Re: CZECH REPUBLIC 2019

Some info from the Q&A
Lots of people asked about Tereza Mašková - delegation confirmed that she actually sent her song New Me but they didn't select her
They also mentioned that ouf of the 300 songs, only about 4-5 were in Czech language.
They can't rule out minor revamp for the winning song, but it will definitely not be anything drastic and it will be always up to the performer.

Re: CZECH REPUBLIC 2019

Am I seriously still the only one going crazy about Pam's song? xthink
I understand your expectations were different (i've been there), but don't you appreciate the playful sass and the lyrical "lie to me" part 2?
i thought fan votes would be split between Barbora and Pam xcrazy

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? New Me is better than all eight songs chosen. Did they use any type of drugs before making the choice? SIMPLY DON'T MAKE SENSE THEY DID NOT HAVE CHOSEN TEREZA!

Well... This only makes me more and more convinced that the selection was not made in an unbiased way. Pam Rabbit and Jakub Ondra are friends of Mikolas Josef.
Boris Carloff (composer of three songs in the national final) is also his Mikolas's friend and, besides, gave him the first opportunity to record songs.

Hope I'm wrong, but the Czech delegation doesn't give me the feeling of professionalism :(

EscGeek BTW, Pam's song now has a music video. It's not on YouTube yet, but it was pre-relaesed on news web Novinky.cz.
i thought her dancing in the bathtub was the music video:lol:
they've put a lot of effort into the real one xup

Diego There's no need to be suspicious. Boris Carloff is simply a great music producer and half of the Czech music scene collaborates with him. To name a few: Thom Artway, Kryštof, Wohnout, Skyline, David Koller, Markéta Konvičková, Patricie, Peter Pan Complex, UDG and myriads of alternative singers and bands nobody outside the Czech Republic ever heard of. ;)

Ok let's respect its history and importance in the Czech music scene. But the songs he composed for the national final are horrible. It makes no sense to me to imagine that New Me was less appreciated than Space Sushi and On My Knees.

Ok let's respect its history and importance in the Czech music scene. But the songs he composed for the national final are horrible. It makes no sense to me to imagine that New Me was less appreciated than Space Sushi and On My Knees.

"New Me" is a good song, for a singer who became known from a talent show it's actually almost shockingly good. But it's also very, very similar to "I Stand" (and let's be honest, to plenty of other Eurovision ballads), so I believe that could be the reason why Bors and co. said to themselves "Let's try something else this time." But in the FB livestream he also said something like "Tereza works on other songs" in a way that indicated that she is among the singers they would like to work with in the future. At least that was my impression.

And for Boris Carloff - Well, I wouldn't say that he "composed" the songs. They were composed mostly by the entrants themselves, he just contributed to them in some way during the process of studio production and therefore he's sometimes listed among the authors (Jakub, Tomáš, Jára), sometimes (Pam Rabbit) not. I think that in case of Space Sushi there could have been some more complicated story behind it, since there are 5 people listed as authors. Besides Jakub and Boris there is a rocker and ocassional musical actor Viktor Dyk, Thom Artway's frequent collaborator Alasdair Bouch and someone called Michael Gubler I know absolutely nothing about.

Boris Carloff's own compositions are quite different than anything mentioned above. Interesting, but too alternative for Eurovision, I'm afraid.

Don't really like anything besides "True Colors". And even then, if they do send it, I can see it being a non-qualifier.

I love Boris' own music. Wouldn't mind him for ESC in the future either. :D There are lots of less known singers with potential, most people have never heard of them.
I would love to see Lanugo, Never Sol, Fiordmoss, Calm Season entering some song in Czech language, Vesna with some ethno pop, or Floex to compose a song for someone - he's great and quite known in the gaming industry for his awesome soundtracks for Machinarium or Samorost games.
This year I tried to convince this duo to send a song but they just laughed at me. Hope they can get past their dislike for ESC in the future.

Btw, Pam Rabbit released a music video for her entry:

I've watched several live performances of Barbora... and the girl can sing, thank God xyes

It's interesting because I low-key suspected there might have been some kind of studio arrangements in "True Colors" for her to sound the way she does, but no, that's really what her voice sounds like and she seems to control it well. In addition to that, she's a pianist, that's always a plus. :) And she can do basic beatbox too (see end of the video below) We love a multitalented multitasking queen in the making.

Now I think even the subway challenge will be a walk in the park for her.

Re: CZECH REPUBLIC 2019

That show was a good idea: viewers will be able to get to know the candidates better and - at least - those who won't go to Tel Aviv will still have benefited from the NF in a way.

Not gonna lie, the interview seemed awkward to me. I felt like I was watching a job interview rather than a conversation. Tomáš looked nervous and wasn't really at ease while talking.

I appreciate that all the songs he performed are his: it was a good showcase for his upcoming EP and, honestly, we don't have time for pointless covers.

Musically, I'll pass though. I'm definitely not the target audience of his material. The vocal was a bit shaky during "Don't Know Why", but he managed to relax a bit for the rest of the songs.

Otherwise, he looked in his element during the subway session. :) Too bad we didn't see how many people were gathering.

true colors is the best lana del rey single since ride and i hope it wins this. it's the only good song other than give me a hint lol.

space sushi annoys me but the dude is cute and the video is different so i hate myself for being curious to see it live in some capacity. the other entries are all boring

"True Colors" is a real grower. It's funny because I am very much not a fan of a certain mumbling misery-porn auteur to whom everyone and their mother, myself included, has compared Barbora, but there's something quite warm about the chorus to the song that I really enjoy listening to. Barbora for Esk! #TrueColorsIsTheNewBlack

Re: CZECH REPUBLIC 2019

My reaction to Lake Malawi:

First of all, I enjoyed both today's interview and performances much MORE overall than yesterday when it was Tomáš's turn. It's like day and night.

"Friend Of A Friend" remains one of the most "decent" entries of the lineup and the vocal met my expectations, however I think it musically lacks texture and depth to be really enjoyable to listen to, if that makes any sense. Also the spoken parts are cringe and the lyrics aren't my cup of tea (Albert's explanation about the story is a bit WTH ). I don't see this song having much impact in Tel Aviv. It's cute when it plays, but nothing more.

The rest of their songs were pretty much in the same vein to me. Ironically, I think they chose the right one to submit. But then again, as said previously, I'm not their target audience, so...

Regarding the subway challenge, I don't know if the Czech team read us but they recorded a portion of the crowd this time! There isn't much to say performance-wise, they did a good job, but it's not that surprising given their profile. I'm more curious about what Pam will do. :D
