As always, I have a little too much freetime  , am a bit of a nerd :geek:, so I decided to check out if the last encounters for each match were counted as result, which countries would qualify to Russia 2018 in the end? I decided to check out the current standings and groups for all qualifications around the globe and continue on their result, to see how it would end in each group.

I have used this site to look for past meetings between teams. If two teams has never met, I have used the current fifa ranking and randomized the results.
I will in this post announce the results in Africa (CAF), Asia (AFC) and North, Central America + Caribbean (CONCACAF), While announcing the next three regions in the next post, that will be up someday tomorrow.

So here it goes:

Africa (CAF)

Asia (AFC)

North, Central America + Caribbean (CONCACAF)

Intecontinental Playoff AFC - CONCACAF:

More to come! ;)

Here is the full list of countries competing in Russia 2018 (alphabetical order):

Well it is absolutely not certain it will be these 32 countries in the end, but we'll see what happens! :D

Malta 1-5 Scotland. Potential banana skin avoided. I'll take that result all day long.

fun fact (well not fun for me..)

For the first time after 17 years :sl: football team went from 0:2 to 2:2,Meanwhile there were 6 cases when we were leading with at least 2:0 and then the match ended with a draw or a loss

I must say, Europe has to be the absolute worst when it comes to not only holding grudges, but also influencing sports because of those grudges. Armenia and Azerbaijan / Serbia & Kosovo. I say - draw should be based purely on pots, and not on silly political reasons, if two teams refuse to play against each other - let them be! No points for them! Look at other confederations - South Korea plays against North Korea, Algeria plays against Egypt, China plays against Taiwan... um... "Chinese Taipei" xcrazy Even Rwanda and Burundi play against Congo DR, even though they had a bloodbath not so long ago.

Oh, and of course we had to be unlucky as heck :? We got the strongest team from the weakest pot and guess what - draw

To be honest, I think the strongest team of Pot 6 is Kosovo

...and this brings me to the subject of the incredible unluck of Iceland in terms of getting weak teams into their group
I support Iceland since 2010. In the World Cup 2010 qualifiers Iceland ended up in a 5er group without a Pot 6 team and the same happened in the Euro 2012 qualifiers. Then, in the qualifiers for WC 2014 Iceland themselves were in Pot 6. Ironically, they had a lucky draw back then, getting weak teams of all other pots.
However in the Euro 2016 qualifiers we got Kazakhstan from Pot 6 instead of weak teams such as San Marino and so on
Iceland were in Pot 2 for the Euro 2016 qualifiers and I hoped for an easy group and what did they get? Three other participants of Euro 2016, and probably the best teams of Pot 5 & 6
I dont complain as Iceland had so many great moments in the last few years but I still miss a 4:0, 5:0 thrashing against a minor side. Would be fun to watch :D

No idea what happened with Croatia there a couple of nights ago, aside from the fact that they played behind closed doors. But not even 2 months ago they could have trashed Turkey 10-0 in France and now they draw at home 1-1? xthink

Strange. At least for someone who hasn't watched the match.

For sure it is an interesting group but I'd rule Kosovo out. Drawing with Finland isn't that much of an achievement, despite being first match and all. Having followed Finnish football for over 10 years...it is simply stalled since then. It's like the country doesn't care. Even Iceland went places recently. But Finland resists developing their football. Wouldn't be surprised with a last place for them but hope not, hope that they can come through with a few surprises. But damn, it's more than time for Finland to awake football-wise.

It's like as long as if things are ok with Leijonat in ice hockey other sports don't really matter then X-OI
