The morning after..

I think this is the most down a national final result has ever got me, even with it being something I saw coming a month in advance. I feel it's because Erika went above and beyond with that performance. That literally was my dream entry right there. It hurts so much to rewatch the performance thinking of what could have been.

Actually, Aksel's song grew on me. It's definitely one of the better ballads we got this year. He's a good vocalist (though a little static), but the staging effects really elevate the song for me. And I even rated this to be the best performance for the night. So I can get it winning.

While the IJ killed Erika's chances of winning, but in hindsight, I feel the staging also played a part in sabotaging her and not winning the televote in a landslide. It was a great song, but that staging is just not good. It's not tacky, it is just silly and underwhelming. The song didn't quite come to live.

I do think she overdid it on the staging.

Yes, I'm surprised it took you this long to enjoy it. But then as you mentioned, you're still not huge on the song. The performance though was something else. So much fun.
Of course the majority will describe my opinion as racism and sexism, but I don't care.
After all I'm heterosexual man. She did a fantastic job with "eye-candy" performance.

Also I like that "Cicciolina" was performed on her national language.
With better song and this performance it could be "Decadence" 2.0.

P.S : possibly "Decadence" is my all-time # 2 song from all NFs (only behind one entry from :se: Melodifestivalen), which wasn't selected for Eurovision.

For once, really only for once I thought Finland would get it right. I can't believe this bland piece of damn got only 2 points less than Cicciolina. I'm speechless. I am 100% sure IJ are jealous and quaking that their own country will have less chances if the best song wins in the NF they're voting. No other explanation.

Opera Skala, Emma, Eini, Mikael Saari, and now Erika....

Now lets move on to :fi:!!

I´m really a huge fan of ballads, but this is sadly one of the weaker ones this year. He sings really well, but the melody is rather uninteresting in my opinion and I waited the whole time for a climax, but this song doesn´t really have one. And I have to admit that these three minutes felt much longer in my opinion :(

All in all I give this song :3:, I don´t see this qualifying for the grand final and I´ll forget it very fast afterwards, but it´s at least not as cheesy as the snoozefest from :fr:.

Wow, I get disappointment but that's just really delusional...

Seriously, who actually expected a song and performance like Cicciolina to get max points from the professional jury? They put it high enough, at the 3rd place. And since I watched the 2017 Finnish NF, Emma's song felt like a heard-it-a-hundred-times-before typical ESC entry that I couldn't believe was the fan-favorite, so I imagine the jurors must've reacted similarly if they were the reason it didn't win.

Yeah  I'm still trying to get over today's horrific results

One of the most horrible NF-nights I can remember, I even hate Portugal's female song :/

YLE should try super final after final's juryvotes and televotes result in next year's UMK.

Still not getting, why Erika didn´t win here... would have been my new Nr. 1, now somewhere near the end in my ranking.

Just to describe these professionals a bit ( taking Russia as it's my home country ):

Tutta Larsen - radio and tele host, pretended to be singer but doesn't have any hit. I only remember her being hosting some MTV shows in 2000-2006
Oskar Kuchera - actor and TV host. Now hosts some trashy TV shows sometimes, that's it
Elena Pinjoyan - never heard of her. Wiki says she is theater director, screenwriter, theater teacher
Marina Gubina - total noname, doesn't even have Wiki page. Actress, TV host and proud mom of three as per her Instagram page with 954(!!!) subscribers

So, are we sure these people are professionals who should decide on other's country SONG contest entry? I really doubt it xqueenbitch

Well, to quote my earlier post...

I'm surprised at how varied the Finnish jury quality is. The Estonian jury was basically a who's who of the big names in our music scene and the UK gets bloggers?

The disparity between different countries' juries and their expertise is the problem. The Estonian jury for example consisted of:

NOEP, an electronic pop artist who has had some reasonable international success
Liis Lemsalu, one of our biggest pop stars
Laura Põldvere, who you all probably know, an established musician (although both her Eurovision songs don't really represent her work well)
Erik Morna, a notable music critic and a radio DJ
Heidy Purga, a radio producer who also pretty much created Eesti Laul

So disappointing, he sings well but that's all what I find appealing about this, the song itself is quite bland and unimpressive, I listened it and then forgot its melody almost immediatelly, which is never a good sign for me.. It's a shame, there was a better option...

So none of you really, honestly, thought Erika's performance was absolutely hilariously tasteless? You really watched that mess on actual fire and went "this is perfection, so beautiful, I'm crying. It's like a renaissance painting come to life!"

I...

At least that explains Samanta Tina.

LOL! Actually I wouldn't say it's tasteless. I don't find it tacky. It's just lackluster and plain silly and cheap (in terms of quality).
As for Latvia, that's another level of trainwreck that I don't want to comment further again in case I upset some people.

You're telling me this country really allowed Mikael Saari come second and third TWICE with two of the most beautiful ballads they could ever send to choose Krista and Sandhja, and JUST the year they needed to send something like Erika's song, they choose the random ballad. I just can't. At this point I just hope they get rid of the juries and let people decide.
