I you need a quick look at the three contestants ! :)

Destan
les-destan-vous-reservent-une-surprise.jpg

They are a brand new band signed in Universal and created ad hoc to fill a vacant place in French music and be a :fr: declination of One-Direction. They admit being a real copy (until the looks) and are promoted by a teenage website... They have already many teenage fans (with their only song). They have big potential as they are supported by the team who created Tal (who actually came out of nowhere also).

She has been the highlight of Star Academy 8 in 2008 but never broke through afterwards. In fact, it was the last seasons on TF1, with very poor ratings... She surprisingly lost in semi-finals against the eventual winner who never released any single. She tried to make an album but never managed to. She only made a single and a musical, but she's desperate to make any career... but her strength is that she has great vocal abilities.

They are yet to be known by the wide public but are well-known of some intellogentsia. They are mostly creative and have worked with a lot of desingners, fashion creators, artists, and have made a movie. The black boy is a beatboxer who has worked with very famous artists, and recently Hindi Zara as I read. Their first music video features Orlan who is one of the biggest contemporary artists in the world ! So it's not only party music. It has in fact a big artistic background, in the same track as a Sébastien Tellier...

Thanks for this great summary toinou! Destan are cr*p, but I actually think Joanna could be a fine contestant with a power ballad, and I love the freshness of TwinTwin, could be memorable on stage (but no chance of points). No winners here, IMO, but surprisingly good picks by France 3 (except for Destan).

Very glad French juries went for emergent singers and all 3 were great.
For me, Destan is the best choice, with an amazing song they could reach top 10 if they can sing live

I feel sorry for France seeing this line-up of names :(

I have no idea what Brüno is on about tbh. The last French entry I really liked (although a bit skeptical at first) was 2010 (but of course the grandma juries scr*wed it up).

I will not be expecting too much from France this year - which is a shame, because I normally have high expectations for France in the contest! I guess I am hoping for a great song (any genre really: french chanson, upbeat, rock, pop-ballad etc) from the best voice; which would be Joanna, I guess?

The last french entry I really loved (still amongst the 10 best entries of the ESC of all times) was 2009 (but of course the infantile televoters scr*wed it up).

I think that France deserved to win by a mile in 2009. It was one of the few occasions where the jury actually did some good, pushing Patricia's entry into a respectable position. Probably my second favourite entry of all time.

S'il fallait le faire is a beautiful song - and Patricias live performance was outstanding; lifting the song to a higher level. So happy that it gained a top 10; and that at least the juries were able to appreciate Patricias performance! A top 10 was a good achievement in what for me was the best year in a long long time.

Joanna said in an interview about her song "The song makes me very emotional. It is one of those songs that make you think of a special moment that has changed your life. "

In recent years, I had high hopes for Patricia Kaas and Amaury Vassili (and Anggun, before I heard her song ). And of course Natasha St-Pier (back in 2001).

But this year, I don't know if I should have expectations given the lineup proposed by France 3. I'm afraid our entry will be another weird and cheap nonsense, just because our broadcaster does not want to win.

It's good to know that France 3 is seeking new faces for the contest but I mean, a 1 Direction copycat and a couple of weirdos (Twin Twin? WTF :? I'm not here for a Tellier reloaded type of song)... Is that all they can come up with? Come on.

I don't know anything about Joanna, but to me, she seems to be the wisest choice to make out of these three participants.

Only just got round to watching this. Twin Twin are amazing! Love this song, really hope it turns out to be their Eurovision entry. If so, it would be up there with France's best.

(I also loved Tellier)
