I don't really know who I would like to see under Czech flag.. "Space sushi" is so cheesy but actually "Toy" was quite too.. I don't know.
"True colors" scream Lana del Rey and it's good and tragic at the same time xD
"FoAF" can be cool on stage...
The rest sound same-ish.

Finally got around to listen to this NF's entries. I didn't have any expectations and I certainly did not expect to top such a bop as "Lie to Me". Here is my top 8:

1. Lake Malawi - Friend Of A Friend
2. Pam Rabbit - Easy to believe
3. Barbora Mochowa - True Colors
4. Andrea Holá - Give Me A Hint
5. Jara Vymer - On My Knees
6, Tomas Bocek - Don't Know Why
7. Hana Barbara - Poslední slova tobě
8. Jakub Ondra - Space Sushi

Overall: pretty good, actually! Totally more creative than Selectia Nationala or Destination Eurovision (at least from what I have listened so far in semi 1).

Pam Rabbit's Offstage and Eurovoxx interview. Her FB busking was good as well. I like her more and more, but I still don't believe she's going to win.

Offstage episode with Jakub Ondra is not on Youtube for some reason, but it was livestreamed on Facebook. He missed the shooting because he was stuck in Switzerland, stopped by some avalanche or something. His busking is here. Interestingly, in both cases he pretty much nailed everything he played, EXCEPT for Space Sushi. However, his winning is still very possible. Do you remember what I was saying about those Instagram influencers? Few days ago, a locally popular prankster called Kazma asked his 394K Instagram followers to vote for Jakub with promise that if Space Sushi wins the ESCZ he personally appears with Jakub on the Eurovision stage, wearing a sushi costume.

Few days ago, a locally popular prankster called Kazma asked his 394K Instagram followers to vote for Jakub with promise that if Space Sushi wins the ESCZ he personally appears with Jakub on the Eurovision stage, wearing a sushi costume.

Pam Rabbit nailed both her busking and Offstage sessions. I am rooting for her now as well.

Yes, see for yourself - Jakub Ondra shared Kazma's instastories on his IG. Last time I checked there were some now removed comments about how awful idea it is and how people will demonstratively vote for someone else instead, so who knows, maybe we are not completely doomed yet. I also noticed that Jan Bors likes pretty much every Instagram post of each entrant... but he didn't like this one.

If the only danger would be that stage presentation of our act will contain a silly fatso embarrassing himself in a sushi costume, I think I could live with that. The worst thing that could happen would be that Space Sushi ends up dead last in our SF, Jan Bors will never invite Jakub Ondra in any other ČT's program anymore and we will simply try again next year with someone else. That's not the end of the world.

But what I really fear is that once Kazma will be in Tel Aviv, he surely won't resist the temptation to prepare some cruel prank targeting either other acts, their fans or even the organizers, potentially causing international scandal and embarrassing us all. But I wonder if not EBU could try to stop him through telling CT? I mean, he could be a danger for the security on stage in case he doesn't "behave".
At the same time, even if they would, then he might try to do a stage invation...way too many during the 2010s has made it to the singer itself.
But if I were someone that liked to do it, I would definitely not do it in Israel...if there is a country in the contest that is on high alert on anything, it's them....

There's nothing groundbreaking in this selection, I enjoy the songs yet none of them seem to be on a much higher level from the other, but I am proud of regardless. There seems to be some sort of enthusiasm in the air after Mikolas' result & I hope it continues even if they get an average result from this year.

My ranking:

1. Tomáš Boček - Don't Know Why... It's not the most memorable song, but the vibe of the song and the chorus make it very enjoyable to me, it puts me in a good mood and makes me move. I approve. This could work somewhat if that feeling and energy transmits well live. I've had it on repeat all day tbh.
2. Barbora Mochowa - True Colours ... As did everybody it seems, Lana Del Rey was the first comment my mind made when I first listened to it. It's kind of hilarious, something's not right when everybody wants to compare something to something. And it kind of takes away from the authenticity of the song, especially as it certainly doesn't reach the heights of Lana. But I love that it's something different, it's not an ambiguous copy of another average modern pop song at least... it just could be better for what it is, even if I do enjoy it for what it is.
3. Andrea Hola - Give Me A Hint ... I really-really love the bridge and that's why it's left a good impression on me. The rest isn't bad though.
4. Hana Barbara - Poslední slova tobě ... I don't get why it has that many dislikes in all honesty, I like the song in general as it stands out and is pretty ambitious, I also loved hearing Czech. But I guess it's for the best that I don't understand the lyrics, because apparently they're terrible lol.
5. Lake Malawi - Friend Of A Friend... There's something enjoyable about it, there's something awkward about it. I'd expect myself to like this, but something fails to connect for me. It's a good effort though, the production of it is quite fresh and slick, and that's only a good thing, but I'm not that enthused about the whole thing. It definitely sounds nearly as modern as Mikolas' entry so it'd be a decent choice, but I'm not sure it's nearly as effective as his entry.
6. Jakub Ondra - Space Sushi ... I absolutely would not like this if it weren't for the sushi thing, the chorus is so unexpected and that's what makes it amazing, I hate it, yet I love it, but mostly hate it.
7. Pam Rabbit - Easy To Believe ... The instrumental of the song is way too annoying and same-y for me & the whole thing just leaves me so very cold.
8. Jara Vymer - On My Knees ... I kind of believe I've never heard a song that's more boring than this.

I'm relieved to see that she is great live. I like True Colors but I think every other song she sang here was even better. If she doesn't win the NF this year, I hope she will try again.

Barbora was so bloody good live that I finally understand why so many people think she would be the best choice for us. The interview part was bit awkward and after seeing ČT's Facebook livestream with her, I know it's not just because of the English. She is really very introverted, shy person. But once she starts to sing, some kind of magic happens, especially with the string quartet. Beautiful. BTW, her busking challenge was postponed on 21st January (the very last day of voting), because she caught a cold and because the string quartet is in Japan right now. They will be back in Monday.

Overall, I am still very happy with this selection. There is only one song which I actively hate (Poslední slova tobě), two that I don't really like but can stand them (Give Me a Hint, On My Knees) and five that I like, each for different reasons. After hearing all of them live, let's say that my heart would pick Lake Malawi and my brain Barbora Mochowa.

The live performance of True Colors is beautiful, and has helped to open my eyes to how wonderful a composition it is. Barbora is very talented. I thought she was the right choice for you to make before, and now even more so. Although there are differences, the very clear Lana influence is still bothering me on a personal level because I just find Lana's stuff now very difficult to listen to (she low-key bugs me). It's weird because one of my favourite singers, Nicole Atkins, often gets compared to Lana. She was going way before Lana and doesn't sound anything at all like her, the only thing you can pin onto both being their penchant for retro. Barbora meanwhile is almost channeling her at times. I find it off-putting. Get past that though and it's a beautiful piece of music. I might just vote for it actually to push you in what I think will be very much the right direction. I want to see you slay again.

For Pam it's thank you come again with a better song cause she herself is great and full of promise. Jara Vymer needs to keep on doing what he's doing as he's so sweet and lovable, with a charming voice. Both are closer to my taste than Barbora, but I don't believe their moment is now. I think Barbora is 100% equipped and ready.
