They are using Madonna to promoting ESC in and as they used Justin Timberlake too 3 yers ago!

I guess it will help boost credibility to big artists who refuse to go if someone like Madonna is performing there, even as an interval. But at the same time, this seems like total pandering the fan community and I'd much prefer Israel to have an Israeli singer as it's interval. I'm not particularly all that excited for Madonna.

Yes, probably they have this in mind,. Btw Modonna converted to Kabbalah a few years ago, as far as I can remember. So in that sense she has some kjnd of religious connection to Israel.

Justin Timberlake's performance wasn't aired in the USA due to copyright issues and it can't even be seen on Youtube there I think.

Problem comes that mostly of local artists are refusing to take part as inerval act due that they follow the Shabbat rules on their weekend act.

This copyright issue in this case is due to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and with the initial broadcast and subsequent DVD sales. The best example I can give is Daria; during its original broadcast, the show had a prolific soundtrack used in episodes. In the VHS, DVD, and streaming syndication, however, generic music has been inserted. The same applies to older programs like The Wonder Years and WKRP In Cincinnati. When push comes to shove for the distributors, it's cheaper and less hassle to just replace the original songs with something similar sounding but generic instead of paying and wrangling music licensing and rights.

Viacom (through Logo TV) don't have an issue with showing the rest of the Contest since most of those songs won't present as high a fee in licensing and rights as say, a Justin Timberlake set; they might make an exception and pay out to show Madonna, though.
