Well, no surprise winner in the end, things went as expected. Would have been nice to see Ollie win, but I'm fine with Alika too.
Actually had my top 3 as the superfinalists, can't really complain I suppose.
Jury putting Bedwetters that high was a bit of a surprise tho'. The song is good, but their vocals weren't really all that great, I thought they'd be docked points for that. But then again, Eesti Laul final juries tend to be all over the place anyway.
And they've given songs with shoddy vocals high places before, Wingman comes to mind. It was nice to see Bedwetters do well, but it likely cost Ollie his victory in the end, oops.
Well, we'll never know for certain, but since it wasn't some overwhelming landslide, having all the rock fans behind one song may have been enough. Well, that's the way the cookie crumbles I guess.
Just unfortunate luck! Most years we don't get a single good rock song in EL, and now we get two nice ones.. and they sink each-others chances.
I think Ollie had better vocals in the final, but IMO they overdid it with the shaky blurry camera effects a little. He said he plans to be back to EL, if he has the right song. I hope he'll come back with another good one!
And maybe the stars will align better that year! Also hope him and Bedwetters doing so well this year will encourage more good rock bands and artists to take part. Just.. maybe not all in one year!
I guess now we have to wait and see what happens when May rolls around.
Still have no solid idea what Alika's chances might be! We'll have a better picture once we get all the songs. If we don't get too many strong ballads, she could certainly have an audience.. there are ballad lovers out there after all, even among televoters. But too early to tell at this point. I hope she'd have enough fans to sneak in the final at least, where jury love might be enough for another mid-table result.
The televote part of the voting could be a bit of a let down, but hey, getting some point from juries for 30 minutes would still be nice.
But I wouldn't necessarily rule out a decent televote score either. Really could go any which way.
Let's hope they won't mess up the staging. Shouldn't be too hard to have something simple and classy for a ballad like this, seems harder to ruin than something up-tempo and complicated.
But you never know with our delegation. Some lovely dramatic lighting, good camera angles, maybe something cool on the LED screens. Alika said her first thought about Eurovision after winning was 'how are we going to get the piano to Liverpool'.
And she'd like to have it there! But whether it'll be feasible, who knows. Maybe her label will fork out some money, since our staging budget is probably 10€.
I guess we'll see! But I hope they'll manage something lovely and impactful that fits the song. With televoters, having good staging to complete the package will be a big help.
