You see, I think France need to send something modern and fresh. By that, I don't mean what they sent in 2012 which was a mess.

I'm thinking along the lines of 2010 with Jessy Matador. Maybe send someone like M Pokora or a Guetta produced track. I am sure the french language isn't the problem, it's that they sent boring songs (let's be honest here).

Of course, it's the 2014 World Cup next year and so France might do something similar to what they did in 2010. I'm hoping so anyway.

As we debated on modern things I just thought of it.

Quebec singer Marie-Mai released last year a cover in French of Robyn and I really find it great, so that French lyrics should sound really great in any kind of song if well written, no matter what one can think ! ;)

Yelle would be as peculiar, spectacular and... unsuccessful as Sébastien Tellier. I'd be all for it, Yelle's one of my favourite bands.

I also like Yelle, though I've never thought of them as being a good act for Eurovision... but then, why not?! It could be interesting

Jana Lee. My probably favourite French singer ever. She could make an excellent result for France. But who knows if she's interested in representing them.

Jena Lee !!!

She hasn't made anything for several years and was know only among teenagers (like Maitre Gims somehow)...
I don't believe she would do it anyhow...

BTW, Natasha St-Pier will host the new music show of France 3 now... And Patrick Fiori has been chosen for the summer tune of the channel...

France 3 has been criticised for having sent something seen as too elitist (which is ) so I fear we will have a xboring xsleep ballad

That's true. She hasnt released anything in past 2 years. :(

This is my favourite song by her. IMO this could do pretty well at ESC xshrug

I like that song as well. My favorite is the duet with OrelSan! He rocks the song

OrelSan would be so cool, some rap on the Eurovision stage. La France 12 points!

To me, the main issue in France is that our music scene has reduced significantly for quite a couple of years now.

One can count our most popular singers (at the moment) on the fingers of one hand, and music/lyrics-wise, it's rather poor. And yeah, almost everyone here is making albums filled with covers. Besides, the other potential sources of future ESC participants are either second-class singers (from idols or past musicals) or pompous pseudo-intellectual so-called artists (like Lou Doillon, as you mentioned her).

Imo not many people have the perfect profile to be successful in the contest while singing something France wouldn't be ashamed of.

I'm really not against a ballad again, we scored well back in 2009 and in 2001, so why not? It's true that this genre seems outdated for most people, yet we tried the pop-rock "sophistication" of Amandine, the modern Guetta-like electro-pop track with Anggun, the opera-ish thing with Amaury and even the football anthem with Jessy... but overall it failed big time.

However I'm just afraid that they would send something very cheesy in that case : something that could have been sung by mediocre singers like Magalie Vaé or Lisa Angell.

What about Brigitte Fontaine?

"Dance FLOORR"xheat

xrofl3 xrofl3 xrofl3

Bloody Rainy ! You will always impress me !

Well, Brigitte Fontaine is a very special person... She has taken so many drugs in her life... (it may represent the annual production of Colombia maybe...) that she's really a strange person, acting in a senseless way, and having nonsensical conversations... So I don't know what would happen on the Eurovision stage ! xrofl3

When she came back in the 00s, TV talk shows invited her a lot because they know she would do crazy things... But now she doesn't show herself. I guess she may not be very healthy... It reminds me former hippie icon Valérie Lagrange (Don't know if you know her ? :) ) who said in an interview it was a miracle if she's still alive and healthy because almost everyone around her died very young from drugs.... I see she always appears on TV now with a fan, because it looks like she doens't have teeth any more... :?
Anyway, she's very gifted and nice, but certainly out of any control ! :lol It would be Sylvia Night undisguised on drugs ! xrofl3

Look this interview... Even if you don't understand, hear how she talks... And this interview... First sentence, as the journalist read one quote of her song, she answers. "No, I'm old and I f... you in the a.s.s, with my ladybird look !" xrofl3 Then she talks great things around homophobia, islam, immigrants, jailed people, philosophy and other things... "Grace Jones I kiss you !"

Here you have also a best of of one of her last appearances in TV ! xrofl3

Well she might be a little too much for ESC... xrofl3

Oh my goodness Toinou, you are like a walking, talking encyclopaedia of artist information! You know everything there is to knowxclap

I gathered that Ms. Fontaine is very "special" I love how bizarre she is. I enjoyed watching those interviews and I didn't even know what was going on. I imagine she would be EXPLOSIVE at the Eurovision Song Contest. As a matter of fact, I think she's just what the contest needs.

I'll allow you to enter either Brigitte Fontaine or Amanda Lear.. or....... BOTH!!!!??? A Brigitte & Amanda duet:eek: Since no one seems keen on Lou Doillon for some reasonxthink

I just treated myself to Brigitte's "Prohibition" albumxqueenbitch
