ESCToday:

13 foot waterfall as a part of stage design

For the moment, it is just a scale model made of paper and cardboard, but soon it will become real at the Aalborg's Gigantium, the venue for the 2012 Danish Melodi Grand Prix, the country's selection show for Eurovision. Designed by Claus Zier, the DMGP stage will feature a large 13-meter high waterfall.
"It starts at 13 meters and then going to light lines that are built into the stage vertically in a rocket-like shape. And so it goes into a large stage area, which is 15-20 meters deep, where there are lights all over the floor, which then snaps and goes down over the front edge of the floor where the audience sits", explains designer Claus Zier, responsible for the 2012 Danish Melodi Grand Prix stage.

There will be bright lines as the key element of the scene, and it will be gathered from all over Europe. "We run everything to get enough light into scene", says Claus Zier, who adds that there will not be "stage effects we had in past years, when we had bows and stars. This year, we have only a clean graphical sound stage where the singers stand in the middle of the stage and must deliver - completely alone".

Regarding the green room, it has been moved down to the right side of the stage, with the jury sitting in front. "Last year, we had the green room symmetrically in front of the stage", with "comfy sofas and blankets". Now, "they come up on a 20 cm high stage podium, where they will sit".

Re: DENMARK 2012

^ I liked 2001's stage. No idea why it is bashed so often (same with Moscow 2009 but I thought that was due to political reasons). Anyway, they produce their national finals great as well. If just the music...

I haven't been pleased with the actual songs in our NF's for a long time, but I've been absolutely stunned by our stages in recent years. Looking forward to see the final product but on paper it looks amazing. :D

Oh I hated it to be honest and I totally get the deserved bashing. It was "just" a stage more or less, I mean I think with an event like ESC you can and should expect some thought and time spent on decor and scenery, and not just a "simple" stage.

Part of ESC's charm I think is you always expect some cool stage.

None of these names sound familiar to me but I am looking forward to the show. Denmark is a country to always look out for at ESC.

I don't know much about them either.. But that is for me the beauty about DMGP.. 1. most of the danish mainstream artists are terrible imo. 2. I would rather see new names getting exposure 3. Chance for an awesome new act on the scene (for example A Friend In London last year :))

Re: DENMARK 2012

No way, a dubstep artist possibly in ESC? That would be incredible

And also a risk that could pay off for Denmark :p

Can't see Denmark going for that. Apart from DQ they are very conservative in their choices.

I think it depends who is watching it that night.. If there is a fairly young crowd behind the screens it could have a chance but winning I doubt it.. I am personally not into dubstep myself, but it is defiantly something new to the ESC table.. :)

DQ if anything was conservative

That song was the most generic dated schlager ever and it wasn't the first time a drag or tranny entered the ESC stage, but this time a very ugly one

Other than that I agree, Danish choices are generic, dated and safe (but the juries likes them).

Re: DENMARK 2012

Well well, as usual I hardly know any of the artists, but as with Jeffie I think that's part of the charm, so I'm not gonna be bitchy about the quality of the entries until I've heard them. :p

For one thing, I am amazed and proud by the fact that we're having dubstep in our NF this year. I'm a dubstep-fan myself so I throughly hope it won't let me down. I believe it would be a breath of fresh air in ESC and a genre not yet represented in ESC. Yay for dubstep!

If I have to be realistic though, I would probably place my bet on Jesper, the X-factor darling and participant of 2010. He was extremely popular among wheeny teenage-girls and I can't see why he wouldn't be just as popular among them now. He's also a decent singer, so without even having heard any of the other songs I think he's definitely in for a top-3 position. Here are some of his performances in X-factor 2010:
