So Korpiklaani's song was worse than all these 40 songs? T()T()

Re: FINLAND 2012

Disappointing. Still searched through the bands in the hope of some metal. Alchemy Road - Burning, is the closest I could find. My favourite song that I found, though was Iconcrash - We Are The Night.

Mickey, Iconcrash's song is my favorite too! Also, please note these versions are demos only, which menas better versions will be produced for the 12 ones qualifying here.

Apart from the piossibility YLE management doesn't want to risk having to host ESC again, it's also not unlikely that Korpiklaani has actually never applied and the whole affair was just a rumour. Their official site doesn't mention a thing about Eurovision. Mind it that big names usually refuse to compete in national selections and demand to have their place secured.

It`s not the first time when YLE does that. Remember last years Cardiant circus...
Or in 2010 with Amadeus?
2000-Nightwish?

I guess YLE is just another bribed broadcaster

ehm.. http://satumaa.yle.fi/umk/2011-09-2...piklaani-osallistuu-uuden-musiikin-kilpailuun there is even a interview from the band members saying they want to get better known in Finland. They haven't had a channel to bring themselves out (because of the metal label they've been categorised)

Re: FINLAND 2012

Helsinki, Finland - The Finnish national selection is well on its way: The top 40 selected demos of those sent to Finland's Broadcaster YLE, for the UMK 2012 are now online. The hosts will be Anne Lainto & Joona Kortesmäki and the Grand Final will be held at the Helsinki Ice Hall.

A jury of eleven music professionals has selected 40 demos out of the 540 submitted to the next round of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, UMK, 2012. The top 40 demos are available for listening at the UMK website where you can also find interviews with all the jury members.

“A record breaking number of demos in the Finnish Eurovision history were submitted this year and the standard of the songs was very high. Therefore it was not an easy task for the jury to pick the forty best songs to the next round of the competition.” says the producer Anssi Autio from YLE.

What will happen next?
It's also the judges who will now select the top twelve entries. Final studio versions of these songs will be produced by the best producers in Finland. The top twelve songs will be revealed during the first show of UMK, to be broadcasted on YLE2 on the 27th of January 2012 at 21.00 (Finnish time). After this, the development of the songs and the artists will be followed in four other shows before the Grand Final on all Fridays of February 2012.

The hosts
The hosts of UMK 2012 are Anne Lainto and Joona Kortesmäki. Joona is a host of a popular TV-show called Lauantaiprojekti and he is a talented songwriter and stand-up comedian. Anne, who has previously worked on one of YLE's radio channels, is excited about her new role as a hostess in UMK and expects a lot of challenges from her new job.

The Grand Final of UMK 2012 will take place at the Helsinki Ice Hall on February 25th. Tickets for the Grand Final can be bought online.

Re: FINLAND 2012

The Top 40 songs entered in the Finnish national selection for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest UMK have been on-line to listen for five full days now. The visitors to the page have a possibility to like their favourites and the results are published in a top 40 “barometer”.
The visitors can press the “Tykkään” button to like their favourite songs, and apparently one vote per an IP address is recorded per day. The results of the likes will play some part in the jury’s decision later on, which 12 or so demos will get further production with top producers.

The first place has been steadily kept by Martina Aitolehti, a former model who knows how to use the publicity machine. Despite she was recently dropped from her recording contract with Universal Music Finland aftert disappointing sales of her debut album, she is still forcing ahead with her singing career. Her entry to UMK is called Checkmate.

Some others of the current top ten, like Malin Kojola’s entry and Pernilla Karlsson’s demo (the only one sung in Swedish) will have had support from Finland’s Swedish speaking minority, who are usually very active in Eurovision voting. Dance veterans DCX has one of the catchiest numbers that will have pleased many Eurovision purists. Stig has been previously known as rapper Stig Dogg and infamous for his rude lyrics, even if this time his style is different.

Many of the rock bands have been gaining steady support in the barometer, but the big surprise is how Jari & Taika, whose song can be described as the most traditional Finnish song in the selection, has now risen to the second place. Either fans of traditional Finnish schlager and danceband music have been liking the song actively, or then the song’s success is some kind of silent protest from people not happy with the new direction of the Finnish Eurovision selections. In general the differences in the number of likes are still very small and the top ten has been changing almost daily. Many artists are using social media to encourage their followers to vote for them.

Re: FINLAND 2012

I truly recommend you guys Iconcrash that has been chosen in the 40 best (from now on, a jury will choose 12 to qualify and in the spring the winner of Finnish ESC is known): http://satumaa.yle.fi/umk/kilpailijat-2012/iconcrash-we-are-the-night

If you like, and even if you wouldn't like, press the "Tykkään!" box under the audio box! They are so awesome. The song is something Eurovision hasn't yet met and it's exactly what Finland should bring to it next year! If you like and click Tykkään! you will help them get to Baku, because those votes count!
