My new dream now to represent France at Eurovision is Lou Doillon.

I don't think it's ever going to happen though. Toinou I think you actually introduced me to her music a few months back in the french topic. You posted like a link to some french rewards show and she was there, then I fell in love with her music. Thank you:p
I ended up importing her album from France. She's so wonderful. I love her talk style of singingxyes

Oh !!! :D

She will never be in Eurovision ! (well never say never) but I wouldn't like her... Plus, she only sings in English as she's half English by her mother Jane Birkin.
As for me, I would like wether real French pop and my xlove remains Olivia Ruiz... She's THE BEEEEEEST ! :D xrose

Or I would go for modern ballads. Some years ago, I would have picked (in my wild dreams ) Cœur de Pirate (though I know she's Canadian, but well, it's the same thing...) Well Cœur de Pirate is the best one in this genre (and this song is anthemic) but there are many artists in France in this genre ! :) :

BtW, Rainywoods, do you know Emilie Simon. As for me she's the best French artist. The front song of her last album was this one she wrote after the death of her husband from the mexican influenza in Athens (strange story). She's such a genius that she today makes more carrier in the USA than in France. She's somehow in the musical family of Sébastien Tellier.

This music is so good:eek: Is this really mainstream pop music in France? It's so much better than the pop music of my my country today. This music feels like it has such identity to it and heart. Olivia Ruiz and Emilie Simon were especially wow to me. It's obvious i've been missing a lot of special music from France. I want to instantly check both these girls music now. This seems such creative stuff. Olivia's song you showed me there was crazy interesting to me.

I really like Lou Doilon though. She's probably not right at all for the contest however. She reminds me a lot of the female artists from decades ago that were around in the times of rock and roll. She harks back to a time when music was simpler, voices were unaffected. She just sings and doesn't put anything on. She's great live and I get really fascinated looking at her face as well for some reason:lol:

:D I'm very happy to have made you discover new things ! :)
Olivia Ruiz is completely mainstream. She's in "chanson", you know. Plus, she has made the talent show "Star Academy"... At the time she didn't know what it was, but she was very unhappy there. i love her voice + she sings poetry and funny things. I give you her most famous songs :
Olivia Ruiz - J'Traine Des Pieds - YouTube
Olivia Ruiz - La Femme Chocolat (Clip) - YouTube
Olivia Ruiz - Les Crêpes Aux Champignons - YouTube

As for Emilie Simon, she's undergound. She's never on TV. She has almost disappeared after her 3rd album... But she never was really mediatised... I was sure you would love her ! She's a music genius. She creates her own music instruments to create sounds. She became internationnaly famous for having made the music of the movie "La marche de l'empereur" (the movie with the penguins !)

Well that said, I love Olivia Ruiz because she's the best compromise between pop chansons often poor and cliché-ridden, and intellectual songs, often annoying as hell... Well lyrics are considered as the most important in French (mediterranean tradition) but music is before all a voyage, a pleasure, no ?
As for Emilie Simon, she's underground but accessible for anybody. And she doesn't care about fashions. She makes what she feels. :)

Curiously, Olivia and Emilie are from the extreme south (Carcassonne and Montpellier).

But mainstream is more what you see on TV all the time, especially M. Pokora (you can't turn on the TV without seing him. well sure he's eye-candy  and really really nice, but his music is extremely poor) or Shy'm (same), or people like that. At least what they do has character... There are far trasher things for youngsters, which go directly to my dustbin. But for the love of Jesus Christ, I don't want to see them anywhere near to Eurovision !
And, there are ballads singers :? In 2010, in the place of Jessie Matador who was a last minute call, Emmanuel Moire was reported. He's very nice (and hot !) but his music is really boringly soft... It enters and ear and exits the other as we say in French !

Afterwards, you can make your market ! But as for me, I don't listen to French music a lot... And I don't know it very well ! :)

I already knew Olivia Ruiz and Coeur de Pirate :D I love Béatrice but I've never seen her as a possible representative for France. I suppose she doesn't know what this is and I believe she's more into "intimate" atmospheres. But it would be delightful to see her of course xheart

Thank you so, so much Toinou:p

I'm going to check all your links out soon when I feel like I can give them my full attention. I feel a bit exhausted right now.

I remember Emmanuel Moire from when he was rumoured. He seemed ok if a little dull if I remember. Theres one French guy who I discovered a while back and thought was pretty interesting. I wouldn't know how to describe it. He was maybe in his 40's and had a bald head. The songs were great though. I've got to remember him.

Nolwenn Leroy

Sonia Lacen (I don't believe she's that famous so she probably wouldn't be chosen, but this song is epic!)

Mmmhhh, I don't know about France. Eurovision is in danger there.

The TV ratings from yesterday evening in France are the worst ever for the Eurovision on France 3, only than 2.702.000 have been watching it : Audiences prime: La finale de "The Voice" en tête sur TF1, mais en recul - L'Eurovision au plus bas sur France 3 but there was a big competition against The Voice on TF1 xshrug Anyway, last year the contest was watched by only 4.000.000 people, which was already one of the worst results for the contest on TV at the time :(

But let's say it : SVT killed the song by placing it on 1st spot IOTAP

Jenifer xheart - I think she has a great ESC material
Alizee - Why not? But I must admit that her new album is decentish
Nolwenn Leroy - She would make some killer song

We have enough good singers, we need more than anything a very good song with a more universal appeal than what we've had recently.
For once it would be nice to choose strategically and focus on songs with powerful melodic lines even if it's a little cheesy.
pop/dance is perfect :

Any decent ballad from a musical would at least make top 15 :

But I predict another weird and ESC inappropriate entry in 2014

Sonia Lacen is definitely a possible name because she's not famous at all... She made a musical a long time ago, then was forgotten, and came to The Voice...
She features the last album of Natasha St-Pier in which the front single features also Anggun, so she can be a possibility ! :)

Oh how I hope so! she'd do a great power ballad :) I saw a video of her singing Russian Roulette on The Voice, and that also sounded amazing :D

I was unsure who should have the honour of having the artist i'm about to suggest represent them. There are at least 39 countries eligible..

I think France deserves to get back on track in the contest though and the woman to do it for you.. is........

Amanda Lear

All songs taken from her epic latest album "I Don't Like Disco". This icon and living legend would be my dream for you.

Nolwenn Leroy would be perfect but she won't do it.

Zaz would be a great choice too. I dislike her completely but her album sold a lot and i heard her songs everywhere in Romania, Moldova & Ukraine and apparently she charted really well in Russia, Czech Republic, Belgium, Germany, Greece and Poland so i guess in theory Belarus, Baltics, and Ukraine should indeed be receptive.

She did also relatively good in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria so why not.

I think she could have the perfect uptempo song for eurovision.

I really don't see Zaz here although it would be great

Danny Brillant would be a good fit with a decent new song

Sunny music from overseas

Especially with the last results we won't have any renowned singer
