Well taste differs. I honestly can't say his music bothers me. His music is not new, I know. His character is simply annoying. He has a huge ego. People might find him pretty, I honestly don't see why. His tattoos are soooo ugly, wait and see when he is 40 .
I don't find it offensive to say French music can be attractive and boring mentioning his name. Kids here all hate French as a school subject. It's an utterly boring language. Well, everything is dominated by the Anglosaxon culture. Their fav tv-show, their fav singer, are all American or British. Their favorite place to be is Starbucks. They cannot relate to French whatsoever. I used Pokora in class and his cheap, and for them good-looking appearance, opened actually a new world to them. They have an image that French is for oldies, that it has a boring music scene etc. Showing them what kids in France like, is showing them that French and France is not boring, but also attractive . Instead of using classic French songs (I adore them), I try to find newer music. I already used Pokora, Tal, PZK,... If they worked good, I let them listen to a new released song at the end of the hour just before the bell and they are always enthousiast. They liked French more. So I don't see the problem .
Yeah, fortunately taste differs I was overreacting to your sentence because I simply don't get all the success he enjoyed recently. I don't find him handsome either, but one just has to read the fans' comments to understand that they're in love with him firstly because "he's sooo handsome", the music comes in second place. But that's ok, many people tend to forget that singing well should be the main quality of a singer.
Otherwise, your story is cute and I can only applaud how you make an effort to show to your kids that French music isn't made for the elderly only. But honestly, you said it yourself : the Anglosaxon supremacy takes up all the space... And I clearly don't see what's different when listening to Pokora and Tal. I mean, apart from the French lyrics, those singers do have americanized songs too, so no wonder your kids may like it since it doesn't change that much from what they're used to listen to. What about Grégoire? Christophe Maé? Nolwenn Leroy? They're far from being US-copycats.
Just to clarify, Pokora and Tal could fit the ESC well, no doubt. What I fear is that their hypothetical entries would be certainly below our recent standards. I mean : "Et S'il Fallait Le Faire", "Sognu" and "L'enfer Et Moi" were musically more demanding than their entire material, and I wish we could keep on sending "out-of-the-box"-ish entries rather than joke ones or cheap ones.
