Re: FRANCE 2012 - Anggun
Just because the stats are like this, doesn't make it any better? Well the main problem is that the whole concept about representing our nations/countries are dying in favor of imperialism and anti-nation ideology. I thought ESC was a project to bring Europe together and get to know and appreciate all of Europe?, instead it's becoming the entertainment aspect of the EU instead; deleting European diversity in the name of music.
But how is it diverse if all songs will be in English? The last part is a myth, it's not true that a majority understand English, in some countries English is not even the 2nd or 3rd most known language. Yes it's true that English might be the most widely known language, but it has been exaggerated to fit the "English in ESC" agenda though.
Well, I am one of those who are connected to the music and melodies, not the words. In some examples I can even feel more connected without understanding. I find beauty in different languages, and it also helps the songs building certain unique characters which gets lost if all gets sung in the same language.
The second part was said in jest and the first part is just truth. How many recent non-English singing winners have we had? The stats don't lie. Whether your song is good or bad, it has a better chance of winning if done in English, I don't see why people have such a problem with that.

And I don't hate non-english songs. My 3 favourites last year were all sung in other languages (France, Bulgaria and Cyprus) and I appreciated the diversity, but from a more distant view, singing in English makes total sense as more countries will understand what is being said and can connect with the song more.
