Now we know how butthurt Christer Björkman must have been, when Sweden was announced so early last year in the televote. With the new system, the actual televote ranking is not comprehensible.

With the new presentation it would be more humiliating for :se:.
Btw we dont know if it is Björkmans Idea.

People seems to think Björkman has huge power in EBU, he has not, he´s not even in the reference group anymore

it would be downright humiliating for sweden to get 21 points right at the end of the reveal though, more than the way it happened then. this certainly was not his idea.

I really hope they show the reaction of contestants receiving their televotes, otherwise all this concept doesn't make sense.
Michal Szpak's reaction after receiving all those televotes was one of the most epic moments in 2016, for example.

All in all, I don't think we were lacking any suspense. There was already enough drama and excitement with the new system. This new change looks a bit unnecessary.

Not wanting to dance anymore, but I must dance
People like to talk but Cypriots (and Eleni fans) certainly didn't think it was over 'til Cyprus was announced as second place, the same could be said about past Contests as well when it came down to the Top 2.

And, obviously, since I can't vote, I love seeing how audiences felt about the finalists and the surprise at what people connected with (or lack of), especially compared to online.

By the time their votes are allocated, we know how the juries feel about the finalists. Why then, do we have to sit through the televote
getting another recap about how they ranked them?

Oh so they aren't going to show the televote points at all but just add it to the jury points and only show the overall score? Horrible we even aren't going to see how many televoting points each song got except if you're an human calculator

This isn't going to make it more exciting or create more suspense so WHAT was the reason for changing it :?

EDIT: oh and I don't like they took away the excitement of which country was going to be called next

If used last year, it would only have remained 92p to give out with :at: and :se: still waiting for their vote from the audience, game over.

This new change is not good at all, I really hope it fucks up so they revert back for 2020

Still hoping for it to be a April Fools Joke

well, I'm not into this televote change too but to be the devil's advocate for once (or twice, thrice)

1st : unless you know how many points are given and you count at the same time, people won't know (aka the average viewer) how many points are left for 1st place or 2nd place, they will still think (2018 mode) "oh is Austria or Sweden gonna win ?"
it's certainly more entertaining for a casual viewer or an esc fan bad at maths like me that doesn't bother to count.

2nd : A 3rd place televote while being 22nd jury won't have its merit on TV and its praise and its 20seconds of fame. So we could feel bad for those "bad at juries good at televote". But let's be honest too : a last place jury is more likely NOT to win Eurovision even with being 1st at televote so they're just making room as you climb the jury ranking with the televote points for the real contenders. With the 2018 ESC, Italy is the first country to "beat" Austria, so at this point you're like "is Austria crashing and Italy winning ?", "is Austria gonna have more votes and still winning at the end ?", "Is there anybody that could beat Italy now while still having Austria in head ?" and what does matter for an average viewer is the winner, not the raking (more important for us ESC fans)

remember 2017, at some point you knew that Portugal was gonna win, they had a strong jury voting and they needed to crash hard with televoting to lose, at the time they were 10 countries left, we knew portugal was more likely to win. With that system, till the last second you don't know if Portugal has 0 points or 350.

The only thing I don't like about this system is that you know who is first with the juries but you don't know who is first with the audience. It kind of gives more importance to the jury vote, which is a bad decision IMHO . They should show the ranking of the Televote at the end of the vote while the winner is getting ready, so it's more obvious who won the Televote.

Most people wont be able to count to see if the remaining 1-2 countries can get enough points to win so it will be interesting until the end!

i think this announcement format has more upsides than downsides overall, but we will see how it works in practice

Since it is 2378p that will be given out, all that´s needed is a calculator and just keeping subtract each sum and you will see how much is left to give out

I didnt know everyone is sitting with a calculator opened and count how many points left
At least i wouldnt do it myself so i dont kill the intrigue for myself. I never counted points in 2016 so for me it wasnt obvious that russia cant beat Ukraine and it was very thrilling till the end
Old version: intrigue about what country will get this or that amount of poitns
New version: how many points will get named country
So its same
I think they partly try to prevent the situation when televoting winner doesnt win overall (2015 and 2016 cases)

Now that I'm giving this a second thought, not only we're taken away all the surprises, but (as already some people have mentioned) imagine being Benjamin or Cesar and you have to wait till last minute of the show to get crushed.. That's savage.
That's not how I would want ESC season to end, hearing sweden 21 points and austria 71 points "great they flopped, so israel wins".
Anyway, just some thoughts, I hope this will not be the case this year! I'll look at it with a fresh eye tomorrow!

It's 2016..... waiting for the end of the televote results..... the suspense is building..... more and more countries are called out, but one country at the bottom of the leaderboard is holding strong....

ALL OF A SUDDEN

I dont think this concept has been thought through completely. It can kill suspense and create new one at an other place. Last year it was lacking SO much suspense because they thought it was a great idea to make it look as if it was between Austria, Israel and Cyprus even if Austria got all points already and it was obvious he wouldn't win, that was purely bad. Now they can at least make that interesting if you have the 3-5 contestants that are left receiving their points shown and nobody knowing how many points each will get. But I agree, it somehow is unnecessary. Dont change a good system.

I know that but how many people will sit to count with a calculator during the most interesting part of ESC?
