It's been the same in the previous years and I find it more annoying than I probably should tbh, as it seems to basically just be a jury of fans who were lucky to make some connections. Especially more so when the spokesperson for that jury isn't even British. It's not like we're short of people here who could do it.

You're right. Why not this gentleman next time? xangel

So there was this moment when I thought I'd be genuinely entertained by something that my country sent to the contest...

That feeling is far gone. There's no denying Akseli's talent, but the song is mediocre at its best. It's just not good enough to be anything besides boring.

Then this is the biggest disgrace of the year by quite a wide margin. This easily beats the Norwegian scandal. If the organizers have any backbone they just rescind the result and send Cicciolina anyway as they were just sabotaged by a cynical international jury. I'm sure Aksel understands, if not he can just eat even more comfort food.

Only barely though proving once again youtube views mean absolutely nothing.
Well, they do, but they have to be analysed. Cicciolina had obvious international appeal among Eurovision fans. That's a niche that doesn't mean anything in a domestic competition. A track like The Roop - On Fire going slightly viral among people who normally don't even care for Eurovision does mean something. They had to beat a very strong effort by Monique and they did so convincingly.

I know for a fact that devoted fans voted for Cicciolina many times over. And it *still* wasn't enough for a landslide victory. That can only mean, that not as many people voted for it as was expected.
Not a huge surprise after that dumpster fire of a performance. She designed it herself, btw, so blame her. She went the "more is more" route that Krista swears by.
Let's be real for a moment. It would have stayed in the semi just like all the rest, so who cares? Just dance to it in your own living room instead of having the vapours over one unimportant vote like a bunch of actresses.

I mean, I do understand why the people who like it care, obviously everyone wants to see their faves at ESC.

The thing is, Eurovision fandom can often function as a sort of echo chamber where a song is hyped up much more than its actual chances and its supporters are inevitably surprised when the real result becomes clear - the same happened with Jaagup in Eesti Laul. I think everyone should always consider the possibility of even a supposed favorite losing, just in case.

I said the following about Cicciolina more than a month ago: "Staging isn't going to be particularly difficult although they have to be careful not to go full blown camp, because I feel that's going to hurt its chances as you're going to feign quality instead of showing quality (the lyric video is very good in that regard, it's certainly campy but not straight down the rabbit hole). "

They went full blown camp and got destroyed. It's still a shame though because staging is usually not that hard to fix and at a NF they should just vote based on the potential of the song and the performer. Cicciolina should have won. Aksel is just going to bore people.

Why choose a ballad, when we already have so many ballads, and at the same time you have "Cicciolina"

I really start to think this years edition will be a bit boring :(

"Cicciolina" is a song perfectly made for Eurovision. It should be a party, not a voice competition. Aksel's song is sooo generic and we've heard songs like that many times before.

Erika served us attitude, a stage show, bears, outfit, a catchy song with a great message. SHE GAVE US EVERYTHING.

I'm SO sad and disappointed

The voting here was one of those stupid things as well where everyone had to look at Cicciolina's jury flop, with the lines still being left open, Aksel sitting pretty at the top with a potential Bananas problem right beneath him. That kind of stuff sways voters. At that point you're not going to vote for who you might believe is hopeless. To some that could have looked like a two horse race thing. Also, who thought placing one guy into an NF with five female acts was a good idea? Finland could have had such a thrilling, daring, exciting, charming, loveable entry this year and they go the man with indistinguishable ballad route. I was so close to having an eccentric schlager NF favourite finally win its selection. So close. I hate how my enjoyment of these songs is always confined to national finals.

Why do people always think a ballad is simply a voice showcase? For my part, I liked both Elina Nechayeva's song and to an extent, this Finnish entry because of the composition, I generally don't even care much about vocals since that's not my area of expertise.
