I wouldn't mind a song like 2009. It was marvellous!
Done well, it could bring France a victory!

You mentioned Brice Conrad being promoted by France Télévisions currently. Do you think this news makes him a bigger possibility since it appears there is like only 3 weeks till the NF and we haven't heard any other names?

Since France likes to change genres every year it could be his style they want this time and they haven't done it. If he does I hope its a song like SONGE I really liked that one, simple yet very catchy.

I don't know if he's interested but I think he has somhow the profile. He's not a bad singer. He's rather famous. But his sales aren't good...
Songe is indeed his only good songs. The other one are annoying... Anyway I think he's typically the kind of accomplished singers who can go to Eurovision. :)

Does anyone remember what the last NF was like? Did the right song win or was there any song that people considered robbed?

I noticed the last 3 national finals held (2005-07) all resulted in bottom 3 finishes with a grand total of 35 points. xshock Are the French public as bad as France3 when it comes to song selection xthink I hope they have improved. xpray

I don't know how the NF's were but there's another option that might have happened: all the songs were bad and no matter what the French public chose they'd end up badly represented. I hope that won't happen this year!

The problem is that those NF had terrible line-up...
2007 was beyond awefulness... I remember that we could discover each day one entry... At the begining, we thought it was a joke ! Then it became clear it was the real line up ! xfacepalm
The only known act was punk band The Vampas (#8) with the parodic "Faut voter pour nous" which had zero interest as it was the copy of "We are the winners" xfacepalm All the other acts were amateurs, including Les Fatals Picards...
There was a controversy because Medi-T (#5) was the favorite and voting were said to be very close...

2006 was an Idol-like casting. But with the image of Eurovision in France, there were only terrible singers, all the more as the casting was organised by Pascal Sevran who used to host an afternoon program for almost dead persons with songs by forgotten singers (including Eurovision early winners , old dances, Vienna valses, accordeon, and all... But he's dead now...) And the winner was Virginie Pouchain, who in fact already sung in the show of Pascal Sevran... And then she had that aweful song Vous c'est nous... Which was turned down and replaced at the very last time... Il était temps was a very beautiful song, and Pouchain has a good voice, but clearly, she was out of place on stage, and really bad managed... She looked horrible, with horrible make-up, and everything, definitely not prepared for the thing... And, oh, she hasn't got any charisma, that was completely stupid to make her win...

2005 had also an aweful line-up... The only known act was Lionel Tim who was infamous in fact for having been the leader of winning Popstars band Link up witch featured M. Pokora (who quitted the band at the very begining). The runner-up, Christophe Héraut had an outdated ballad and was off tune during all the song...

The problem is that at the time Eurovision was seen as a horrible thing so that no one wanted to take part, letting only anonymous and amateur persons to enter the selections... Now that the contest gained a better image (despite having lower ratings) thanks of Sébastien Tellier, Patricia Kaas and all the following artists, we may have a better selection... But we never know... I think we may have many former Idols contestants...

But every selection had curious things. In 2000, Jessica Ferley was set to win and Sofia Mestari won. In 1999, Ginie Line who was already quite famous was thought to win, and Nayah came to Jerusalem...

We aren't used to organize national finals in fact. Then, French people ignore that there are programs like Melodifestivalen in the other countries !

:fr: NF will be held on 26th of January at 5 p.m. hosted by Natasha St-Pier.

Natasha will also be the French commentator together with Cyrille Féraud who does it (greatly) since the 2 last years ! :)

I believe it is because the show won't be live... So, it won't be said right after the show who is the winner... But I suppose we will know it afterwards. xrofl3 Welcome to a country which doesn't care about Eurovision ! xrofl3

Edit : Oh I didn't read correctly... There will be one month voting ! xcrazy  Oh la la !!!! xrofl3 What a mess !

In what world do they need one month voting to choose ONE song :?:eek:

I suppose they saw the results of the last three national finals and didn't like what they saw. xrofl So now their hoping if they give people a little extra time xrofl2 it will give them the chance to think long and hard before they pick but forgot at ESC you only get like an hour to decide. xrofl3

I suppose it would have made more sense to present the songs on January 26th and then promote them for a month before they do voting on a March 2nd recap show or something like that. xshrug

I suppose voting will last one month long because the show isn't watch a lot and France 3 wants...

I am not sure this will mean a step forward for France...although I wish it would. Only 3 songs is not a whole lot to choose from, unless the songs are really good! This puts a lot of responsability on the jury picking the 3 songs.
And 4 months for the public to decide? I am all for the public being able to hear the songs several times before deciding (so that the most "instant" song doesnt necessarily win) - but 4 months is a long time... again; I hope the 3 chosen songs are all REALLY good!!!

I suppose considering how low the ratings are you could claim by extending the voting for the whole month is making sure the songs could be promoted and heard outside the show's tiny audience. xshrug

Also if France flops again France3 can cover their butts by claiming people had a WHOLE month to hear and vote so they have no right to complain.

Surely interest is lost in 4 weeks, unless there's some show to back the songs up in the build-up for the result?

According to a French poster on another forum...

the songs will be promoted in short programs during the vote period on France 3 and France Bleu, one of the biggest French radio public stations.

So they will be reaching a wider audience on radio and TV though the month of voting. Its not bad although I think it would have been better to only allow voting on the March 2nd results show to avoid any funny business.

Also has it been decided yet if the three songs will be all by the same artist or will they have different artists for each song?

That is true, though songs will be displayed IMO at 6 pm on France 3, right before the gameshow of the channel, which has a ... mature audience
And France Bleu is a radio clearly for retirement houses xrofl3

But, they will be highly publicised on the internet I guess, especially if one of the singers is known... :)

And they are from 3 different artists. It's the same selection process which chose Amandine, but instead of selecting one song, they choose 3 and let public (and jury) have a final say. But with 3 songs, anyway, jury will have most of the power...
