I think Russia is safe solely because they are Russia. I mean they have top marks from Moldova, Serbia, Malta, Latvia, Ukraine etc.

this will be an interesting year

:bg: still is solid enough to make it

And yes I also think :ru: is in serious trouble this year (I mean it's by far no 2015 or 2016 material)

i think they are the safest contenders right now. others already had underwhelming performances (israel), bloody awful performances (russia, azerbaijan, belgium) or didn't take part of any of the shows (greece, ukraine........) idk if i'm missing any usual contender

Serbia?! Serbia (jury) gave 1 point to Sergey, one example. Latvian jury will not vote for Russia. Ukraine not for sure. :D

What does Malta have to do with Russia?

The countries in this semi that usually give high points (televoting) should be Latvia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine
Germany, Montenegro and Serbia often give above average. (Btw can anyone explain to me why montenegrin televoters put the Tolmachevy Sisters on #1 in the final? I don't get it)

Juries are a complete different story. I don't think there are guaranteed points from any country with juries. Juries so far did not seem to go for the pity vote (poland 2015 with only 10 points in the Semi). Will juries in this semi be more kind?
Russia for sure is in danger this year. At least there is room for points because it is not the jury friendliest semi.

Anyone heard the official soundtrack for ESC 2018....made by Orquestra Filarmonia Das Beiras with António Lourenço as conductor. Absolutely lovely and summerish. xlove

This is the soundtrack that will be used in postcards, it seems!

About no green screen effects in Lisbon: They are probably being replaced by augmented reality that's been talked about for Italy's and Lithuania's performance, I would guess.

They are installing this structure called Ayrton MagicPanel FX. It can look overwhelming, yet it is not too complex or over the top. This is a different setup, which makes the show more exciting.

I am glad they are experimenting. For the past few years, I was having this feeling that the show was getting too relaxed and predictable with the whole LED stuff. Actually, I read that technical director Ola Melzig has questioned the use of LED for quite some time, so this looks like a creative decision to shake up things. I believe they have more surprises in store for us.

I mean, LEDs are great and all but the truth is last year the huge majority of countries used them in the same way. And that wasn't a good way. All those selfie backgrounds were just annoying really.

I am excited about many things of Eurovision in Portugal, but the soundtrack leaves me cold. It is too heavy, theatrical and says more of a goodbye than a hello. Maybe prone for a "in memoriam" segment of deceased Eurovision stars?

The missing LED though adds to my excitement ....

Honestly, now I am pissed that Portugal is hosting :/ They're worst hosta ever! No LEDs and now no visual... I wish Salvador never won... This Eurovision will be horrible. It's 2018 not 1956...

Yeah, I also don't see the point of getting back in 20th century. Whole that thing :"Music is feeling" is over the top for me. Let the all different things to be, and feelings and fireworks, why not, that is the TV show after all, otherwise, ESC should be held on radio, not TV, we should listening to the songs, and choose the best, without visuals. Some people fall for feelings, some for fireworks, and I think that is all ok, because we are all different.
