A song heard a thousand times before … but people seem to love it. To me it is boring, and bland. Estonia used to be one of my most favorite ESC-countries, but this song is a huge disappointment. 3 points.

Well said. You took the words right out of my mouth (or maybe rather keyboard). It feels like a blander version of Polish entry last year also with an ethnic Swedish singer with nervous higher notes.

I liked this effect at 2:25 way more than the Storm overlay because the girl looks so real and then she fades like a ghost. A moment! How did they do it? Was it also a pre-recorded overlay? Because it's not just a hologram or anything, she's very real at first, isn't she?

edit: Just saw it and figured it out. Uku starts running in the pre-recorded clip and then the actual footage starts and he's still standing. Yes, another overlay.

The best thing to come out of tonight's show was Elina's new single.

I like what I heard, do you know the name of the song?

Thank God I didn't stay to witness this horrendous playback though, the guy who opened the show playbacked as well. I looked forward to Elina's performance more than anything else, what a poor and lazy move to make guests playback. I take it it was the same for Getter? xthink The production changes this year definitely weren't to my liking.

"La Voce Dell'alba" and is released on Monday.

Getter and Elina+Jüri were singing live though!

Thank you xheart

Then shame on Elina and the opener xslap

Yeah, quite disappointing, to be honest. I kinda understood why Laura lip synced last year as she was singing in literal water and would have been electrocuted if the mic was on. But Elina... probably just been travelling as always and had no time for proper rehearsals.

And Elina should have been THE opener. It was such a nice tradition! The guest host randomly opening the show promoting his newest single was too random.

Another huge disappointment by my favourite ESC country. I don't hate it, I think it's ok, but definitely not my taste and there is NO Estonia in this song. Overproduced, overthought, not a single glimpse of authenticity. Perhaps they set expectations too high since Urban Symphony and other strongly identifying entries and in this view I think Eesti Laul has to change the song selection method, because last years were highly disappointing.
I think it will qualify easily and maybe will do well, with the strong staging they seem so eager to look for, but I repeat: this will never be an Estonian entry to my ears.

It's a 5 from me - I wouldn't skip it on the Official Eurovision Song Contest Tel Aviv 2019 album but I always demand a little more from Estonia because I know they can and have done better

A storm like this /
can break a man with ease /
but when it all calms down /
we're still safe and sound

There, I rewrote the chorus to sound better in about five minutes. :p

if you are doing it already, why not walk the extra mile???

A Storm-like tits,
can break a man to bits
but when the milk comes down
we will be safe and drown.

While I agree I also think what they did last night was cool. Obviously the point of Taukar's performance was to set up the surprise of him hosting. I knew it from the moment they told us he was opening because there is just no other reason why he should be the one to open the show. He was a great host and a much needed break from the usual Sepp and Avandi who I'm sick and tired of.

Difficult to be satisfied if the selection you had to make was between 12 rotten tomatoes ... not a good year, but even we can not have excellent quality every year.

And yeah btw ... for those who say shit like: "I come to expect more from Eesti Laul", "Estonia is usually my favorite, but this year Storm sucks", "I hope Estonia fails, so they learn from it" etc. I have only one question - "How is it that even if we send stand out entries like GTY and La Forza our ceiling still is 2nd half of top 10?"

Basically whatever we do now, we are not winning ESC, which kind of gives us the freedom to send whatever shit we want :) ... so dont expect us to deliver masterpieces each year, ok?

Still waiting for the full results! Probably not before monday tho'. It's a shame they didn't mention the winning %, usually they do. Would be interesting to know if this was a close run or a landslide.

Some more random thoughts! :D

So far, there's quite a bit of variety with the selected songs, with several more 'unique' entries potentially to come. That could work in our favour, being a bland little oasis of normality among all the kooky and OTT stuff. Whether that would be enough to get us anywhere is another question.

I hope they're gathering up good backing vocalists as we speak! We can afford 4 of them so surely that should be enough to get Victor sounding half-way decent. Get him some singing classes while we're at it.

Wonder if the pre-recorded footage will be allowed in Eurovision or not. If not, a similar effect could possibly be achieved with clever use of camera angles and LED-wall/floor, if those are an option. If not, they'll have to do without. Like I said before, the storm theme could lend itself well to some cool visuals & lighting effects, if our team manages to use the potential well. Overall the camera work & staging in the final was pretty decent, so a complete re-do should not be necessary.

If they keep the int. juries, I hope they manage to have them judge the final performances next time, not just semis. Do away with the pre-recorded backings to make it more fair. I think all the acts deserve the chance to refine & polish their entries and be judged based on the final product, not the 'first draft' as it were. Also it's strange to have juries & televoters judging two different performances, essentially.

Actual jury rankings in Eurovision should be taken into account this year when deciding next year's Eesti Laul jury. If Victor bombs just as hard there too, they were on to something. But if he does significantly better in May, we should consider getting only European jury members, or scrapping the int. jury completely. Their only job is to vote the same way that ESC juries will, otherwise they might as well not be there.

This is hardly the first time we've sent a MOR or bland entry, so it's not like our perfect run of outstanding songs has suddenly been ruined! We tend to find something good every few years, and rest of the times it's eh or meh or okay. In the overall ranking of our entries, I'd probably put Storm somewhere in the middle.
