over weight dancer as a gimmick and tagging some generic be yourself phrases on the back. His singing has improved also but it is far from being a great quality.

France winning would be a killer blow for what's left of the contest's credibility. Strip away the gimmickry and you have a painfully average song, poorly performed.

What's the reason for the sudden jump in odds for this? Did he do a good rehearsal? The song is a banal bore and I see this as a major flop among televoters, even a potential bottom in the final based on televotes alone, so not sure where those odds comes from tbh? It would be a shame if this song would fair better than actual good French entries that were overlooked in the past (in particular last year) xshrug

They really need to chill with the odds tbh  I feel like bettors are trying at all costs to find a third wheel to support for the podium places because some favourites supposedly didn't come through with their stagings: thinking "Roi" could be in contention for victory overnight because we've got some visuals for once is a bit a of stretch imo.

I love the staging. Can‘t wait to watch the full performance on the Grand Final.

Too early to speak if this wins or not, however, I can see it receiving lots of voices mostly from the western countries.
