England will lose this evening.

We do not beat Germany. It is just a thing we do not do. When it comes to football our legs turn to spaghetti at the first glimpse of a German.
GET A LOAD OF THIS BIG FAT STUPID IDIOT

I am sincere and I had also written it days ago, England with his game would have bothered Germany a lot. I believed in a German victory only because "the Germans are hard to die" but ... Germany's game showed many shortcomings: unbalanced forward midfield, not fluency in attacking maneuvers (often confusing) and weak defense. Everyone was blinded after the 4-2 victory over Portugal.

The game, bad as few, was lost not so much for Sterling's goal but for Müller's mistake. I swear I was very angry for this golden opportunity that would have changed the game. If Cristiano Ronaldo had that chance, Portugal would have taken Belgium into extra time.

Tonight honor to the English national team that proves to be the best defense of the tournament. I believe that the road to the final is quite simple but the other opponents will not stand by and watch. I hope Sweden wins tonight because, better than Ukraine, they can bother England. The question I ask myself is "how will the England national team behave with more balanced national teams?". In the final, if reaches it, will win because driven by the fury of the public or will melt like an ice cube under the sun? We'll see.

@ Mauve: here a cycle of German football closes and another one will open. Applause to Löw for what he has given to Germany but now space for a new coach and the very young players of the winning U-21.

So, finally the Löw era comes to an end. xcheer

So much wasted potential in recent years.
I am happy that the suffering is finally over. I truly hope that Flick will be able to form a better team.

Congrats England! Finally your trauma is over! :ROFLMAO:

I hope so. I Just hope that Flick will not continue what Löw did in the recent years. That would be my biggest fear. I also hope that Flick will let some players like Kimmich play on the position where he feels comfortable. Löw didn't do this and now look what happened.

Congrats :en: . When we put everything on the table tonight, a better team is advancing to the next round.

As much as I love :de: , I have to admit this was a very bad tournament. Second bad tournament in a row. The match against :pt: was the only good thing here, but it was only a temporary spark of hope. The next match already showed how things are really standing. Long-term speaking, this formula doesn't work anymore, there are way too many problems to list here, and I think it's time for Low to leave the bench to someone else.I know I would certainly do that right after the match ended.

:de: has the potential for much more.

Weheyy! Go England! :en:

It is really nice to see England progress, especially after comments I've read about the team on social media over the last few weeks.
ESPECIALLY towards Southgate, even though he advanced us well through the World Cup, and now this
xcheerxcheer

It's always fun for a change to knock the smug face off of a successful team too... ;)

First of all: Löw already announced his retirement months ago, Flick will take over after the tournament. Thank god! Flick did an excellent job with Bayern and I think he will give our national team a positive impetus and reinvent our playing style

Unpopular opinion, but in a context of the last three years this tournament wasn't a disappointment but the logical consequence of a negative developement. We have the reputation of being a Turniermannschaft , a team, that always delivers when it counts, regardless of how bad their previous results have been. But even a Turniermannschaft can't do wonders if the puzzle pieces dont go together and if the tactics don't work nor fit to the players on the pitch. What could we possibly expect of a team that since 2018 lost to South Korea, Mexico, Austria, North Macedonia (on home ground), 0-6 to Spain, 0-3 and 2-4 to Netherlands, and drew with Serbia, Turkey (both on home ground), twice with Switzerland and so on...

I am kind of grateful we still get to see a glimpse of the german power football that we have been notorious for in the match against Portugal which was our best match since 2017.

Retrospectively I don't think we played bad tonight. We gave away to many dangerous set pieces as I pointed out in a previous post. On the other hand, we defended them accurately. England didn't have many clear opportunities, but when our defense line once pushed up too much, they took advantage of it immediately. Very clinical and professional performance of the English side. We didnt create enough but when we did it got dangerous. Pickford had two important saves and Müller just messed it up when he had the chance to bring us back to the business. England won deservedly but we were a worthy opponent. And those people who watched some German matches in the last couple of years knew that this performance was within the limits of our ressources under the current circumstaces.

And yes, weve got potential for more, but the team needs a new tactical impetus and the players have to get used according to their abilities.

@whiteshoes

Even as someone who only watches football during torunaments I agree completely with you. (y)

Do you think we´ll see some retirements from the team?? And do you think Hummels or Müller will stay??

I can see Kroos retiring, maybe also Gündogan. Especially the latter one never convinced me in the National team, he plays very good at Man City but in the "Mannschaft" he´s almost always invisible. xshrug

@ESC94

A new coach is also a new chance for all those players who couldn't their best under Löw so I don't think we will see many retirements. Müller is not the kind of person who would voluntarily retire, I am not sure about Hummels. Though, I believe we still need Hummels because we have a lack of good, young central defenders. I am curious whether Flick will even bring back Boateng to the national team...
Gündogan won't retire, I don't think Kroos will either. I believe Gündogan and Kroos don't work well together, because they are too similar. It's better to have Goretzka/Kimmich beside one of Gündogan/Kroos. Kroos is high up in the hierarchy of the national team, would Flick even dare to bench him? And if he does, how would Kroos deal with it? Kroos is I think a little conceited, he might feel insulted.
Let's how things will turn out and what kind of ideas Flick is gonna try to implement.

Truth is that the World Championship next year comes too early for Flick and the team. I doubt that Flick will be able to "reform" the team so soon. But I have hope that he may change the tactics over the past months.
