Re: FINLAND 2014

It's time for another genuine entry in Finnish! I hope they haven't been too scared by the 2010/2012 flops... sure 2011 and 2013 faired slightly better, but those were crap entries and a country should hold its head up high instead. I say there's more honor in not qualifying with genuine good entries, than flopping in the final with pure craps. Of course, 2010/2012 both deserved qualification and 2010 would have qualified without a problem if the EUROphobic anti-diversity juries haven't prevented it. I just hope they haven't given up on sending genuine entries, after a bad entry in 2013 it's time for a good one again.

I think "Painovoima" is the best of those songs, but I don't like the singers.

Everything about "Kertakäyttösydän" is really cute! The song is just lacking a bit.

From what I've heart so far, only this 3 songs make a chance to win in Finland:
* Lauri Mikkola - Going Down
* Mikko Pohjola - Säghyn reunalla
* Dennis Fagerström - My Little Honey Bee

And I like also some parts of Clarissa's song, but they have to re-write the final half of the song.

In Finland we don't really care about the language of the song. It's a song contest not a language contest. 2010 entry wasn't even a proper Finnish, it was a dialect.

Yes, it's a song contest, and languages are part of making the songs (otherwise we could have instrumental songs!). I won't go further into that discussion, but to deny that languages have their own linguistic tones and melodies and characteristics (that also effect songs), I think is to underestimate the power of languages and linguistic diversity.

Dialect or not, it was in Finnish...

But my point wasn't necessarily the languages, more that in 2010 and 2012 Finland sent (imo) genuine entries, while in 2011 and 2013 they sent wannabe-ish crap (which happened to be in coincidentally? English aswell). But of course, these are just my opinions. I just hope that Finland won't be scared of sending genuine entries again just because they happened to be less successful than the others (which weren't that successful either!), and this is what I meant more or less.

What about Sweden? They haven't been entering anything Swedish (genuine) for quite a long time as far as I know ;)

Of course, there was the Perreli character back in 2008, if we discount the language. Hm :?, on second thoughts maybe they should remain international

Firstly, this thread is about Finland and not Sweden. Secondly, I guess I have to underline once more that with genuine I don't necessarily mean an entry sung in a native language, but more the entry in a general perspective (music style, performance, language, genre, originality etc.).

I'd love for Sweden to send an entry in Swedish or more "genuine" entries, though I do think that both Anna in 2010 and Loreen in 2012 were pretty "genuine" in their respective genres and styles. None of them came across as forced or wannabe-ish.

I'm not sure what the comment about Perrelli is suppose to mean?

Re: FINLAND 2014

True, of course, but sometimes threads become interwoven, there's no such thing as sealed up subjects ;)

I see what you mean by genuine now, but that's quite subjective then, I would say.

Sweden was one of the countries I hated most in eurovision, then 2010 came and everything changed. I have had no reason to rechange my mind ever since, Sweden's doing ok, regardless of whether it's genuine or not.
Now only Denmark and the Uk remain xgaah

About Perreli, well... of course you know

Back to Finland now, before Matt comes rightfully in. Ooops...I've nothing to say

Re: FINLAND 2014

Just listened to the already presented songs.
Some decent ones there, but my favorit was "Clarissa feat. Josh Standing - Top Of The World"

Re: FINLAND 2014

For those 6 my ranking is:

1. MIAU - God/Drug (I'm not sure how this would do at the ESC, but I like it)
2. Lili Lambert - Let Me Take You There (I could imagine it doing well at the ESC too)
3. Softengine - Something Better (Nothing extraordinary, but it's alright)
4. Hukka ja Mama - Selja (Different, I think it could be improved though)
5. Mikko Pohjola - Sängyn Reunalla (Didn't really move me)
6. Dennis Fagerström - My Little Honey Bee (Not that bad to listen to but sounds like way too many forgotten random radio songs from the last 25 years, nothing special)

All in all my Top 12 from the Demo Versions is:

1. Jasmin Michaela
2. MIAU
3. Lili Lambert
4. Hanna Sky
5. Softengine
6. Hukka ja Mama
7. MAKEA
8. Madcraft
9. Clarissa feat. Josh
10. Mikko Pohjola
11. Dennis Fagerström
12. Lauri Mikkola

Re: FINLAND 2014

Lili Lambert is the only one from the new 6 i'm rather keen on. It's interesting electro pop once again.. chorus perhaps spoils it a little as it's overly familiar in parts. Overall it's good though.

I'm quite the fan of garage rock but I like mine rawer and with more of a bite. I don't think i'm keen on MIAU. The lyrics came across as a bit lame as well, sort of cave womanish (I don't know if that was the intention). The rest I don't really have comments for. Hukka ja Mama's song is ok but it's pretty standard fare. My feeling towards it are very indifferent.

All said and done, i'm going to throw a fit if Jasmin isn't chosen to represent Finland. I think her song is just wonderful and she's beyond charming on stage. SEND HER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: FINLAND 2014

I feel that the Finns will choose either Dennis or Clarissa&Josh; those are such "safe" ESC choices...

Re: FINLAND 2014

Been listening to the 12 songs and so far the only one awakening any sort of musicality in my senses was Mikko Pohjola's... Yasmin was interesting, but waaaay too repetitive. One can't help thinking something good could come out of it, but not as it stands.

The rest I found indifferent, amateurish or downright silly, eg clarissa ft. josh. Jesus.

Anybody, is this it?, or are there more to come for further semis? Last year I remember there was quite a good bunch of very good songs (although we ended up with boring queen bee...)

Re: FINLAND 2014

For me, Lilit is choking all 3 mins of her performance. Thought she could have done better. She's my biggest disappointment of Finnish Pre.

So, the only participant to go to Denmark is Jasmin! xheart
