Re: CZECH REPUBLIC 2019
My real life reaction when I found out Pam's song wasn't
Try and I heard the new one.
Easy To Believe is alright, perhaps a grower even but as my good friend Lil Big HipFlo said, it's kind of
just there, which is a great shame as
Try was fantastic. It would have made for such a fresh and unique entry at Eurovision and pushed some boundaries. Meh, oh well.
I've just listened to all the songs now and I love the way they've been presented here with the self filmed videos. It's cute. I'm unsure what my favourite is though. Nothing here really bothers me (yes, even
Space Sushi), but nothing stands out too hard either.
Jara Vymer - On My Knees I think might just be as my favourite here. My feelings are mixed though. On one hand I like the general vibe overall, and it's very warm. The chorus is letting things down though. There's so much promise here and nice touches, specifically the bridge is lovely, but the chorus is just
one-note and dare I say a bit
bland. I like the Jara though. He seems charming. I wish I was 100% with the song. It's got a nice production and I like some of the musical elements very much + his voice is charming.
Barbora Mochowa - True Colors This song is bordering on parody. It doesn't help that not only does Barbora sound exactly like Lana but also opens the video wearing a flower headpiece. The song is alright and actually I think this is your best shot here to do well at Eurovision. My love affair with the whole Lana thing lasted for literally a month though back in 2012. Now my eyes generally just roll into the back of my head whenever I hear her voice, so having her near identical Czech twin sister at Eurovision wouldn't exactly fill my heart with joy, although the song is totally listenable.
Jakub Ondra - Space Sushi Is silly but could work at Eurovision. I had a weird relationship with
Lie To Me last year and I can imagine myself in a similar situation with Space Sushi. If you send this you'd have to go crazy with it regarding the staging. The quirkier the better.
Hana Barbara - Poslední slova tobě Decent. Has quite a nice chorus and it does build. I particularly like from 2:38 when it bursts into that little instrumental bit. Again, I'm not 100% on board though. I can't quite put my finger on why though.
Lake Malawi - Friend Of A Friend Another decent one. Probably the catchiest song here. I like the production. It's ear wormy. I did the whole funky synth pop thing with Benjamin Ingrosso last year though. Unsure I'm up for it again.
Andrea Holá - Give Me A Hint Ok. Sounds like an early 2000s ballad that a girl group would perform. Doesn't really fill me with much excitement, but it's listenable.
Tomáš Boček - Don´t Know Why Give a guy a guitar and tell him to play an upbeat pop song, and usually I want to die. This is somehow tolerable though to me. The little synth sprinkles are cute. Not crazy for the song though. It's just ok.
Pam Rabbit - Easy To Believe Hugely disappointing considering how cool
Try is.
Easy To Believe sounds like it could be a Katy B album track, which is alright. It's not slaying me though and I was generally really excited when I heard
Try and assumed it would be her entry.
I don't know if I'll vote as I don't have a clear favourite (edging towards
Friend of a Friend or
On My Knees I guess at this moment), and my feelings are basically mixed for everything. I think
True Colors is easily the safest bet to send to Eurovision though.
Friend of a Friend could go either way. The public didn't get behind Sweden last year.
Space Sushi could charm the public if you put 110% into it's presentation and performance. The rest of the songs I think would struggle. Need to give
Easy To Believe another chance later after i've gotten over my disappointment of it not being Try, as I want to make sure my
saltiness right now isn't controlling my feelings.
